Nosejoy April 2019 "Keep Calm" Review

Nosejoy usually sends a welcome card with a note from the sub's curator and an info slip that gives a little description of each item in your box. I love that Emily's note this month gives us a little peek into her life and a chance to relate to all she has going on. She acknowledges that our versions of life's day-to-day chaos might look different than hers, but we all have the common need to find our calm. That's what this month's theme is all about!

Latika Amazonite Geode Bath Bomb, 8 oz — Listed Value $11.65 (Buy a set of 3 here for $34.95)

Seriously, I've never seen such a beautiful bath bomb. It was handmade in Texas, like all Latika items, and is intended to calm and moisturize. This bath bomb is free of SLS, parabens, and phthalates, though it does have glitter as part of its decoration, and there's no mention on the site of it being the biodegradable kind. I used to be a glitter fanatic before I learned of its negative environmental impacts, but even then I'm not sure I would've wanted to actually bathe in it. Some don't mind that, though! Which is why I'll likely pass this bath bomb off to a friend. I will say that it does smell fresh and lovely!

Honestly Margo Aurora Lavender Sleep Balm, 0.56 oz — Retail Value $10

Aromatherapy is an effective method of calming the body, and I sometimes use a lavender-chamomile essential oil blend on the back of my baby daughter's neck to help ease her into sleep. This balm has the same effect! It's made with organic lavender essential oil, and I like that you can even just use it as lip balm if you wish—that isn't always recommended with essential oil products since not all oils are safe to consume. It's got that classic lavender scent, which is such a comfort.

Hallo Kerti Angelica Herb Candle, 3 oz — Retail Value $14

This is the second month in a row that Nosejoy has provided us with a small candle in a colored glass jar. I'm cool with it! I love having candles all around the house so that when I want to light one I don't have to go hunting. This one has such an unexpected aroma; one which is intended to "capture the natural, undisturbed auras of Iceland." I went to Iceland five years ago and remember its poignant quiet and profoundness so vividly, so it's fun to imagine some of my favorite areas with this candle lit. Talk about calming! By the way, I love that this candle was made with a "100% GMO-free soy base and a sturdy cotton wick." Such thought and care was put into this product.

Deep Steep Lavender Chamomile Body Spray, 4 oz — Retail Value $7.95

I've received a number of sprays in sub boxes over the years and recently commented in a Nosejoy review that quite honestly I don't feel I "get" them. I have some in my bathroom and one on my nightstand, but I rarely think to use them. I like that this one is called "body spray," so, like the balm above, I'm being given the OK to use it on my skin safely. The scent of this spray is light and somehow airy-seeming, and it's a wonderfully gentle smell to experience.

Verdict: This month's Nosejoy theme came at a good time for me—I was truly needing to take time to myself and reset, and these scents inspired me to actually do it. My favorite product this month was the candle. Value-wise, this month included fewer items than last month, but they added up to well exceed the cost of the box (which is $34.95 with free shipping) at $43.60. I'm happy with this value—this is not uncommon for this box!

...and doing it all with energy, delight, and jokes along the way.

I love baths!! & try to get items for having a nice one!

But to buy an actual $10-$12 bath bomb just because it looks pretty. That’s like drawing up a bath and tossing a $10 bill into it and going down the drain 25 min later.

Hi! Emily, the box owner here. Your comments about the glitter on the bath bomb led me to inquire with the brand about what they use. Latika sent me this response for you, so I thought I would share. See below:

Hello!

While some of our bath bombs do have a small amount of glitter on them, the Amazonite bath bomb is decorated with shimmering Mica powder and not with glitter. (the metallic brush stroke or the gold rim on the geode bath bombs are all mica and not glitter)
Mica is sourced from either a natural mineral source (similar to mineral make up) or it can be a synthetic mica.
At Latika we use all natural mica powders. As far as we know from inquiring with our vendors, the natural mica is not biodegradable.

We are happy to learn that our customers are conscious about the effect products have on our planet and we are always looking for new ways to improve our ingredient sourcing- including glitter. We are working towards replacing our glitter with biodegradable, but it does take some time and process. We will proudly announce when we are fully converted to eco-glitter!

Thank you for inquiring! and enjoy your bath!

Mazzi, Founder at Latika

They always have such great curation. I think at this point with doing sub boxes for 8 years that is a very important thing for me. The box value works for me with how thoughtfully they curate. I do wish it was bi-monthly or quarterly. I have only one monthly box and the other few are quarterly. I don’t just want an influx of “stuff”

Totally agree, Lynn. I adore this box’s curation, it’s always so well thought out. Also agree that a bi-monthly or quarterly option for those who prefer it would be wonderful as the clutter factor is so real in general with sub boxes. 🙂

This doesn’t seem like much for the price. Disappointing because I’ve been watching this sub, thinking about adding it.
