We Craft Box May 2019 Review

This pamphlet included some information on sharing your creations on social media for a chance to win a free box and it also has directions for our final scene set up.

On the reverse side of the instructions, there is always a story, this one is about the Great Space Race which my kids were excited about. I think this is always a nice way to get some added engagement with these projects!

The directions are detailed and include colored pictures that we were able to use for reference as we worked.

Our first project was to make our rocket ships and we received these two fun plastic aliens, one of which is Astro, from our space race story.

The first step was to fold up the top of our rockets which was very easy thanks to the creases that were already in place. I wrapped it around and then we secured it with one of the foam space stickers they provided.

Magic Nuudles - Buy a bag of 300 for $9.99 (found here for $8.69)

Next, we added the smaller colored Nuudle pieces to the inside of these tubes to form the body of our rocket. We had to dampen them with water and then they would stick to the inside of our tubes. Then we slid our cone on top and the moisture helped it stick.

Next, we put together the two pieces that were provided for our base. We simply slid them together using the cutouts. We used the small black stickers they provided to hold them together.

Then we simply slid our rocket base on top of it and used a few more stickers to secure that and it was ready for decorating.

CH Hanson White China Marker - Retail Value $6.69

In addition to the stickers, they also included this white china marker for us to use for decorating our rocket ships.

The kids loved decorating and playing with their rockets and little aliens!

PaperMate Black Pen - Buy 60 for $6.60

The next project was to make spaceship photo frames using these foam materials, stickers and a pen that they provided. I printed out some pictures of the kids to use, but they also said you could draw your own, or cut out pictures from a magazine.

It was really tricky getting the sizing right! I used the inside of the yellow ring to draw my circle, but I cut my son's photo too small so I had to improvise - hence the awful circle. I had to cut the photos just large enough so that they would fit inside the yellow ring, but then have a little bit of overlap to stick the photos to the actual space ship. Much harder than it looks, but they still turned out okay.

The kids added the extra foam pieces to their space ships along with some stickers and drawings. They turned out pretty cute and definitely look very homemade!

Next, we were making our shooting stars. They included a blue star and a pink star, two pipettes and two colorful straws for us to use.

I cut off the tops of the pipettes and then used the silver stickers to stick them to the reverse side of our stars.

They provided this fun shiny red tinsel for us to use as streamers for our star. I bunched up a few pieces and secured them using the leftover silver stickers.

Next, we inserted our straws into the pipette end and while they look like cute little wands, they are actually even better because they become actual shooting stars when you blow into them.

The kids had so much fun with these! The streamers were great because they gave it a nice effect as the stars fell to the ground.

Model Magic 1 oz Packs (2) - Buy 6 packs for $10.28

For our next project, they provided two packs of Model Magic in white and red and two ping pong balls.

We mixed our colors together and rolled them out flat before wrapping them around the ping pong balls.

Then we used a little bit of extra clay to add some streamers to the end and hold them in place.

They provided a cup of beautiful blue sparkles for this next part! I poured them into the box to spread them out.

Then we rolled our balls around in the "space dust" and coated them as much as we could before setting them aside so that they could harden up a bit.

Now it was time to make some cards using this fun gold acrylic paint spray and the two black pieces or paper.

My two-year-old volunteered first so I had him set his hand down and then sprayed around it to get his handprint. Next thing I knew, my one-year-old had his hand spread out so I placed it down and he let me spray his, too. (He was seriously so still!) This paint wiped off easily once we were done.

It took some convincing for my four-year-old (she doesn't like to get messy), but once we decided these would make nice cards for Daddy's upcoming birthday, she finally let me spray her hand too! The gold paint looked so great and sparkly on the black background!

I also used the spray paint to add some color to this sheet for our scene background.

We let the paint dry and then my daughter finished decorating our background for us with the leftover stickers and Nuudles.

Here are all of our finished projects together. We are probably going to write something like "love you to the moon and back" on our handprint cards as they suggested, but we are waiting to assemble those! Overall, there were a lot of fun projects included in this month's box that the kids really enjoyed!

Verdict: This month's We Craft Box was definitely a hit! My kids love space already so making rocket ships, shooting stars and space balls were all perfect activities for them! They loved the little alien friends and can't wait to hold their own space race using their rocket ships. I thought the projects were all really cute and had just the right amount of structure and creativity to them. They also included so many supplies this month which really allowed the kids to create freely and I loved having this planned activity ready to go! For $29.99 + free shipping I thought it was a great value for the unique and fun projects they sent us this month!

While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!
