Bless Box April 2019 Review

Bless Box April 2019 - Info 1 Bless Box April 2019 - Info 2

The full magazine that used to come with this box is now 100% online, but we did receive an info sheet detailing the products included.

Bless Box April 2019 - Earthen Skincare Vegan Facial Cleanser 1 Bless Box April 2019 - Earthen Skincare Vegan Facial Cleanser 2

Earthen Skincare Vegan Facial Cleanser, 3 oz – Retail Value $35

This cleanser is vegan and cruelty-free, and it is safe for all skin types. Considering the high price, I wasn’t that impressed with the ingredients list, and this didn’t blow me away. Did it do the job? Yeah. Did it earn its price tag? No way.

Bless Box April 2019 - Nelson J. Beverly Hills Styling Surf Spray

Nelson J. Beverly Hills Styling Surf Spray, 1 oz – Retail Value $8

I don’t use salt sprays on my naturally curly hair, but I know people with more fine hair who get great results by using this on damp hair before putting their hair in braids and going to sleep. I will say I am not impressed that the description says this has “no parabens, alcohol, or synthetic color,” because benzyl alcohol is on the ingredients list.

Bless Box April 2019 - The Vintage Cosmetics Company Comforting Gel Bead Face Mask 1 Bless Box April 2019 - The Vintage Cosmetics Company Comforting Gel Bead Face Mask 2 Bless Box April 2019 - The Vintage Cosmetics Company Comforting Gel Bead Face Mask 3

The Vintage Cosmetics Company Comforting Gel Bead Face Mask – Retail Value $12

This is my favorite product in the box. I look like a pink Michael Myers when I wear it, but wow does it feel good! The gel beads inside can retain cold or heat, so you can pop it in the microwave or leave it in the fridge. This feels amazing if you have a headache or carry any tension in your face, and when used cold it is soothing on angry pimples.

Bless Box April 2019 - Deco Miami Sugar + Spice Nail Art Stickers

Deco Miami Sugar + Spice Nail Art Stickers – Retail Value $8

I like nail art stickers for the ease of having cute nail art, and some of the ones out there look great! These I wasn't a fan of, though. They were hard to peel off even though I was using tweezers, and as a whole, I just don't think they looked that fabulous. You can see them below.

Bless Box April 2019 - Salon Perfect Nail Lacquer in Crisp Rose

Salon Perfect Nail Lacquer in Crisp Rose, Full-Size! Listed Value $3.98

This nail polish brand is only available at Walmart, and it isn’t my favorite. The brush is short and thin which allows you more control when painting close to your cuticle, but the polish itself is a bit thick and harder to work with than the nail polish from brands that cost just a few dollars more.

Bless Box April 2019 - Nail Swatch

Here it is swatched with the Deco Miami nail art stickers.

Bless Box April 2019 - Daeng Gi Meo Ri Moisture Mask 1 Bless Box April 2019 - Daeng Gi Meo Ri Moisture Mask 2

Daeng Gi Meo Ri Moisture Mask – Listed Value $10

I couldn’t find this product online, and the website listed on the info sheet wasn’t valid. This is a hair mask inside of a cap that you put on after shampooing your hair before chilling out for ten minutes. The cap actually ripped as I tried to apply it, and while my hair was more nourished after washing it out, I don’t think the hassle of this mask is justified by the high cost of the single use.

Meaningful Beauty Revive & Brighten Eye Masque, 1 pair – Estimated Value $1.73 (buy a jar of 30 pairs for $52)

Meaningful Beauty is a beauty brand created by model Cindy Crawford. I thought these eye patches were pleasant to wear. They were cooling and soothing, and I thought they had a good ingredients list for the delicate skin around my eyes.

Bless Box April 2019 - Puracy Organic Hand & Body Lotion

Puracy Organic Hand & Body Lotion, 4 oz – Retail Value $4.99

This unscented lotion is made with aloe vera, sunflower oil, shea butter, and jojoba oil to nourish your skin. I liked the moisture this provided, and I would recommend checking it out if you are sensitive to fragranced body lotions.

Bless Box April 2019 - L.O.V. Cosmetics Fatal Muse Matte Liquid Lipstick 1 Bless Box April 2019 - L.O.V. Cosmetics Fatal Muse Matte Liquid Lipstick 2

L.O.V. Cosmetics Fatal Muse Matte Liquid Lipstick, Full-Size! Listed Value $10

I was prepared to love this lipstick- it is a great shade for my skin tone, and it was super comfortable to wear. Unfortunately, that comfort also means this lipstick didn’t have much staying power, and after a few hours it was literally all over my face. You can see me wearing it below.

Bless Box April 2019 - Go Macro Cherries + Berries MacroBar

Go Macro Cherries + Berries MacroBar – Listed Value $2.89 (buy a box of 12 for $34.95)

I like keeping bars like these in my purse to squash any potential hunger cravings that hit me when I am on the go. These bars are organic, vegan, and gluten-free, and they have 3 grams of dietary fiber and 4 grams of protein in one 200 calorie bar. This has a higher sugar count than what I normally eat, although the sugars are natural from the fruits and not added in. I also prefer to have a little more protein in my snacks to keep me fuller longer.

Bless Box April 2019 - Bambu Ivory Bambu Toothbrush

Bambu Brush, Ivory Bamboo Toothbrush – Buy a pack of 4 for $22, found here for $14

Steripod Classic Single Toothbrush Protector – Retail Value $3.99

Both of these came in the December Bless Box, At first, I thought they were a bonus that came together as a set, but the info sheet states I should have received a skin surprise item with a value of $8 and a life surprise item with a value of $15. My "extra surprises" definitely don't meet that promised value, which is a bummer. This toothbrush is made with sustainably-harvested bamboo that makes the handle biodegradable, and the bristles are soft and safe for those with sensitive gums. I liked using the one from the December box, so I will throw that one out and use this one now. The clip-on toothbrush protector is handy--I always hate traveling and throwing my toothbrush in with my other toiletries. This cover keeps things sanitary, and it fits most standard and electric toothbrushes.

Bless Box April 2019 - Maybelline Lash Sensational Washable Mascara in Blackest Black 1 Bless Box April 2019 - Maybelline Lash Sensational Washable Mascara in Blackest Black 2

Maybelline Lash Sensational Washable Mascara in Blackest Black, Full-Size! Retail Value $9.99

This also came in the December bonus box, and this was the “fave” extra surprise. This mascara isn’t my favorite, but it isn’t bad. It lengthens my lashes, however, the big brush takes some work to avoid clumping.

Bless Box April 2019 - Selfie

Here I am wearing the mascara and the L.O.V Lipstick.

The Verdict: Sometimes this box is a hit, and sometimes this box feels like a mish-mash of products that don’t really make sense. Unfortunately, this month I think it was the latter. I do not feel like I received a thoughtfully curated box, and the “surprise” items were a disappointment. Value-wise, I calculated a total value of $96.59, which is one of the lower values I have seen from this box and doesn’t meet the promised value of $125 in every box. That value is met if we add in the listed values of the surprise extras, but 1) then it’s not an extra and 2) the retail values are lower than the listed values, so the actual value is still under $125.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, but subscribe by the 17th to receive that month's box. From Bless Box:

Bless Box ships once per month, usually between the 19th and 22nd. If you subscribed on or before the 17th, you will receive a box that month. If you subscribed after the 17th, your first box will ship the following month unless otherwise stated.

Value Breakdown: This box costs $37.49 ($29.99 + $7.50 shipping) and I calculated a total value of $96.59 for everything except the extras, which means that you’re paying approximately the following per item:

  • Earthen Cleanser: $13.58
  • Nelson J. Beverly Hills: $3.11
  • The Vintage Cosmetics Company: $4.66
  • Deco Miami: $3.11
  • Salon Perfect: $1.55
  • Daeng Gi Meo Ri: $3.88
  • Meaningful Beauty: $0.67
  • Puracy: $1.94
  • L.O.V. Cosmetics: $3.88
  • Go Macro: $1.12

I am a staunch believer that pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza and when I’m not working as a family law attorney I enjoy hiking the Louisiana trails (alligator sightings are a favorite!) or relaxing with Duchess, my cat. I’m a sucker for anything labeled a mystery box and I’ve never met a bath bomb I didn’t like.

Thank you for the thoughtful, detailed review. I agree about it not being the best assortment.

For $37 you could go to the drugstore/ walmart and pick out a few items that you would actually use.

I was so excited about this box when it first came out, I felt like it had a lot of promise and I received some really great, unique products that are still among some of my favorites and I continue to repurchase. But overall I agree with most of the other comments, there are too many drugstore based items, not enough curation and certainly not the value for what the cost is. I cancelled over a year ago now and I still check the reviews to see if there is anything I’m missing out on but I never feel that regret that I didn’t get the box. I am honestly surprised they are still even in business.

I actually really enjoyed receiving this box. I guess I am easy to please? Lol but I only paid $29.99 and free shipping with a promo code for being my first box.

I reached out to customer service regarding the missing surprise skincare item and they have shipped it to me (hasn’t arrived yet, so we will see).

Btw, You look beautiful like Snow White in that picture!

So happy I canceled. Just felt like she always sends too many drugstore brands and there are plenty of items that are useful but nothing exciting.

I bought a couple boxes when I could choose which one I got. They were great and so was customer service. Then there was a glitch (their fault) and I received a repeat box when I specifically ordered February box and customer service basically said, too bad, we don’t refund. They lost me not only as a customer but, as an advocate for the box as well. The couple mystery boxes I received were underwhelming and over valued for a bunch of drugstore brand left overs. Never again.

This box is super underwhelming. Every once in awhile I think Bless Box has found its legs, but then I see a box like this and remind myself to steer clear. Also, those nail stickers were in the Vegan Cuts box Regan reviewed a few days ago.
