The Vegan Cuts Beauty box usually contains a variety of haircare, skincare, and bath and body products. There’s often one makeup product, as well:

Whole Love Organics Deodorant (orange vanilla, 2.5 oz) – Retail Value $9
The information card says this is baking soda free. But as you can see from the label, it has aluminum-free baking soda. Vegan Cuts let us know Whole Love Organics does offer a baking soda free deodorant in this scent and if subscribers have any questions or concerns, reach out to [email protected].
At any rate, I am highly sensitive to baking soda in deodorant so I will be passing this along to someone else who can use it. It does smell nice, though.
Four Sigmatic Superfood Serum (1 fl oz) – Retail Value $55
I am familiar with this company because I have received their mushroom hot cocoa in a past subscription box (I was not a fan but I really, really don’t like mushrooms). I was willing to give this serum a try, though. It has a light citrus scent. I feel that it is very moisturizing although I will have to use it for more than a few days to see if there are noticeable effects on my skin. I have relatively oily skin, especially in summer, but if I exfoliate regularly I have no trouble with oil-based serums like this one. It is also suggested to pump a few drops into your mouth but I choose not to do that. I don’t think a few drops are going to have enough of any active ingredient to actually make a difference. I also don’t really feel like it is sanitary to use the same products on my skin and to take them orally although maybe this is just me. Anyway, it seems to be a good serum so far.
Deco Miami Nail Art Stickers – Retail Value $8
This item is a bit of a miss for me. I am on an extended break from nail polish because my nails are in poor condition, and I tend to stick to solid colors when I do wear nail polish because I feel that’s what it takes to maintain a professional look at work. For me, stickers are just not a part of that. (I am not judging anyone who has a different opinion. They just don’t work for me, personally.) I may drop these in the mail to my sister who has a couple of elementary school age daughters who get their nails done and would probably love the stickers. (They are smaller than they look on the page; there is a printed part that extends beyond the border of the stickers.)
The Humble Co. Bamboo Toothbrush and Toothpaste – Listed Value $4
I am using the information card value here because you can’t buy just one toothbrush, and the toothpaste isn’t available in this size.
Let’s take these one by one:
I have received these toothbrushes in the past and they work well enough. The handles are made from bamboo and are biodegradable (the bristles are soft nylon, though, but I don’t see any way around that). I will add this to my stash of spare toothbrushes and use it when it is next time for a switch.
And now, the toothpaste. According to the Amazon listing (the company website directs you there), this has fluoride and is free of sodium lauryl sulfate (both things I look for in a toothpaste). But if you look at the back of the tube, this clearly has sodium lauryl sulfate (has the British spelling of “sulphate”) and doesn’t seem to contain fluoride. Also. It says “produced in PRC for The Humble Co.” I am not enthusiastic about using toothpaste made in China. I am honestly not sure what is going on here. Is this old product and the formula has changed? Or is the sample different from the full-sized product? I tried contacting Vegan Cuts about this and the deodorant on Twitter a couple of days ago (with pictures) and awaiting a response.
TL;DR: toothbrush good, toothpaste suspect.
Verdict: I calculated a value of $76 for this month’s Vegan Cuts Beauty Box. That is just about three times the $22.95 month-to-month cost of the subscription which includes free shipping. The bulk of the value comes from the serum, and I will use that (on my face only), which makes the box basically worth it for me, but I was less enthusiastic about the other items. I do like the toothbrush, but I won’t use the stickers and there were serious labeling/ingredient issues with the deodorant and toothpaste.
