Bomibag May 2019 Review

There was no information card included in the package. You used to be able to find them on the BomiBox site but this month’s bag was not listed.

Bomibag May 2019 - Bag

The bunny bag was a respectable size this month and I managed to not cut its ears off while opening the package.

Bomibag May 2019 - Avocado Mask

The Face Shop Real Nature Avocado Face Mask – Estimated Value $2 (buy 10 for $20)

This is sold out pretty much everywhere I look (and seems to have undergone a packaging change, though whether this is the new or the old package, I really couldn’t say) but I did at least find a price at the linked site. Anyway, this has sort of a creamy serum and it has avocado essence, which is a source of fats (good for moisture) as well as amino acids and vitamins. It was moisturizing and also soothing, I thought, and it didn’t create a problem in terms of putting on makeup later, so it could be used in the morning (that’s when I use masks, anyway).

Bomibag May 2019 - Tea Tree Mask

Nature Republic Real Nature Mask Sheet Tea Tree – Retail Value $2.50 (found here for $1.50)

This one also seems to have undergone a packaging change. At any rate, this has more of a clear serum and is supposed to be made of eco-friendly material. It has tea tree oil, of course, which can be good for healing and soothing breakouts (though
you’d need to use it more than once to see an effect). This also has grapefruit extract which will be a source of vitamin C and other antioxidants, and several moisturizing ingredients like aloe. I’d consider keeping a couple of these around for bad skin days, for sure. (Tea tree oil in skincare works well for me.)

Bomibag May 2019 - Cleanser

Klavuu Pure Pearlisation Revitalizing Facial Cleansing Foam (30 mL) – Estimated Value $6.92 (buy 130 mL for $30)

I like trying foaming cleansers. I typically use a foaming cleanser for the second step in my double cleansing routine, and this was very good in that context (it did not dry out my skin, also). For what it’s worth, this was pretty good as a morning cleanser, all on its own, as well. This has pearl extract, which is supposed to be brightening and which appears in Asian beauty products fairly often, but of course, pearl itself is too big to pass through the skin barrier, so whether this is a legitimate claim depends a lot on how the extract is produced. At any rate, it is an effective cleanser.

Bomibag May 2019 - Shampoo

Pyunkang Yul Shampoo (30 mL) – Estimated Value $1.53 (buy 280 mL for $14.30)

The product description here says: “The nourishing shampoo helps you nurture smooth and silky hair. It provides so rich and healthy nutrition as to make you unnecessary to use conditioner.” Well. It has been overcast and humid these past few days and no, I can definitely not skip the conditioner. But, this lathers well and I kind of like the smell (a bit musky and very clean). This came with a plastic adapter in the neck of the bottle that only lets out a drop at a time but I was able to pry that out with my fingernails so I could just pour an appropriate amount of shampoo into my palm.

Bomibag May 2019 - Hand Cream

Etude House Missing U Hand Cream Pink Dolphin Story – Retail Value $5.90

This container is allegedly shaped like a dolphin. OK then. But seriously, cute packaging is one thing I expect from K-beauty products. Part of the proceeds from sales of this product goes towards saving baby harp seals. I needed a new hand cream for next to my bed and this works well. It is lightweight and probably wouldn’t work for extremely cold or dry weather, but it is hot and humid here and I can get by with a milder hand cream and this one works without irritating my skin. It is free of ethanol, dyes, sulfates, and parabens, too.

Bomibag May 2019 - Patches

Pyunkang Yul Acne Spot Patch Super Thin (15 count) – Retail Value $4.90

This product was the only real miss for me this month. I don’t find that these patches work well for me. I am not going to wear them during the day, like at work or during exercise, and at night, they kind of interfere with using other skincare products, because unless your skin is free of oils, they don’t stick (I’ve ended up with a few in my hair, on my pillow, etc. in the past). This one is supposed to be super thin and to have better adhesive but I didn’t actually have a need for it in the few days after I received this package so I can’t tell you how it works.

Verdict: I calculated a total value of $23.75 for the May Bomibag. That is not the highest value I’ve ever received for this subscription, but it is close to $4 over the $19.99 cost of the subscription. (K-beauty prices have to be taken with a grain of salt. For example, you can order them from Korea for little money but then there is a large shipping charge, a minimum order, or a very long wait to receive them. Or you can pay a bit more to order from a US-based source. Etc.) Most of the items this month worked pretty well for me and I thought there was a good variety (I do tend to expect two masks with this subscription, but all the other item types were different and included skincare, hair care, and bath/body items).

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, your first shipment would probably be June’s.

Value Breakdown: At $19.99 for this subscription, you’re paying about the following per item:

  • Avocado mask $1.68
  • Tea tree mask $2.10
  • Cleanser $5.82
  • Shampoo $1.29
  • Hand cream $4.97
  • Acne patches $4.12

I signed up for Bomibox recently, the larger subscription, and so far I’ve been really impressed with the products we’ve been receiving. Out of all the K-beauty boxes I’ve seen reviewed here on MSA, I think it’s one of the better ones.
