Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in 'Sanctuary', 0.22 fl oz - Retail Value $20.00

All subscribers will receive this item.

This is a really unique shade that is kind of like if coffee, cream, and lavender had a baby. I like colors like this, but I have to say it feels a little dark for spring and it might not have been the best shade to include in a starter box as not everyone will appreciate it. It had a velvety matte finish and wears for a really, really long time without getting as dry as most mattes I try.

Bang Beauty Eyeliner in 'Chocolate', 3.5 g - Retail Value $22.00

This is a variant item.

Oh boy. I feel like my pot of eyeliner has to have gotten a little dried out. This gel liner should have a pretty smooth texture but mine is rather chalky. The color is good, but the formula is not smooth at all, and not super pigmented. To give some background I always use Mac Pro Longwear Fluidline in 'Dipdown' when I wear eyeliner because it has a super smooth and easy to apply texture. I feel like this should have had that texture but it didn't.

Laura Geller Dew Dreamer Illuminating Drops in 'Gilded Honey', 0.5 fl oz - Retail Value $32.00

All subscribers will receive this item.

These liquid highlighter drops are super pretty. They look a lot more gold in the swatch below because I applied a ton to make sure it showed up in the shot, but you could easily blend these drops with your fave liquid foundation or BB cream and it would give such a pretty glow without being too overpowering. It would also be a great formula for adding a little shine to your legs and collarbones.

Top to bottom: Kat Von D Lipstick in 'Sanctuary', Bang eyeliner in 'Chocolate', and Laura Geller drops in 'Gilded Honey'.

IT Cosmetics Confidence in a Cream Transforming Moisture Super Cream, 2 fl oz- Retail Value $48.00

All subscribers will receive this item.

This cream was developed in tandem with plastic surgeons and a team of dermatologists to be an anti-aging and moisturizing powerhouse cream that would work for anyone. You might also remember seeing this cream in the last BoxyLuxe. Filled with skin loving ceramide complex, peptides, collagen, hyaluronic acid, and antioxidants, your skin will probably love it. You can use it as a night cream or under your makeup in the daytime. I tried it out for about 2 straight weeks and found that it did absolutely give me a nice glow, better skin texture, and helped my skin retain moisture throughout the day. I did not sleep in it because I really like a heavy duty night cream. The only thing I don't adore is the scent, which borders on citrusy to me, but that is a rather small gripe and didn't sway my decision to use it at all.

Tula Bright All Night Sheet Mask - Retail Value $24.00 (currently sold out)

This is a variant item.

These 10-minute masks are meant to give you a quick before-a-fun-night-out glow, which for me meant a quick before-I-watch-Netflix-for-3-hours glow. To each their own! I haven't really loved many holographic masks because they don't fit my face well and are usually stiff. This one is an outlier because while it is holographic (and beautifully so!) it is a patter of metallic dots over the mask itself, meaning it bends much better than the solid holographic options out there. The ingredients worth noting here are hyaluronic acid, probiotics, and citrus extract, all of which are great for your skin and certainly can add some healthy glow. I found the serum itself to be very lightweight and not sticky.

Verdict: Boxycharm generally sends a pretty solid box. Although some new customers might dislike getting a general "new subscriber" box, this one does have some great items and a good value of $146.00, great for a $21 box. The main selling point for me in this box is the $48 IT Cosmetics cream. I really like the formula and I think it would be especially great for someone who is in the 20s and wants to start trying out anti-aging products. I also liked the lipstick shade and the dew drops and can see myself using them in my routine. The masks were a pleasant surprise and I appreciate that they sent two. The eyeliner pot was the only truly low point in this box for me, but I wonder if mine was just dried out?

To Wrap Up:

  • Laura Geller Glow Drops $4.60
  • IT Cream $6.90

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

This box screams winter to me. I couldn’t use those products now in the heat where I live.

That Bang eyeliner probably is left over from the first time they sent it. It was dry then so I am not surprised it is this time. What a sad box this is. All leftovers. Boxy is struggling since Ipsy plus came out. I get emails, sometimes 2 a day, asking me to come back. I’m not.

Amanda

Same. Even for $4 more per month, Ipsy is still better. This month is even a sort of crummy month for me personally w/Ipsy GBP but I still prefer it over any Boxy box I ever got.

Michelle

I agree, not real thrilled with Ipsy glam plus this month either but still better than Boxy.

I received that eyeliner in August, and after a few tries it was one of the few products I have ever just thrown away. Not good then, probably worse now!!

Jodi

I threw it away also. It was totally dried out, I couldn’t even get it onto the eyeliner brush.

Ugh, that s sad to hear. I was hoping I was just unlucky.

I received two last year. I have one up for swap, and I didn’t mince words when it came to telling you how I feel. If I were Bang Beauty, I would get every pot of this crap and burn it, because it represents their brand, and it makes their brand look like a pile of stinky poop.

Christy

Great review Megan, I am always looking for the best night creams… what’s your favorite?

Megan K.

Ooooh this is a hard one Christy! I have super dry skin so I love something truly heavy. I also never really have bad reactions to things, which is a huge blessing. I tend to combine things on my face that someone with more sensitive skin might avoid. My usual night routine (when I am not trying other products) is one of two things:

1. Sunday Riley CEO oil then Sunday Riley CEO brightening serum, followed by Origins Drink Up sleep Mask. The oil and the serum together sometimes form an odd texture but I am sleeping so I don’t tend to mind.

2. Sunday Riley A+High-Dose Retinoid Serum followed by Amorepacific Youth Revolution mask (I have like three sample pots I have been very careful with. I cannot afford this one!)

Another brand I really love (without the insane price tag) is Laneige. Their Water Bank or their lavender sleep mask. Both are awesome and $35 or under.

Another brand/concept that recently caught my eye was Curology, which I have tried and liked very much because it is a custom blend that has RX tretinoin in it. For $20/month it is a great way to add a prescription level cream to your routine.

Hope this helps! <3

Thank Megan… appreciate your insight!!

I got that horrid eyeliner back in August. I think that’s the formula of it because mine was like a pot of dried out chalk too. August was not a good month for boxy at all lol

Same! That stuff is horrible. I know some people ended up using it on their brows and found it worked better there. Its too dark for my brows, but at least there is another way to use it – if its a close enough color match. I tossed it, personally.

Ashlea

Same. I had 2 of them and I won’t even gift the other one, it’s so bad.

Nan

Mine was the same. It was practically solid. I couldn’t even get any of it on my eyeliner brush 🙁

I know this is a starter box but, I got that eyeliner way back and it was dry then. I just don’t understand who said okay put that in, our subscribers will love it! But I’m watching, hoping boxy can reel me back in. It’s been about 7 months since I’ve subbed

I received this exact same variation. I signed up with a second email address to get this box because I love the IT cream and for $21 I really wanted a second jar. I pretty much agree 100% with your review. The glow drops were nice, the lipstick was WAY too dark, the masks were fun and my eyeliner pot was also dried out as was another friends who received the same one. I emailed BoxyCharm about it and they said to add a drop of oil and it should bring it back to life. I don’t wear brown liner so I am just going to pass this item on but if you think you will wear it, maybe give that A try!
