BoxyLimited: Skincare Box Review

Boxy Charm Limited Skincare May 2019 beauty box review card front

Each box comes with a card detailing the items included.

Boxy Charm Limited Skincare May 2019 beauty box review card back with product info

I love skincare items because I am on a quest to be foundation/powder free this summer, and healthy skin feels kind of mandatory to achieve this goal. Though I ADORE makeup of all kinds and would never go cold turkey (even if my skin was perfect) my current routine feels so heavy. Primer, concealer, foundation, powder, blush, highlighter, mascara, brows, lipliner, it all just feels like so much!

When I brought this box home I decided to use all of the products together on the same night and see what happened.

Because this is an exceptionally well-rounded assortment of skincare items, I am reviewing these products in the order I used them!

Kopari Coconut Cleansing Oil 150 ml - Retail Value $32.00

I am an oil queen, even when it comes to cleansers! They really do such an amazing job of getting makeup off of my face. The ingredients with this cleanser suggest you can use it on wet or dry skin, but do me a favor and try it on dry. It is SO much more effective! This is a super watery formula and in the shower, with wet hands, you can barely even feel it and the difference in your skin is hard to tell. I like to apply it while I am waiting for my shower water to get hot and rub it into my dry skin in circular motions. I then kind of let it sink in for a moment or two then wash off. I tend to double cleanse so I like to follow up with a water-based or creamy cleanser after. This cleanser is really gentle and if you are without water you can also apply it then wipe it away with a cloth and go on with your day. I also tried it on the ends of my hair and on my elbows and knees. These fatty oils are really beneficial wherever!

Saturday Skin Rub-A-Dub Refining Peel Gel, 75 ml - Retail Value $28.00

This is one of those products that you use on dry skin and when you rub in circular motions it balls up into little particles of dead skin, makeup, and product. I am pretty skeptical about these sorts of peels because I feel like the majority of those pills are just the same product you apply to your face. I really don't know. This product is really well reviewed and loved by many though, so there had to be something to it. Along with the pilling action, this formula has micro exfoliators that gently scrub your skin. Though it wasn't earth-shattering for me, this product worked just fine and the packaging is super cute! It was a good followup to the oil cleansing step.

Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Jelly Sheet Mask Duo Set - Listed Value $16.00

Is anything more summery than a watermelon gel mask? Probably a real watermelon, but one of those didn't come in this month's box so we will have to make due. These very cute two-part masks feel very refreshing and cooling on your skin. They are a pale pink gel so you can't really tell you have a mask on until you look closer and scare your husband or roommate with your very shiny skin. My skin loves a good gel mask and this was no exception, leaving my face plump, bright, and very moisturized. They were a little sticky, but not so much that I felt the need to rinse my face before our next serum step below. Sephora used to carry these masks for $8 each. I remember because I bought one when they first launched! While they are no longer anywhere to be found on the site, I do feel like the listed value is accurate from personal experience buying.

GLAMGLOW Superserum, 1 oz - Retail Value $65.00

GLAMGLOW is one of those brands that has such a cult following because the formulas are really innovative, trendy, and simply, super cool. I don't usually buy them because they are so expensive and when it comes to masks I find them drying. Though this serum is recommended for oily or normal skin, I was still excited to try it on my dry skin. It has all the good stuff: lactic acid, salicylic acid, glycolic acid, mandelic acid, tartaric acid, and pyruvic acid, charcoal, and hyaluronic acid. I know you are all like "Megan, that is a lot of acids!" and you are right! I would be shocked if this stuff didn't help over time with brighter skin, as acids micro-exfoliate and promote cell turnover. They also can make your skin a little sensitive so be sure to moisturize and minimize sun exposure unless you have on some SPF. I have only used it for one night, but I was pretty impressed with how smooth and bright my skin was the next morning, and with minimal dryness.

Cosmedix Jade Roller - Retail Value $32.00

I love rollers because they bridge two of my greatest loves: stones and skincare. I already have a rose quartz roller and though I often forget to use it, I keep it around because it is just so pretty on my vanity and makes me feel very fancy. This very pretty jade version was perfect for rolling on my face after I applied the GLAMGLOW serum. I had stashed it in my fridge for about an hour beforehand and the coolness felt incredible.

Marne and Anna already killed a roller post, so if you want in-depth details about how they work and the benefits, you simply must click here.

Elemis Superfood Night Cream, 30 ml - Retail Value $55.00

I can't go to bed without a night cream. I can absolutely tell a difference in my skin if I skip a night, and it ain't pretty. This formula is filled with pre-biotics and tons of omega-rich oils from rice, flax, chia, and barley. This blend is meant to improve the health of your skins natural microbiome, and while I am not 100% sure of what that actually means I can say that it was intensely calming and hydrating. Though it is a skin moisture bomb, it was on the lighter end as far a night cream goes, so if you want to try our a quality cream that isn't heavy, give this a go. It also smells great!

Caudalie Grape Water, 75 ml - Retail Value $10.00

(This box contains this item OR Korres Cleansing Wipes)

I previously receive and reviewed this product back in April, and though I love the brand I wasn't completely sold on how useful this stuff was. It is now hot outside and I have changed my mind! I applied this before the highlighter below to give my skin a little refreshing mist and prep it for products. I mentioned before, I am trying to go foundation free, so a hydrated skin surface is important so I don't look gross and dry. This instantly gave me a little hydration boost and felt great. I plan on keeping it at my desk for a midday spritz ever so often when I feel dry or just want to capture a little dewiness on my skin.

Farsalicare Jelly Beam Highlighter in 'Glow Up', 15 ml - Retail Value $40.00

We finally made it to the makeup product! When this product first launched it had SO much hype. I had seen this as a featured tester at Sephora, and it was dried out and just really SO gross. I honestly didn’t even give it a second thought, despite the hype train. I was really turned off by that tester! That being said, it was really nice to get a new one that hasn’t been touched by all the fingers in Allegheny County! Though this stuff has a texture that made Marne and I really confused, the goopy gel applies very smoothly and turns into a super smooth, sheer finish. I have large pores and if powder highlighters aren't used sparingly enough, they are magnified and my skin looks really bumpy. This jelly gives you a glow of a powder without the cake! My look today was simply this on my cheeks and forehead and a little setting powder on top. This color is actually very subtle and a little went a long way! I am a jelly convert.

Verdict: Boxycharm hit this LE box out of the park for me. I got to try a ton of new products as well as an older one that I have a newfound appreciation for. I loved the whole box but especially the Farsali jelly beam, GLAMGLOW serum, Kopari cleanser, and the Elemis night cream. This would be a perfect box for a skincare addict or novice, and I love how each of the items can be used in a single, well-rounded routine. My skin looks incredible today and I feel like I can absolutely comfortably be foundation free until winter, as long as I make sure to pamper my skin. I am happy that these products will help keep my skin looking great with or without makeup. The overall value for this box was an impressive $278.00, which is awesome for a $50 investment.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Sadly this box has sold out. I recommend you sign up to receive updates on future Limited Editions because they always have fun products with good value.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

Gotta be honest, I am not a fan of the new formatting for photos. On mobile it makes the photos so small and I preferred being able to see all the photos arbora once

I know we are getting way off topic here, but… I am middle aged and suffered from adult acne… about a year ago I started taking a nighttime zinc vitamin supplement and washing my face with Clearasil 2% salicylic acid wash. Seriously, I can’t believe the difference.
No doubt about it. Also don’t squeeze blackheads LOL.

I agree with you about those peels that “ball up”. I think it’s a gimmick. Also, they tend to stick to the peach fuzz on my face. Yuck! The rest of this box looks great!

I just don’t think they are really a thing! Glad I am not alone. 🙂

i decided not to get it bc product overload but now I am feeling major FOMO. 🙁

I love that Glamglow serum! For some reason that combination of acids works really well for my combination skin.

I think I really like it too, the more and more I wear it.

Initially I wasn’t going to get the box. I haven’t been happy with my regular BoxyCharm subscription so I figured this would be a flop too..Not to mention all the delays in getting it shipped..But of course I caved. Glad I did! This turned out to be a fantastic box! 😊 I wish Boxy would have 2 subscriptions. A skincare and a makeup box monthly..and can the Boxyluxe all together.

I would totally be so excited about a skincae only box! I think it is a brilliant idea.

I’m also trying to go foundation free. I’m in the DC area and it’s already grossly humid.
I’m actually not a fan of the oil cleanser, but just the serum and Elemis cream are well worth the $50. I do like the grape water, but I feel like it isn’t more beneficial than like, water. Lol.
I’m neutral on the roller. It’s nice, but I doubt I’ll use it much.
I haven’t tried the rest but I’m excited about them.

I love this box! I’m surprised you didn’t mention the smell of the serum… it’s awful! I have my moisturizer ready to help mask the smell. I recently cancelled boxycharm, but I would definitely resub if they do other skincare boxes in the future. I also like how they are incorporating more skincare into boxyluxe, I’m just on product overload right now.

I didn’t mind the scent, but I do tend to like weird/spicy/herbal scents. Ditto on a skincare box. It should be a thing!

I had to go back and smell mine. I’ve been using it every day since I got it and haven’t noticed a smell. If anything, to me, it smells slightly of black licorice, but only a little bit, and it goes away pretty quickly. I think the Elemis night cream smells worse, but also not bad, like oregano or something..

Reply ButtonReply

Lindsay

The smell does dissipate fast, but is really strong to me at first. I haven’t opened the Elemis yet. I like some earthy smells, so hopefully I like it.

Rachel

I decided not to get this box. I’ve been with Boxy for 4+ years and it seems like they’re all about the money anymore. Offering first dibs to anyone who chose to pay a year upfront was tacky, IMO. Not once have original subscribers been offered first grabs at a special box. That alone tells me that money is more important than loyal customers. With that said, if the boxes don’t keep improving (no more random old filler items), I’m also gone. They’ve lost a lot of the original subscribers and this is why.

Ashley

Omg the picture of you two with the rollers is hilarious 😂

Megan K.

Haha that is Marne and Anna! They are really darling with or without rollers.

I wasn’t going to get this box, but ultimately decided to get it, and I got this variation. I love every single product that came to me, even the Highlighter, which is funny to me because when this Highlighter first launched, I thought it was a gimmicky product and had no desire to buy it. But I have it now, thanks to this box, and it’s beautiful!! All of these products are actually really amazing!!

I am shocked at how much I enjoy that weird jelly!

If I didn’t have to spend $50 a month already of Proactiv at age 29, I’d hit this box up. But looking like ill be stuck with a $50 acne med until I die.

When I already have & forced to do a 4+ step treatment everyday, don’t have room for anything else.

Envy thoughs who get to try anything whenever they want.

Any extra for me is an egg white mask or lemon juice with aspirin. Lol

Melissa

I try new stuff bc I’ve yet to find something that helps my skin problems

Tiffany,
Have you looked at Curology? There’s also Forhers but I think that curology is cheaper.

You may want to try the Perricone MD serum. It is 100$ for a 2 ounce bottle but it lasts a long time. I discovered it from my test tube beauty box. I have always had super problematic skin and adult acne, it cleared up within weeks of using the Perricone MD. Also now I can try other products without fear of my skin freaking out. 🙂

Sarah

Which Perricone MD serum? I have stubborn acne as well and would love to try.

Kathryn

Ugh, kicking myself for not getting this box!
Also, I love the new picture format. It makes for a really clean and together looking post.
