April 2019: Can't Clutch This Review

This month it looks like our packaging got a nice update and instead of a box, our clutch arrived in a pillow mailer. Another nice change is that our clutch arrived in this pink dust bag which is just big enough to fit our new clutch inside. This will be nice for travel when you want to have a few options with you!

Silver Glitter Clutch - Estimated Value $29.99

This month's clutch is a bit smaller at 7"x9" and it is made of this fun silver glitter. The purse is actually pleather so it is smooth to the touch and the glitter is completely protected so there is no worry of any glitter escaping and it looks extra shiny! This clutch was designed to be one that you can take to nicer events which is why the designer chose the envelope style flap. It features two loops on the outside so that you can attach a wrist or shoulder strap to it. Last month I felt like they really stood out against the design and looked awkward, but this month they blend into the silver glitter, so they don't bother me as much.

This clutch features silver hardware and opens up to reveal a zippered pocket with another smaller zippered pocket on the interior. They chose to include the yellow for a fun pop of color to offset the dressier style of this clutch and while I am all about a pop of color, I'm not sure I am loving the yellow with the silver. When I saw spoilers for this they mentioned a space theme and I would have loved to see a fun patterned planet or galaxy interior!

Here is a photo of an old iPhone 7 Plus case next to the clutch so you can see it will be just big enough to fit the essentials for a night out.

These are the two keychains that were designed to go along with this month's clutch, but unfortunately, they are not included in your subscription. You have the option to add flair and other accessories to your box each month with no additional shipping charge. It looks like a shoulder strap costs $9.99 while the keychains cost $5.99 for the planet and $8.99 for the rocket.

Here is the clutch in hand to give you a better sense of scale.

The Verdict: This month's clutch from Can't Clutch This is very basic and sparkly and will go with just about any outfit. I love the silver glitter and the style of the clutch, but without any included flair or accessories like a wrist or shoulder strap, I can't help but feel like it's a bit boring for this price point. The monthly subscription cost is $27.99 and that is quite a bit for such a simple piece. I may not be able to find this exact clutch in a store, but don't think it would be too hard to find something comparable. I really wish that the flair (keychains) had been included or just something extra to make it feel like it's worth more than just the $2 savings you get for subscribing (based on their clutch retail values of $29.99). If you do choose an annual subscription, the savings are pretty significant as the subscription drops down to $19.99 per month and you are able to skip a clutch if you happen to dislike the design for the month.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? There is currently a waitlist and this clutch is already sold out. Order before the 16th at 9:59 am ET to receive next month's clutch! From Studio DIY:

Clutches ship to subscribers around the 20th of every month. Subscribers are charged on the 20th of every month.

Value Breakdown: This subscription costs $27.99/ month + free shipping and we received one clutch with a retail value of $29.99 which is a savings of $2 with a subscription.

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

I wonder how long this sub will be around for the cost…seems overpriced and it’s ridiculous that you have to pay extra for the strap. This clutch looks plastic and cheap.

I love the idea of this subscription but their is no way I would pay $28 just for the clutch. I agree with what you said in the review; I definitely think it should come with the straps and keychains at that price point. I think it would make this subscription alot more enjoyable as well.

I love glitter so this bag is right up my alley, BUT that yellow lining just doesn’t seem to be a good choice. And this sub needs a strap for its clutches to be worth that price.

So $46 with a strap and keychain? Yikes, I could go to Ross or TJ Maxx and get a purse and a clutch for less than that.

For $28/month you definitely should be getting a strap and keychain included! Otherwise it’d be better to just go to a store and pick something out on your own!

I agree with you. And…a new clutch every month?? I guess I’m just lazy because I use the same purse for months. I’ve never understood the clutch either. If I’m going out I don’t want to hold my purse. I need a strap of some kind or I’m sure to lose it.

This is … odd. I would think they’d include both a shoulder and a wristlet strap for that price. I just don’t really see the value here.

10 dollars for a strap and 8 bucks for a dinky keychain? I’m sorry but that’s is just plain silly

Every month I look at this and can’t help feeling like with the eyelets for a strap but no strap, this looks like a bag I would’ve shoved in my closet because it’s too cute to trash but looks half done without the strap. I REALLY wish they’d tuck the eyelets inside or something. I’d be keen to subscribe if they’d figure that out.

I am in looooove with cute purses like these, but I sincerely hope the company reads these reviews as I think it would benefit this sub greatly if:

1.) at least 1 of the 2 charms came with the clutch
2.) the little flaps that connect to a strap we’re INSIDE instead of outside the clutch to hide from view
3.) the strap was $2-$5 instead of $10 or there are at least cheaper variations to choose from
4.) the cut-off date to skip a month’s design was the same day or day after the design is revealed

This is such a cute sub and so my style but the steep price and everything mentioned above keeps me and my like-minded friends away 🙁

Love seeing this subscription reviewed! Thank you. I subscribed last month and am currently on the waitlist. Looking forward to receiving my first one!

I know you gotta make money somehow but making you buy the strap for ten dollars? Come on. That makes the company look so stingy… the charms I get, the strap? Wow.

Thank you Brandi for not sugarcoating the obvious: The yellow lining negates this piece as a nice dressy evening clutch; the “ears” should be hidden under the flap; the keychain should have been included for this price.

I have to correct you here on “this clutch is already sold out”. It was never available to begin with. Most if not all of the clutches are not. It looks as if she only manufactures a batch on demand for a specific purpose. So what’s the point?

I was curious about this sub but will pass. The clutches are marked “out of stock”, and for the surprise/gotcha element of a sub, the price should be lower than just $2 off the retail price.
