June 2019 Birchbox Curated Box Review #3

This month came with a little folded card explaining the Birchbox philosophy of 'you time'.

Each box comes with a card detailing the items included and some tips on how to use them.

Finally, included is a card promoting their loyalty program.

Let's dive into our items!

Smith & Cult Nailed Lacquer in 'Psycho Candy', 0.5 fl oz - FULL SIZE! Retail Value $18.00

I received the same polish last month in a very different grey shade called 'Doe My Deer'. I also received a Smith & Cult lip gloss from the Birchbox Limited Edition 'Forever Summer' box which I was equally obsessed with. I think I must just really like this brand in general because this polish is also a huge hit! It is a borderline neon poppy red with exceptionally great coverage. It is a cream finish with a ton of shine. I used two coats below, though I probably could have gotten away with one if I really wanted to. There is something very "classic red" about this color but the hint of orange makes it feel like a modern, fresh coral. LOVE.

YAAAAAS.

Jouer Cosmetics High Pigment Lip Gloss in 'Serrano', 6 g - FULL SIZE! Retail Value $17.00

If the nail polish above had a twin that was a lipgloss, this perky poppy red would be it! I can't get enough orangy-leaning reds and I love the buildable formula of this gloss. One swipe is a sheer flush of color, add a little more and you have a pretty bold pair of lips happening. The gloss has a light vanilla scent and the finish is super glossy, and not at all sticky. Adding this to my summer staple list!

Glossy, poppy perfection.

butter LONDON ShadowClutch Wardrobe Duo in 'Lush Tropics', 2.4 g – FULL SIZE! Retail Value $15.00 (this shade duo is currently sold out!)

I feel like the curators of this box are color addicts, and I am here for it! This duo of eyeshadows is very summery and speaks to the tropical vibes that define this season. 'Turquoise' is a teal shade that's beautifully pigmented and has a soft metallic flash. 'Opal' feels golden, but is extra interesting because it has a subtle pink shimmer that gives it a beautiful dimension. Both are smooth as, well, butter, and blend beautifully. I think the packaging is very cute.

Makeup Eraser Samples - Buy a full-size Makeup Eraser here for $20.00

I already have a full size of this product, and it is actually so effective at removing all my makeup each day and also a great alternative to buying makeup remover wipes, especially if you are looking for a way to cut down on waste/plastic. I received two square samples in this month's box, which will probably be really great to save for traveling. All you need for these little wipes is water! I have washed my full size in the washing machine multiple times and it still looks great and works beautifully.

Air Repair Complexion-Boosting Moisturizer, 0.24 fl oz - Estimated Value $2.76 (Buy a full-size 2 oz for $23.00)

This is another familiar product that I am more than happy to have another sample of! This is a great all-around basic moisturizer to keep close at hand in your purse or office desk if your skin if feeling dry, but I love to use it under my makeup in the morning. It absorbs quickly and leaves no gross residue. It also smells so fresh!

OUAI Wave Spray, 1 fl oz - Estimated Value $5.20 (Buy a full size 5 oz for $26.00)

If you read my reviews at all, you probably know I am a perfume/scent addict. I love a well-fragranced product! This wave spray has a delicate musk scent that smells just a little sexy! It is subtle enough to enhance other perfumes I wear which is an added bonus to a very effective formula. I have coarse wavy hair that is really thick. I really like my natural hair texture and sprays like this really enhance it for me. A few spritzes of this on damp or dry hair, and a few scrunches later, I have beachy waves with no crunch. Also worth mentioning is that this formula is salt-free, a rarity in most beach wave products. If you always wanted beachy waves but avoid salty products because of buildup, dryness, or color longevity concerns, this might be an HG product for you!

Verdict: This was my favorite Birchbox I have received, EVER. And I was subscribed back in 2013! There were 3 full-size items, each of which I am in love with, along with a great cream sample and an incredible wave spray. I feel the summer vibes all over this box. My value this month was also substantial: this $15 box was worth around $57.96, even without the makeup eraser samples that I couldn't figure out a good way to estimate value for. I also think the box design this month was so adorable—peep that little tassel opener! This box was pure WIN for me.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

I hope Birchbox continues in this direction! After the price increase w/ no obvious changes in the box, this was refreshing!

Thanks, Meghan! I love your reviews and always enjoy all the pictures you include. I bought this box too! And, fully agree best box ever. And, I’ve been subscribed to BB since ‘13 too. I’m a huge fan of Smith & Cult. So, would take a box with one of their nail polishes or lipglosses anytime.

Huge shout out to Birchbox CS. I signed in on the second day to choose this box, only to find out it was sold out. I was SO bummed, esp as my Birchbox experience has been pretty blah until now and this was a box I knew I would love. I mean, my hair is teal and purple, so this was just screaming my name! I sent an email off to CS asking if there was any way to get the nail polish and the eyeshadow. Imagine my surprise, and excitement, when they said I’d be getting the box. And I was NOT disappointed. Loved all of it.

Awesome to hear you got this awesome box! For a color lover, it was everything!

Megan (or MSA readers), I have a question on Makeup Eraser. When you wash it in the washer with other clothing, does it transfer any of the makeup to clothing? Do you pre-wash by hand or anything like that before tossing it in the washer? Thinking of investing in one, but would like to know how people clean them. Thank you!

Stephanie, Megan and Lana,
Thank you for all for the responses!!

Lana

I wash them with my colors in cold and it’s never been an issue. I might be the only person who doesn’t think that it’s a good product though, I would not recommend.

Megan K.

I just toss mine into the wash with everything else. I don’t wear heavy makeup and I have never had a problem with it landing on other items. I always wash with cold water, though I am not sure that would really have anything to do with it. 🙂

Stephanie

I have like 16 of them. I just throw them in the wash with my regular clothes (washer – delicate cycle; dryer – very low heat). I bought a bunch of them when Nordstrom put them on clearance (it was a set of 2 for $17!!). I use 1 per day and then I wash them all at the end of the week. I’ve been doing this for 3 months now and it is working well. I absolutely love the make-up erasers–they take off all of my make-up! I didn’t realize it until I switched but the oil based make-up removers I was previously using were causing some small breakouts. After I switched, my face got clearer!

I am sad that I cancelled Birchbox. The price increase and serious product overload forced that decision. I would definitely have selected this box as well. That nail polish is the bomb. The Doe My Dear stayed on my toes for nearly 10 days with no chipping.

This was my pick and it is a fantastic box. Birchbox has me so spoiled on the Smith and Cult polishes lately, I don’t want to use anything else. Hoping to see another shade of in a curated box again this month!

Smith & Cult polish is always a welcome addition to my box. I also tried one of their lip glosses in the Forever Summer LE Birchbox and it is also fab.

The nail polish is the bomb! Love that stuff!!

I just received this box yesterday, and I actually liked it way more than I thought I would! I really just got it for the Smith & Cult polish since my mom loves their polishes, and I thought this would be a nice addition to her collection, and I was anticipating giving most of it away, but I ended up really liking the lip gloss, and I’ve tried that Ouai spray before and really liked it as a hair fragrance since it really has no effect on my hair, and I’ll always take a new moisturizer. In addition to the polish, I just gifted the makeup erasers (that was nice there were two in there!), and the eyeshadow. I really hope Birchbox continues to include S&C polishes in their boxes! It’s a nice way to add to a collection for only a buck and change! 😀

I got the same box and l too love the nailcolor! Great reviews Megan

Thanks, Nancy! The nail polish couldn’t be more summery. And I loved it with my turquoise ring. Something about that teal and red combo is delicious.

Reply ButtonReply

Luna

I agree about that red & turquoise combo. I still have quite a few pieces of jewelry my mom gave me (including a baby bracelet that I wore that is sooooo cute), that had both blue & red turquoise stones in them. I was even going to comment how much I loved your ring too! 🙂

Nina

I’m a scent addict too! I’m obsessed with the smell of the Youth Revolution Amore Pacific skincare.. if they had a body lotion/wash or perfume line I’d be in heaven!! I’ve yet to find a dupe for it! 😩 Also, I got this box and was pretty happy with the contents. I really like the s&c nail polishes

Reply ButtonReply

Megan K.

I am obsessed with that stuff Nina! If only I had the budget to afford more than a sample…

Reply ButtonReply

Nina

Haha me too! I’ve been stockpiling as much as I can! I bought two of the Amore Pacific Glossybox boxes for 5.00 off each, got two Allure boxes last month for the Youth Revolution samples and have used the promo code BRIGHTTRIO three times on Sephora site with 35.00 purchase to get a trio of AP samples. If I wasn’t such a beauty box fanatic I could probably afford the full size 😂
