VetPet Box Cat May 2019 Review

Every month, Vet Pet Box sends toys, supplies, and wellness items:

Included was an information card with more information about the items in the box. Due to some preferences at sign-up, you may not receive every item on the card, and you may occasionally receive an item that is not listed.

Vet Pet Box Cat Version Review May 2019 - Educational Brochure Front TopVet Pet Box Cat Version Review May 2019 - Educational Brochure Back Top

There is always educational material in a full-color, fold-out brochure that is sturdy enough for storage and to later reference. There is a different theme every month (this material is considered to be one of the benefits of paying for the subscription, so it is not reproduced here). This month, it was about kitty thyroid problems. We keep thinking Monkey might have thyroid problems but then we do bloodwork and he always turns out fine.

Vet Pet Box Cat Version Review May 2019 - Lilies Card Top

There was a card reminding you that lilies are toxic to cats. We just don’t have houseplants – too many possibilities for trouble.

There was also some product literature.

Vet Pet Box Cat Version Review May 2019 - Sassy Cat by Herbsmith Salmon Package Top

Sassy Cat by Herbsmith Salmon (0.88 oz) – Retail Value $4.76 (found here for $4.38)

This is freeze-dried salmon. The pieces are kind of big, but not too dense. Most of my cats are not really into freeze-dried treats, although Sneaky likes them. She gets the most treats anyway (before and after her asthma inhaler), so she will probably be consuming most of these. These are single-ingredient treats so they will be good for a lot of cats with food allergies/sensitivities.

Vet Pet Box Cat Version Review May 2019 - Sassy Cat by Herbsmith Whitefish Package Top

Sassy Cat by Herbsmith Whitefish (0.88 oz) – Retail Value $3.89

Here is a different flavor of treats. (In case you were wondering, I couldn’t find both of these for sale at the same place, hence the price difference.) Sneaky was a fan of these, as well.

Vet Pet Box Cat Version Review May 2019 - PetOmega3 by NHV Natural Pet Products Top

PetOmega3 by NHV Natural Pet Products (100 mL) – Listed Value $21.99

This size isn’t available from the manufacturer so I’ve used the value from the information card and linked to the full-size product. This is an omega 3 supplement for small to medium pets. Omega 3 fatty acids may be useful for cardiac health, skin and coat, joints, the immune system, and more. Although Angus and Sneaky are both immune suppressed, this is probably better for Sneaky because Angus can’t handle large amounts of fat from a digestive standpoint, but Sneaky has an iron stomach. I will have to use this for a while in order to see how well it works, though.

Vet Pet Box Cat Version Review May 2019 - Hide and Seek Feather by All for Paws Top

Hide and Seek Feather by All for Paws – Retail Value $6.29

Angus thought this was pretty great; you can see some action shots below. This is made from natural materials and has a variety of textures. It seems pretty sturdy, too, as Angus was quite rough with it.

Vet Pet Box Cat Version Review May 2019 - Shelby the Hemp Mouse by From the Field Top

Shelby the Hemp Mouse by From the Field – Retail Value $13.10

Yes, this is kind of expensive, but all four of my cats love it. Madison rolled all over the floor with it, Angus and Sneaky liked the tail, and Monkey just licked the body over and over again. So this is something that will appeal to older and younger cats, alike. (I find this brand’s toys are always well-received by my crew.)

Vet Pet Box Cat Version Review May 2019 - Shae the Flutterby by From the Field Top

Shae the Flutterby by From the Field x 2 – Retail Value $10.37 each

Here is another From the Field toy; this one is new to me. There is a cork center (Angus chewed on it) and then there are feathers that seem pretty securely attached. The feathers were also quite popular.

Here are some kitty photos for you:

I don’t think that’s really how the tunnel was intended to be used, but he was just having so much fun.

Angus liked this toy, too.

Vet Pet Box Cat Version Review May 2019 - Monkey Angus Front

Monkey watches as Angus goes after the toy I was letting Monkey sniff.

Monkey gets a chance to sniff it after all. Then he licked it, but that didn’t make for good pictures.

Vet Pet Box Cat Version Review May 2019 - Madison 1 TopVet Pet Box Cat Version Review May 2019 - Madison 2 TopVet Pet Box Cat Version Review May 2019 - Madison 3 Top

Madison did his “I’m high on catnip” roll for this toy.

He licked but did not eat the treats.

Vet Pet Box Cat Version Review May 2019 - Sneaky 1 FrontVet Pet Box Cat Version Review May 2019 - Sneaky 2 FrontVet Pet Box Cat Version Review May 2019 - Sneaky 3 Front

Sneaky showed some interest in the toys but we all know what she really wants.

Verdict: I calculated a value of $69.39 for May’s VetPet Box for cats. That’s a pretty high value for this box, or for a cat subscription box in general. From the Field toys are always wins and Angus was quite taken with the tunnel, while Sneaky enjoyed the treats. There was something for all four of my kitties this month.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? New subscribers usually get an introductory box. However, if you contact Vet Pet Box, you can get a past month’s box (like say you really want to get the dental one more than once, because your cat has bad teeth).

THIS is curated by vets? How bad was their GPA in veterinary school? I would expect better from “vets.” I as an animal rescuer for over 30 years *I* could put together a better box than this? Heck, there are already better cat boxes out there right now. Moreover, the other boxes are priced better than this subscription. Hey, “vets,” please stay in your lane. These products suck and are overpriced.

My cats LOVE those From the Field Hemp Mouse toys. Must be some good cat nip!
