Ipsy is a monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. Each month you get full-size or deluxe-sized products, plus a cute makeup bag.

This is one of Liz’s top recommendations if you are looking for a subscription box – the value and sample sizes are amazing. (Check out our list of the best beauty boxes for 2019 and our reviews of Cheap Subscription Boxes for more recommendations!)

R+Co Waterfall Moisture and Shine Lotion, 0.5 fl oz – Estimated Value $2.90 (Buy a full size 5 fl oz for $29.00)

I love this brand and I love this product, though I have seen it floating around a lot recently. I don’t mind because I like stashing these little tubes all over, in my purse, desk, etc. I like to use this lotion on dry hair to help smooth my frizz and flyaways. It also smells incredible, like a moody perfume!

What a pretty color! Not quite red, not quite orange, this shade sits right between and it a great color choice for summer. The coverage is excellent and the formula itself is mostly matte, but not nearly as drying like so many other matte lippies out there. It wore for hours without moving and looked even more beautiful with a little gloss on top. My only complaint is that it is a wood pencil that will need sharpening, and I literally never have a sharpener around when I need it.

PIXI By Petra H2O Skindrink, 0.41 fl oz – Estimated Value $7.64 (buy a full size 1.18 fl oz for $22.00)

As you can see in our detail photo, this formula was super watery. I highly recommend shaking it before use, as it will then turn back into the gel form that it is meant to be! A moisturizing aloe formula, it is filled with little encapsulated bits of water that deeply hydrate your skin. It also smells heavenly!

Ipsy May 2019 beauty subscription box review shadow swatch

BLOSSOM Compact Eyeshadow in ‘Dusty Miller’, 0.78 oz – FULL SIZE! Retail Value $18.00

Wow! This color is stunning. I mix of grey, green, and brown, you can use this sparingly for a subtle shadow look or heavy-handed for some major drama. It is a very smooth texture and has good pigment. I also think it is worth noting that this shadow has a remarkably low level of fallout, especially when applied gently with a fingertip.

Verdict: This Ipsy Glam Bag has an overall value of $67.04, which is excellent for such an inexpensive subscription. This box tends to really deliver on value! The curation was well rounded too, with products from hair care, to makeup, and even skincare. My faves would be the eyeshadow and the lippie, as well as the hair lotion. The brush and H2O gel were both really great too!

                To Wrap Up:

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

                1. I got my may bag after my subscription to ipsy for the first time. Here are the products i got
a rose gold brush, ilamasque jelly viel sample primer, pixie rose gold eye gel liner pencil, buxom sample lip gloss in claire and sample wrinkle cream. So overall i would give 4 out of 5 for my products that i received. I am ok with what i received so far in this bag. Not so bad except for wrinkle cream that i disliked.

                2. I signed up for the June bag and it was verified I would get the June bag and May’s bag just arrived????? But I like what I received so it’s fine. I got the Rose gold blush brush, the Pretty Woman nail polish in platinum,Goldfadden moisturizer, Estate green eyeshadow and Buxom lip polish in Clair. Even the bag is pretty.

                3. I got 5 totally different products .
I received a brush.. The rose gold blush brush , Filorga time-filler cream, Alterna Bond repair heat protection spray for hair, Huda liquid matte lip color in heartbreaker (a nice reddish color), and Ariza nude shimmer and contour eyeshadow –a four pack of copper and brown colors.. very nice colors.
Didn’t really need yet another brush, but overall a nice bag!

                4. My tracking shows a significant delay – was meant to arrive by the 18th and hasn’t yet. Anyone else not yet got their box??

                  • I’m in the same boat. The shipping label was printed on the 13th and my bag hasn’t moved! I emailed customer service last week when I noticed it hasn’t moved for a whole and got the “don’t worry email”. I emailed back asking what the real problem is, b/c I normally get my bag by the 2nd week. It’s not moved and we are in the 4th week of the month!

                  • Mine had the same thing. I was supposed to get it on the 18th but just got it today. My bag had the correct 3 add on items but all 5 items that I was supposed to get were different. They sent a completely different bag to me than what I thought I was getting.

                  • I haven’t received mine yet! It says it was shipped on the 17th and would arrive on the 23rd. They didn’t give me a tracking number until around the 20th. I just checked and it said it won’t arrive until June 3rd.

                5. I always enjoy my Ipsy and Ipsy GBP even if I don’t like all the products I’ll either give them away or sell on eBay . So nothing goes to waste . I e found some really great products I still order to this day . Love my subs even if there not always everything I want or need. That’s the gamble of the sub game and I’m okay with that. Always feel like Christmas when I get my boxes and bags every month 🥰

                6. I’m getting that Lord & Berry lip crayon too. The color looks gorgeous. I was worried about it because the picture on Ipsy made it look not that great. But seeing it swatched, I’m excited to get it, yay!

                  • I actually like it more and more! My trick today was to just use a little in the middle of my lips then put a clear gloss overtop and rub my lips together. It kind of wears like a stain that fades towards the edges of my lips.

                7. I got the same bag but with the multistick instead of the hair product. I love that eyeshadow. I am still on the fence about the lip crayon. I pretty much stick to dark wines or maybe a true red, but I’ll give it a shot.

Unfortunately, my bag arrived without my SR Good Genes add-on. When I emailed, they were out and gave me a credit. That was the product I was looking forward to the most!

                8. I am still waiting on.my bag and it is the first time that my Allure box showed up first. I am supposed to get everything in this bag except I am getting sheet masks instead of that lotion.

                9. I got the estate eyeshadow in a green and tried to list it but they don’t have any eyeshadow singles on their site 😂

                10. I’m still waiting on my bag *tiny tear *. I’m really excited about the Estate Cosmetics lip gloss that’s in my bag since I really like their highlighters. I also got the Filorga cream, which I requested via ‘Improve Glam Bag’. Everything else I plan to swap. (Alterna Caviar hair stuff, Oryza all bronze shadow palette, double ended brush)

While this bag is a bit of a dud for me, it has been almost a year since I received my last “dud” bag. I did get 3 add-ons that make it a little more interesting (Goldfaden moisturizer, bellapierre powder, & the intriguing pore cleanser powder/clay thingy).

                  • Do you happen to know when the new products come out for the Improve Glam Bag option? Thanks!

                    • They have been up for awhile. I found five that I like.

                      • Cool, thanks! I went to check today, but it wasn’t there. I suspect it has to do with the fact that I had regrettably cancelled my Ipsy bags a few days ago, but yesterday they confirmed they re-instated my bags (boy, how quickly I change my mind! lol). The status was still showing as Not Active, so I contacted them asking how long it would take for it to change back to Active. I hope I can update the Improve Glam Bag option in the next few days!

                11. I’m really loving *Ipsy

                12. Best Ipsy bag for me so far! I’m really loving Ispy!

                13. My bag is entirely different (that’s okay). I would like to see a photo of the Pixi once shaken. I’m a bit confused about what it “should be.”

I generally am very pleased with ipsy and always seem to get new things to try and I am rarely disappointed by any of the eyeshadows they send.

                  • Hey Anne! It basically was just a clear gel instead of a liquid.

                14. I was shorted an eyeshadow Painted Canyon #06 from May’s bag. I’ve emailed them with no response. Not good business.

                15. I just re-subed to IPSY regular Glam Bag and thought my first bag would be for June (as they said)…BUT it appears I’m getting a May bag. So, when checking it seems I will be receiving (the left overs of the month?):
1). NAISTURE Charcoal 3 Step Nose Pack
2). PRETTY WOMAN Nail Polish in some silvery color
                  3). SLMISSGLAM Blending Brush
4). PIXI BY PETRA H20 Skindrink (only similarity with this review)
5). OFRA Rose Gold Metallic Liquid Lippie

Good value even if I won’t use it all.

                  • I subbed for the first time this month and also got that Ofra lipstick and the nail polish. The lipstick I feel could also be used as a shadow, and honestly when I searched it I thought it was a liquid shadow at first. Doesn’t look great on me by itself but would make a great topper or with gloss over.
I also got a nice eyeshadow palette and a hi lighter.

                  • When did you resub? I did on 5/6 and according to my homepage I won’t get it because I subbed after 5/5. So far the website hasn’t changed to indicate I am getting one and after seeing a few bags people have received, I haven’t had any fomo.

Next month’s tetris spoilers have me pretty jazzed to have resubbed though. Half debating doing both subs on my account for IGBP (I have two accounts because when IGBP was introduced you couldn’t have both)

                    • Reece: I just re-subbed a few days ago and was told the same thing…that I wouldn’t be getting a bag until June, but lo and behold; when I went to my IPSY page (on the 20th) it showed me what I would be getting. Then they sent me an email with tracking info a few hours later. Go figure. Your IPSY page doesn’t show anything? That is odd

                  • first time Ive ever had a bag twin! I only like a couple of things…mine just arrived today

                    • Elaine: Which items did you like? It appears, I won’t be getting my bag until next week.

                  • The Ofra is a great formula. I received Mocha. It is more of a matte deep reddish brown. I will use it layered with something lighter. Definitely shake the Skin Drink before using it. My first squeeze was mostly water.

                16. I got this lip color. Too bad I didn’t wait for a review. Way too warm of a color for me. One swipe and I knew it was not going to work. Darn. I hate throwing products away.

                17. Wow….that Dusty Miller looks completely different on you than it does in the ipsy promo video! In the video, it is most definitely a light grey and doesn’t mention any type of multichrome shift. Fascinating what it looks like on your skin tone!

                  • That’s what I thought as soon as I saw the top photo with the shadow on the glitter bag! I could see that it wasn’t the flat grey color I thought it was.

                  • It was more of a muddy grey with definite brown+green going on. I am super fair though, and sometimes things look very dark on me

                  • I think I threw mine away. It was very light grey when I swatched it and didn’t show up well at all for me. (very light skinned person) Mine definitely did not look like it does pictured here!

                18. I love this month’s bag, the pink and green and gold glittery sandy, SO. MUCH. It makes up for getting mascara and bronzer, two things I’d say “never send me” if I could (and did when they gave that option a year or two ago). I got the Feel facial oil and the multistick, both of which I’m eager to try, so a good month overall!

                  • I’m pretty sure you have to renew your request to exclude certain categories. From what I understood from my interaction with Ipsy Care recently they don’t set it up to keep things out indefinitely. I believe it’s just for several months. I can’t remember exactly but I know it’s less than a year. They were very accommodating as far as this issue so I’d just email them and ask them to exclude your choices again. If you don’t want to have to keep renewing your request and you know you’ll never want those types of products, you can request excluding them for the duration of your membership if you specify that. I was offered that option but chose not to do that in case my needs changed.

                  • Contact them to stop the two products you don’t want. I think it falls out of the system. Especially if you pause a month. I have eyeliner and shadow as my no products. I need to change it to eyeliner and highlighter. Love eyeliner, but not black. I always get black, even when there are other options.
