Bulu Box June 2019 Review

There isn’t a theme for Bulu Box and there is some personalization involved, so the contents are usually a surprise:

Bulu Box June 2019 - Booklet Front Bulu Box June 2019 - Booklet Back

Because of the variations with this subscription, there’s not a traditional information card listing the items.

Bulu Box June 2019 - Ad 1 Bulu Box June 2019 - Ad 2

There are also usually some coupons and/or product literature with this subscription. They don’t always relate to the items in the box, although sometimes they do.

Bulu Box June 2019 - Growing Roots Organic Coconut and Seed Bites, Pina Colada

Growing Roots Organic Coconut and Seed Bites, Pina Colada (1 oz) – Buy a Variety Pack of 4 oz Bags for $15.27

I’ve had this before from Vegan CutsI liked this, which is more coconut than pineapple in my opinion. There are lots of small seeds that may get stuck in your teeth, though, as I found out when I used a Water Pik right after eating this. The package indicates that every purchase supports urban farms but this brand is also owned by Unilever, so make of that what you will.

Bulu Box June 2019 - Growing Roots Organic Coconut and Seed Bites, Pina Colada

Growing Roots Organic Corn and Seed Bites, Maple Bourbon (1 oz) – Buy a Variety Pack of 4 oz Bags for $15.27

I have become quite a fan of maple flavors in the past few years (I guess my tastes have changed) so I am happy with this one as well. I liked the texture of the puffed/popped corn bits, although a lot of the flax and chia seeds just kept falling off. Maybe eat this one with a spoon to make sure you get all the seeds?

Bulu Box June 2019 - Beautyberry Daily Collagen Shot

Beautyberry Daily Collagen Shot (2.5 fl oz, berry flavor) – Buy 10 for $24.99

Collagen is quite popular these days. This has hydrolyzed collagen, hyaluronic acid, biotin, and folic acid, so it will help improve the elasticity of your skin and condition of any new hair growth (collagen is proven to do those things when taken orally; although biotin is often recommended in such situations as well, the evidence is lacking – but it’s not harmful). It may also help with joint pain due to the hyaluronic acid. This also has antioxidants and so may help slow some signs of aging. This is sweetened with stevia so if you don’t like the taste of stevia in drinks, you may want to mix it with a smoothie where you will get the benefits but the stevia taste will be less noticeable. Anyway, this is not vegetarian due to the presence of collagen and hyaluronic acid.

Bulu Box June 2019 - Wasatch Nectar

Wasatch Nectar (1.5 oz) – Buy 12 Packets for $25

Here is a story. Last year I had bronchitis and one of the nurses at the urgent care place (where I went on a Saturday because I could not stop coughing and had been up all night) said that I could eat some honey to help with the cough in between doses of other medications. So, my husband went to Whole Foods and picked up some fancy Manuka honey. And I dutifully ate a spoonful whenever I felt it would help. It did help. But I learned from that experience that I absolutely do not like just eating honey by itself. I don’t think I could stomach eating an entire 1.5-ounce packet of it. But. Honey has some antibacterial properties and I think if you opened this, took a bit, and reclosed it with a binder clip, you could take a little at a time as needed for a cold and it wouldn’t go bad over the course of a few days. This also has electrolytes which I would imagine would be quite nice when you were sick as well. If you like honey and need the energy for endurance sports, go for it. Otherwise, don’t toss this sample – just save it for when you have a cough.

Bulu Box June 2019 - Barielle Nail Strengthener Cream

Barielle Nail Strengthener Cream (free sample size) – Buy 2, 1 oz jars for $22.99

This brand pops up in Bulu Box every now and then. This is definitely a product I am interested in, and kind of wish I got more than this foil packet to try because if it works (hard to tell after the one use I got out of this packet), I would totally buy it. My nails are not in great shape (I was really stressed out over Mr. Kitty for a while and not getting enough sleep and just generally run down, and I was having lots of related issues, of which I think nail condition is one) and could use all the help they can get. I may buy some anyway. I figure for around $20 it is worth a try in full size.

Bulu Box June 2019 - Instapro Natural Instant Protein Powder

Instapro Natural Instant Protein Powder (0.39 oz) – Buy 10 Packets for $16.99

This is whey protein so I just put it in a smoothie (where it was fine). It’s supposed to not conflict with the flavor of either savory or sweet dishes and could be mixed into anything (soup, yogurt, sauces, etc.). I don’t find that I lack enough protein in my diet to start adding this to pasta sauce, etc., but if you are trying to build muscle or are in a calorie deficit for a diet and want to make sure you’re getting enough, or just want something unflavored because you don’t like commercially flavored products, this could be a great option. (As whey it is vegetarian but not vegan.)

Bulu Box June 2019 - N53 Sleep1

N53 Sleep1 (2 capsules) – Buy 60 Capsules for $29.97

Note: if you want to try this and did not receive it in your box if you click the link in the product name you can get a free sample. This has some magnesium in it and some B vitamins and although the packet says vegetable capsules, there are no vegetarian or vegan Sleep1 products on their website (the linked product has gelatin in the capsules). So I’m not sure if this is new to market or just not good labeling (the back of the sample doesn’t have additional information). At any rate, it includes melatonin which I can’t tolerate (gives me vivid and unsettling dreams, which leave me utterly unrested the next day) so I will pass this one along.

This product also appeared in the Bulu Burn Blend Box this month.

Verdict: This month’s box had 7 samples, so they average about $1.43 each. I’d say this was a pretty typical month for Bulu Box, with the kinds of samples I’ve come to expect. My fingers are crossed that the nail strengthener cream will work for me in full size and if so, that’ll definitely be my favorite discovery of the month. I also have high hopes for the Wasatch Nectar whenever I get my next cold – when you buy a big jar of honey, it often crystallizes before you can use it all, and I’m hoping the individual packets might not have that same problem, plus it seems like less wasteful packaging than honey straws. The snacks were vegetarian (vegan actually) and therefore definitely appreciated as well.

I’d strongly recommend using our MYSUB799 coupon code when you subscribe and choosing either the regular, the weight loss box, or the Burn Blend Box, but not both since there is a lot of product repetition between the three.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today?  No, July would be your first shipment. Also, keep in mind that there are variations in the boxes, so your box might not be exactly like mine in any given month.
