BookCase.Club for Kids May 2019 Review

Looks like we got a new box design this month! I love the bright colors and I think this looks much more like a box for kids now!

Beat Bugs: Rain by Anne Lamb - List Price $6.99 (found here for $6.98)

This book is based on the characters from the Netflix show Beat Bugs. My kids are somewhat familiar with it, but it's not really one they are into. I thought the realistic 3D-style illustrations were fun and the way they made the bullfrog pop out was neat. This is a really simple story of how the characters have fun doing different things after it rains like splashing in puddles or sliding in the mud. It was cute and the kids seemed to like it okay, but it's not one I would personally purchase unless my kids were really into the series!

Extraordinary Jane by Hannah E. Harrison - Retail Value $7.99 (found here for $7.81)

This book had some beautiful illustrations with a fun vintage style that I really enjoyed. It tells the story of Jane, a dog who is very ordinary but who lives amongst some daring and talented friends and family in the circus. While everyone else seems to have a place within the circus, Jane struggles to find out what she can do that makes her special until she realizes that just being herself is enough. It features so many fun characters and is a simple story that is brought to life through the illustrations.

How to Mend a Heart by Sara Gillingham - Retail Value $16.99 (found here for $15.99)

Our last book was very sweet and introduced my kids to a lot of new vocabulary as we talked about what it meant to mend a heart using patches and stitches and a whole spool of thread. We go through the process as a little boy fixes his beloved elephant several times. This story is told in both words and pictures, and you can see the emotions in each illustration. I thought that made this a really unique book in the way it evokes empathy from the reader and it also had some nice metaphors and life lessons for parents to appreciate. This was a sweet, feel-good story that engaged us all!

Verdict: This month our books from BookCase.Club were not quite what we were supposed to get in our subscription (board books for a newborn to 2-year-old boy), but the hardcover book we received was such a sweet one that I didn't mind. Since I have kids of multiple ages, it's not usually an issue for us when they do send us something outside of our set preferences, but just know that it can happen! Even so, the retail value is always great for this sub, especially at the low price point of only $14.99 ($9.99 + $5.00 shipping) for this box. This month was no exception with a total retail value of $31.97 for our books!

To Wrap Up:

Can I still get this box if I sign up today? No, order before the 25th to get the next box. (Boxes ship on or before the 1st of each month.)

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!
