Zodiac Quarterly Spring 2019 “Leo” Review

This is the first Zodiac Quarterly box so I am pretty excited to dive in. Included was a helpful booklet that listed each of our items included this month along with images.

Arabella Crystals 'Leo' Candle, 4 oz - Retail Value $13.99 (Etsy seller is currently away on a break)

This 'Leo' themed candle is scented with a really heady blend of pure cinnamon and vanilla. It also has notes of nutmeg, cream, and cloves. I enjoy these sort of scents and find that many Leo products follow these sort of vibes. I wish I could for once have some sort of magical firey leather scent associated with a Leo product. I love a wood wick candle so I was especially excited at the fun cracking sounds that came from this as it burned. Made of 100% soy wax, expect enough fragrance to fill a medium sized room and a nice, clean, even burn.

Madame Zoya 'Leo' Wall Hanging - Retail Value $30.95

This rather large (14 x 11 inches) 100% cotton printed canvas is pretty heavy duty thanks fo the wooden frame. Featuring an allover Leo inspired print, you can leave it as is or I imagine you could color it in with paints or markers. I don't really love items like this because they feel like something I might have had in my dorm room rather than my current home, but I can see how it would easily work in this box.

Skeem Design 'Full Moon' Matches - Retail Value $12.00

This is an odd quirk, but I absolutely LOVE fancy matches. There is something so satisfying about lighting a special candle with an actual match rather than a lighter. These are so moody and lovely, solid black and in a gorgeous full moon silkscreened glass bottle. The striker is built in on the side and the 40 matches stay safe and dry thanks to a little cork topper. Love.

Zodica Perfumery 'Leo' Perfume, 8 ml - Retail Value $40.00

Here we go. This and the matches are exactly the sort of high-end Zodiac type item I expect to see in a more expensive subscription. You might recognize this type of twist and spray bottle because it is almost identical to Scentbird's. The packaging is beautifully branded and feels incredibly luxe, coming with a ton of additional info on the perfume itself and all the other scents offered under different signs. I was fully expecting this to be another sort of typical Leo spice + vanilla sort of scent but I was so pleasantly surprised to find a perfume composed with notes of citrus, gardenia and jasmine flowers, and sweet honeysuckle. Lest I make this scent sound far too sweet, the base notes are musky, with a healthy dose of patchouli. It smells like blinding summer sun, wet petals, and heavy air. I love it. Also worth noting is that the bag itself has a cute little Leo charm that is totally something I would save to wear on a chain around my neck. I was surprised to also find this brand sold at Macy's, as well as on Etsy.

Madame Zoya 'Leo' Throw Pillow - Retail Value $24.95

This pretty sizable (16 x 16 inches) 100% polyester throw pillow came complete with an insert, which you wouldn't think was worth mentioning except I think I have always gotten just cases in other boxes.  it has the Leo star sign on one side and the easily recognizable symbol on the other. The color is a very pretty pale coral. Again, I don't generally decorate with my sign in my house, but this pillow is really well done and there s something minimalistic about it that I do enjoy.

Zodiac Quarterly Leo Spring May 2019 review carnelian stone in hand

Carnelian Stone

Along with our other Leo inspired goodies comes a stone or crystal hand selected for its association with your zodiac sign. Mine was a beautiful carnelian stone. As far as stones in subscription boxes go, this one was on the larger end! It is a really interesting specimen because of the weird banding inside the center. Because of this, it would be classified as both a carnelian and an agate, which is pretty cool. Carnelian is a bold stone, said to help you speak your truth and boost confidence and creativity. The included card has a ton of info on the stone which is great for learning more.

Zodiac Quarterly Leo Spring May 2019 review bracelet on Zodiac Quarterly Leo Spring May 2019 review under bracelet

Canvas Jewelry Gemstone Bracelet - Retail Value $20.00

Finally, we received a rather pretty bangle bracelet with a long focal piece of smokey grey glass. It is a perfect piece for wearing alone or layering and I found that it fit well with my watch. I like the soft matte goldtone finish and the clever loop and peg closure keep it secure on your wrist.

The Verdict: A brand new box is always exciting, especially when the subject matter is something you are really interested in. There were some real winners for me in this Zodiac Quarterly and I love that smaller and independent brands/sellers were included. Let's start with the gorgeous perfume! The scent was awesome and I loved the travel-friendly spritzer bottle. I also really loved the candle and large carnelian stone. The matches were another highlight, though I realize not everyone is totally in love with fancy matches. The bangle bracelet was another completely wearable addition. All of these items felt higher end, which felt good inside a rather expensive box. The misses for me were absolutely the canvas and the jury is still out on the pillow. I feel like the other items felt so elevated and hand-picked that these last two didn't match the rest somehow.

Value-wise, we did ok. This box costs $100 and the overall value of the items (minus the carnelian stone) is $141.89. The booklet suggests the stone has a value of between $20-40 so you could be looking at an overall value of between $161.89-$181.89  when you include the stone. That is by no means a bad deal at all, but generally, when the box is on the more expensive side I tend to expect really high values. I think this box has a solid beginning and could really develop into something awesome, especially if they focus on those items that feel really, really special.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

I am actually looking forward to this quarterly box (monthly is too overwhelming) I would have been over the moon to receive ALL of these items in Taurus form of course. I think it is well thought out and perfect for true zodiac lovers who have been searching for this type of subscription. I would love to see a loyalty program where the price drops for those that purchase consistently. This is a wonderful idea and I can’t wait to receive my first box!!!

I love the concept of this box, but the price is too high. Hopefully, they’ll either up the value or lower the price. (even offer MSA readers a discount for the life of their sub, or something)

Those of us who have been getting subs for a long time – it takes a lot to really please us. lol. We HAVE to have that value, for the money, or its just not worth the commitment.

Wonderful review as usual Megan! Your description of the perfume made me want to look for and purchase it immediately despite the fact I’m a Cancer. I actually feel similar about the fancy matches.
I agree that sending the actual pillow is worth noting because it is highly unusual. I actually find that impressive. I find it frustrating to receive just the cover. Personally I don’t have a bunch of pillows lying around waiting for covers and it’s not something I want to deal with shopping for. But I do understand it not necessarily being the right aesthetic for everyone. Overall I am impressed but not enough to pay $100. I think maybe $75, definitely $50. But they’ll have to really bring it for most people to risk $100 on it. Especially considering that if you’re looking at spoilers first, you’d have to spend some time trying to find your own sign in case the items are very different than the ones Leos received. That can be difficult with boxes as new as this one. I’ll definitely keep an eye on this one though.

Thank you Dani! <3 The perfume really surprised me! I wear it quite often but now I am getting paranoid about running out so soon. Glad to hear there is another fancy match lover on here.

It’s a nice box, I’m a Leo! But this looks like a 40 dollar box at most to me. Or what I would pay for it anyway. I feel like this is missing a big ticket item. Especially for 100? It should blow me away.

This was the first box so I am looking forward to seeing it grow into something really good! I agree on the hero item though.

Be careful of this one. I paid for a 3 box subscription back in October and have yet to see one.

That is terrible. Have you contacted them yet? I am curious if they were concerned about your complaint or defensive and evasive. Good Luck! I hope you get you boxes soon or a refund or by now, both. I will wait to hear more about their customer service before subscribing. Thanks for the warning.

Allison is talking about a different box (My Zodiac Box) that she confused with this one. This one is brand new and just came out. Let’s not trash a new company that hasn’t done anything wrong, ladies!

That is terrible. Have you contacted them? I’m curious if they listened to your legitimate complaint or were evasive or defensive. Good luck and thanks for the comment.

Hi Allison! We launched our website in March of this year—this April box is our very first box. 🙂 I’m wondering if you have us confused with another box? Please let us know if you have any questions! xoxo, Mallory with Zodiac Quarterly

If they include the moon clutch or coasters from their photo gallery in the next box, I’d subscribe in a heartbeat!

This box looks awesome! So expensive though! Seems like it has good quality items but It’s too new for me to drop $100 on it. No way to know if their customer service is good or if the box will arrive on time or at all. Will keep an eye out for reviews to decide..

Customer service was good, until I got billed incorrectly and now have no info on shipping. Left several emails and messages on different platforms and haven’t heard anything. Not a good way to start a new subscription! I should have waited to see as well. So I retract my first impression.

Nevermind. I thought this was the monthly My Zodiac box.

Actually it’s been around for awhile. Msa just hasn’t reviewed very many boxes.
