Target Beauty Box May 2019 Review

This month’s box is all about freshening up your beauty routine, starring 6 products to keep you Spring fresh!

This info card provides a short description of each item sampled and on the flip side a Target coupon good for $3 off a beauty purchase of $15 or more. This month I received a regular barcode coupon to use in store or online.

Dove Cool Essentials Dry Spray Antiperspirant, 1oz - Estimated Value $1.55 (Buy 3.8oz for $5.89)

Ever since I started getting Target Beauty Boxes, I started carrying around a little baby deodorant just like this one in my purse. Target always replenishes my supply, and I always have the comfort of knowing that when my natural deodorant just isn’t up for the job, I have a backup that is ready to perform! This Dove deodorant has a super fresh scent that isn’t overpowering, and it has never irritated my sensitive underarm area. This is my deodorant go to for when I am traveling, and it has never disappointed me. I love that when you apply, it is instantly dry, and my pits continue to feel dry and smell great throughout the day.

Bliss Jelly Glow Peel, 1fl oz - Estimated Value $2.50 (Buy 4fl oz for $9.99)

Target has been sampling Bliss cleansers for a few months now, and as with the last two I received, I really like this peel version. It is a bit of an odd product; you apply to a damp face and massage the product in, and you end up working up these tiny white balls all over your face, which is supposed to be a collection of dead cells and dirt. The peel was a little difficult to fully wash off, but after rinsing I did notice my complexion appeared radiant and felt ultra smooth. This formula didn’t have a tingle or burn to it, and I really think it might be a great product for anyone with sensitive skin. Bliss is also cruelty, paraben, and phthalate free, too!

Sincerely Jules Assorted Jewelry Hair Rings - Retail Value $3.99

I was pretty excited to see a fun beauty accessory in this month’s box! This box is all about festival looks, and hair accessories and braids are super on trend. Unfortunately, I am not a hair wizard. I think I’ve touched a curling iron maybe 3 times this year, total, and I let my hair air dry on the daily. My little to no hair styling ability left me pretty clueless on what to do with this rings, but after watching a few YouTube tutorials, I got a very basic idea… but still failed at accomplishing any style I’d want to share. You just bend each ring until it is parted, position it in your hair, then bend it back together. Sounds simple enough (it wasn’t!).

Masque Bar Holographic Mask Sachet, .4fl oz - Retail Value $3.99

I like to describe my new skincare regimen as being super low maintenance, so I have very little interest in a mask I have to peel off (the 10-year-old inside me just gasped!). I would describe this mask as pearlescent, rather than holographic, and it smells exactly how I remember every peel off mask smelling--a little like glue. I let this mask dry for about 15 minutes and started the peeling process. I managed to peel this off in 3-4 sheets, which was pretty satisfying, yet I didn’t notice a huge difference in my skin after rinsing the little tiny pieces off that stuck to my peach fuzz. Peel off masks now feel like more of a gimmicky product to entertain at sleepovers instead of doing any real complexion work, but it is always fun to bust one out now and again.

Hawaiian Tropic Antioxidant Sunscreen Mist, .9fl oz - Estimated Value $2.12 (Buy 3.4fl oz for $7.99)

Hawaiian Tropic has always made my favorite sunscreens, but I have been sticking to mineral SPF since I’m pregnant. This one protects using Avobenzone, Homosalate, and Octocrylene (all chemical sunscreens). I used this on Ryan before he went golfing, and he seemed to like the non-greasy spray application. This is also perfect to spray in your part to avoid a sunburnt head since it isn’t a lotion or cream consistency.  I will say that the scent is very overpowering when you first spray it; the general rule when applying spray sunscreen is to apply in an open space then rub it in to coat your skin. After the initial chemical smell dissipated, it had a nice tropical fragrance, and SPF 30 kept Ryan from getting a burnt scalp and golfer’s burn/tan.

SGX NYC The Do-It-All 3-in-1 Dry Texture Spray, 1oz - Estimated Value $1.23 (Buy 6.5oz for $7.99)

Texture sprays are everything for my fine hair, and I love sampling new ones! My favorite has to be Ouai’s but this one definitely made an impression. I sprayed it throughout the mid-length of my hair, and after I gave my hair a tousle, it zhuzhed up my lifeless hair for a time. The effects didn’t last but a few hours, but the soft, fresh fragrance stayed with my doo all day long.

Target Beauty Box - May 2019 - Sinful Colors Nail Polish 3

Sinful Colors Nail Polish, in Fool for Azul - Estimated Value $1.99

Sinful Colors has a great array of bright colors, including this lively aqua shade; I couldn’t find this color online at Target, but I found a few others that I promptly added to my cart. The wear time is pretty standard, 2 days with minimal chipping, and Sinful Colors also is toluene and formaldehyde free!

Verdict: Target’s festival picks were awesome this month! The value of this box is $17.37, over double the cost, and I (or Ryan) will definitely use everything up. This box is a great way to stock up on travel essentials, and I love seeing the different products Target has to offer. All in all, I was very happy with this month’s box!

What do you think of the May’s Target Beauty Box?

Abby Holsinger
I’m a self-proclaimed “cool mom” who loves a little, who am I kidding, a lot of razzle-dazzle. I have been box-obsessed for over 10 years, and I am always on the hunt for new beauty, fun flair and trendy clothing boxes. A fun night for me includes an exfoliating foot mask and a bag of Dot's Pretzels while binging Rupaul’s Drag Race.

Abby, you said you watched a few videos on how to use these ‘hair rings’…but I haven’t been able to find a single tutorial on it.
Has anyone else seen videos for this? Can you point me in the right direction? I have no clue how to use these.

Here is one I watched that seemed pretty helpful, lots of great ideas. I’ve never watched her videos before, but I liked the styles she came up with (I skipped around to each new hairstyle) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bc7qsBSrbOU 🙂

I just ordered mine and went back to check and mine, of course, is without the nail polish as well. Still get 6 samples I believe and that’s worth $7 to me. Plus I reordered the April box that has the Method body wash in it. That stuff smells sooo good and so soft and creamy on my super dry skin!. And even tho I already bought the full size that sample will be great for travel.

Beware of the blue nail polish, it stained my nails. I did not use a base polish. It looks like I have oxygen deprivation.

The box is oddly still available but without the blue nail polish. You won’t see it through the link in this post, but if you search for beauty box on targets website it will show up as the May beauty box. For those of us stragglers.

I wish I would have read this sooner. It feels a little sneaky to do this knowing that most of us wouldn’t notice.

I contacted target about the missing polish…was offered 30% refund from cost of box ($2.10)

Be glad you didn’t get the nail polish. It stained my nails blue. It looks like I have oxygen deprivation.

Mine was missing the polish as well. Very disappointed since that was the item I was most anticipating.
