Cairn June 2019 “Take It to Go” Review
As always, this month’s box includes a copy of Cairn Scout, which gives the lowdown on the month’s products, subscriber perks, and more. I love that this issue gives a friendly reminder of the “leave no trace” concept. The term is tossed around a lot on the trails, but many people don’t fully live by it. A big one that’s easy to forget is leaving the natural objects that you find! They also give tips on remaining present in your outdoor experience and remind you to share photos of your Cairn gear on social media.
Cairn has a reputation of hookin’ it up with lightweight, reusable food storage. I feel so seen! Gotta stay fueled up on the trail, you know? This set is “absurdly light,” as the Fozzils website says; the entire trio weighs 4 oz. or 113 g.
Here are two of the three pieces. They’re each a slightly different size, loosely translating to plate, bowl, and cup-size, but really you can use any of the three unsnapped as a plate-like surface, and any of them snapped up as a bowl or cup.
Here’s what a snapped corner looks like close-up.
And, here you can see there are faint measurement indications like you would see on a Nalgene. To be honest, my husband and I usually eat our meals out of our camp pots, so I’m not sure how often we will use this set, but it can’t hurt to throw in one of our packs on our next backpacking trip and see how it might come in handy, even just as a clean, dry surface for anything random we might want it for.
Humangear GoToob+ 3-Pack Medium – Estimated Value $25.47
Now these are some well-thought-out travel tubes! They’re soft silicone so you can squeeze out every last drop of whatever you have stored in there. The first thing that comes to mind for me is homemade sunscreen, but obviously, the possibilities are endless. You could even store condiments in them if that’s your thing!
I want to note that on the Humangear site, these tubes are sold individually rather than as a set as they arrived in my Cairn subscription, but 3 of this Medium size add up to $25.47.
I like that the lid completely removes from the tube so you can thoroughly clean it. I also appreciate the twist-off squeeze lid. It’s nice to have the option but not be obligated to squirt out your contents ketchup-style.
And, the best feature is this locking system. It’s pretty intuitive and user-friendly to function.
Kate’s Real Food Bivy Bar, Lemon Coconut – Retail Value $2.99
The fuel I found in this month’s Cairn delivery is this lemon coconut bar from Kate’s Real Food. It’s made up of all sorts of awesome organic ingredients. You can see that it doesn’t have a ton of protein, but it also isn’t crazy sugary, either.
It definitely has a lemony punch, paired with a nice texture and a hint of crunch. I ate a portion of this bar and saved the rest for later. Can’t wait to sink my teeth back into it!
Verdict: I was delighted by each item in this month’s Cairn package! The item I think I’ll get the most use out of is the reusable tubes. I got out of the habit of using tubes like that after multiple messy leaks, but these ones offer some great design, affording me the chance to go all the more green in my adventures and travels.
This box costs $29.95, which includes free shipping, and the contents add up to $43.45. I’m always happy with the deal I get from Cairn!
