Scent Box April 2019 Review

This month, I received Scent Box’s “Scent of the Month.”

Scent Box April 2019 - Booklet BackScent Box April 2019 - Booklet Front

The information card has a little information about the men’s scent of the month on one side and the women’s on the other side.

In case I have not mentioned it in the past, you get a new holder every month and the fragrance is printed on a sticker on the bottom, and the holders tend to be different colors each month, so you can still keep them sorted out.

Also, weirdly, the inside of my envelope this month smelled like lemongrass but thankfully, the fragrance did not. Don’t know what was up with that.

On to the fragrance:

Happy Heart by Clinique – Estimated Value $8.32 (buy 50 mL for $52)

This one, I am familiar with, as I buy Clinique products from time to time and this is sometimes included in a gift with purchase. This was released in 2012 and the main notes are water hyacinth, mandarin, and white wood (the Clinique site lists several kinds of wood including sandalwood, and I can definitely detect the sandalwood).

This reminds me vaguely of a bath and body product I have used in the past, maybe something from Dove, although the usual Dove fragrance notes are not in this product. It’s a positive association, just not one I can quite put my finger on. The mandarin is barely noticeable (on me). I am mostly getting a fairly strong floral scent that is toned down by sandalwood. I think the sandalwood is what makes this one work for me as I am not normally a fan of florals but I do like them a bit when they are combined with woods.

The sillage is stronger than I expected, my poor dog left the room as soon as I put this on, but I can see how a really sensitive dog nose might be bothered! Longevity is about average for me.

Verdict: The estimated value of my fragrance this month is $8.32. That is below the cost of the subscription, but your value will vary quite a lot depending on your selections, and of course you are getting a holder every month as well as the ability to make free exchanges if you don’t care for the fragrance you receive (those last two are definitely not offered with any other fragrance subscription). I am liking this one more than I expected and have honestly been having a pretty good run considering I’m always getting the scent of the month (which is always a surprise).

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today?  Yes, all you have to do is choose this fragrance.

Value Breakdown:  This subscription is $14.95 a month and this month, I received $8.32 worth of fragrance (but again, this is highly variable based on what scent or product you choose).

I decided that I’m not going to do Scentbird any more after last year’s catastrophe, so I was very curious to see what Scent Box had to offer. In my opinion, the available fragrances are not as good as what Scentbird has, but my Scent box order came on time & was correct! I do value this in a subscription box, lol. I am also curious about their exchange policy, but I actually really liked the perfume I chose, so I won’t be testing it out!

I started this subscription last month and it’s great. I like that I can pause my subscription also if I dont want a scent that month.. I like that I can also change my options.at anytime and exchange the fragrances if they are not what I like..

I’ve been subscribed with scentbox now since September 2018 & love them. I’ve also noticed that like Scentbird, you can remove the bottles & even unscrew them to refill with the same fragrance or wash them out and refill with a fragrance of your choice. You can also peel off the sticker on the bottom. It’s been a great subscription for me. And considering I used to spend anywhere from $15-$30 for an atomizer, it’s a great deal. Thanks for receiving Scentbox because I thought only Scentbird was the only fragrance subscription option out there. (They’re equally great).

There’s also Olfactif out there that I like for fragrances

There is also Luxury Scent Box but I haven’t received that one in awhile.

Luxury scent box is a disaster, I do not recommend them AT ALL.

Alexis

There is also Olfactif subscription, but they give a selection of three niche fragrances (you don’t get to choose) every month around a theme and they are deluxe sample sizes, so no atomizer.
I really like them since I get to try fragrances I’ve never even heard of and I’ve liked most of them, though some more than others and I do like to experiment with a variety of scents and not necessarily stick to certain notes.
