Heads up people-

I read on another site that Birchbox is counting the Winky Lux eyeshadow and Lux brush as two separate samples (instead of one) and are only putting 4 other items in the box. This sample should be counted as one so that you should get 5 more sample items in your box (they did promise 6 samples in the box in the email advertising June sample choice).

People are calling/emailing Birchbox for an extra sample or extra points.

So glad I canceled this month! I wasn’t paying $3 more for this. If they would’ve stayed at the $10 price point, maybe. And even then, too much hair stuff! There was no way I was subbing for a whole year. I can’t believe people are still falling for this box now that they had the audacity to raise the price just for adding one more sample to a box people were already not that thrilled with. I gave this sub a 9 month try and the only thing I thought was worth buying was their kits on sale.
One thing I think they did quite well was with their actual boxes. The box was less obvious and tamper proof through mailing. I wish more sub boxes did the same.

I have been trying to opt out of subscription renewal, hopefully it will take effect. I am canceling and not looking back. My cost would be $12 a box, but the products just don’t wow me. I am on serious product overload, so this is a good way to curb my spending.

The boxes are cute, but WHY DO THE CURATED BOXES ALWAYS HAVE MASCARA?

is it to dissuade people from getting too many in a row?

Dea

Interesting theory. It certainly works on me!

KAT

not worth the money for such tiny samples :/

I would love box 3. I love the cult and smith nail polish formulas. I noticed they didn’t specify the color though. I wonder if the color is a variable. A definitive way to get rid of old stock

My second choice is Birchbox x Out Magazine kit , love oribe everything.

I cancelled after last month, and have no FOMO at all. The boxes look okay, but considering the way the box choices sold out last month I’m not counting on being able to select the box I want. I have enough sample sizes stashed away to keep me for awhile anyway. Maybe I’ll see you in July BB! 🙂

I’m sorry if i sound negative but this new strategy is a win for birchbox. They get to increase their price by 50% (sorry bad at math), liquidate their old stock — and give the illusion of more choices to their subscribers all in one go. They’re killing it

Okay birchbox, I see you. Keep it up and I may be back. I haven’t had a birchbox in like 2 or 3 years

It has been nearly a year for me. I like being able to chose between various curated boxes… this is very tempting. I have been spoiled by FFF though. I wish I could chose 3 items for every box I subscribe to, then surprise me with the rest. Each of those boxes offers one item that really “wows” me but not so much the other items.

Reply ButtonReply

Rachel

Do you like FFF? It ALWAYS looks so good, tempting, & like it would be a great value. But I usually only want the fall & winter box. Do they show you some items that will be in the next box in time to cancel if you’re not interested? TIA

Poppy

None of the boxes excite me. Bummer. Box #3 or the Luxie brush/WL for me.

I’m afraid if I pick the single item, I’ll end up with a box of crappy tiny shampoo and conditioners.

Right, everytime I’ve pi ked a single item as my choice I had a ton of hair products, half by the same brand. Nothing good at all. I stopped picking an item and started choosing a curated box. If they weren’t sold out! Almost everytime I went to pick one it was sold out so early and I couldn’t get the one I wanted. I’m on my last box outta my 6 months and won’t be renewing it. Boxycharm and ipsy are only what like $10 more and full size products that are way better than anything I’ve gotten thru birchbox. I love that you get to choose but if the products are not that great it doesn’t matter. I’d love for boxy and ipsy to start letting people have 1 choice each month, that’d be great.

Omg exactly!!!!

Lori

WOW. These are the improvements they’ve been promising? Box #4 is all the same old stuff! The increase in choices and introduction of full sizes is nice, but am I the only one who thinks they are waaaayyy behind their competition? I hope they feature more brand variety going forward.

I’m leaning towards the Making Waves curated box. And, choice number 2 would be Winky Lux Eyeshadow in Frothy and Luxie Beauty Eyeshadow Brush. First, time since BB started making changes I’ve thought about choosing any of the individual samples. But, I am really hoping to snag making waves since the Butter eyeshadow colors are more interesting then the Winky Lux color. And, the fact the Smith & Cult nail polish is full-size and a very nice coral color has my peak interest.

Luna

Okay, I must be tripping or MSA updated this post after they originally posted (lol), because when I saw the post this morning, I was wondering where that full-size Smith & Cult polish was that was spoiled a week or two ago. After reading your comment, I went back to look, and now it’s there! My mom collects the Smith & Cult polishes, so even though the box isn’t exciting to me as a whole (I might keep only two items out of it) I’m still going to try to get this one for her. Fingers crossed!

Emily

Birchbox x Out Magazine box for me, I’ll use all of the items. Mac Prep and Prime is one of my favorite primers, Acure products agree with my skin, Benefit mascaras are nice, Murad eye cream yes please, and a thickening spray is actually one of the hair products I wouldn’t mind receiving.

T.Marie

Totally box 3.

Dorie

It’s Butter London Eyeshadow Duo …

Christine

I cancelled BB about a year ago. I am so glad I did. I check the spoilers each month to see if I want to subscribe and so many products are repeated! It is the same brands and the same products…as if they bought too much inventory upfront and/or the buyers are stagnating in creativity.

Bonnie

I have such a love/hate relationship with BB. I cancel for a year, I rejoin for a year and so it goes. I really think it’s the hair products that get me to cancel. I love trying new products, but for me, with really thick long hair, these tiny samples just aren’t enough. I always end up having to mix in other things to get my hair all the way done, especially conditioners. Then I’m not truly trying the product on its own.

Reply ButtonReply

Miranda J Brugger

So true. My last box has all hair products except for the 1 item I chose! It was ridiculous and made me decide to cancel. This is my last box from my 6 month sub. I have very thick long hair and all those hair samples I hardly get use of. Plus I got 3 from the same brand. Horrible box. The box I wanted was sold out when I went to pick it out.

Kim

I’m kind of new to Birchbox, what day do we get to choose our boxes?

Reply ButtonReply

Jackie

5/27 for aces, 5/28 for everyone else

Reply ButtonReply

Kim

Thank you!!

Luna

I’m leaning toward box #1 then box #3 as my 2nd choice.

Reply ButtonReply

Paula

Canceling. After the FIVE hair items I received last month because I couldn’t choose 2 of the 3 boxes, I was already ticked off enough to cancel. I already knew if they didn’t hit it out of the park, I was done. This was a complete strike…

Reply ButtonReply

Kimberly

Wow, same here. 5 hair items when every month I opt out of a hair item. This month I got 2 hair items, a perfume, and a repeat item. I thought I just had bad luck. It’s even worse to see that this happened to other people. That means it wasn’t a fluke 🙁

Reply ButtonReply

Miranda J Brugger

Yes, same here! That was ridiculous. Guess I wasn’t the only one. I got all hair stuff except 1 item I chose. It was ridiculous! I decided to cancel mine too. Not renewing my 6 month sub.

Reply ButtonReply

Jackie

The oribe thickening spray looks nice!

Reply ButtonReply

Em

I’m pretty sure I saw somewhere that they were going to have 5 curated boxes this month? I mean, these look interesting, but I’m wondering what happened to that. Maybe it was 5 options (sample choice, 3 curated boxes, and total surprise)?

Reply ButtonReply

Em

Oh, actually it’s on their website if you look at the June sneak peek. There’s a “Customer Favorites” box and a “Making Waves” box.

Reply ButtonReply

Lori

I couldn’t find that! The video on you tube though says “plus more” after showing these options. I wonder if that means they’re releasing more spoilers? Weird.

I do have to say this is only a mild improvement and not all the changes they’ve been promising. Anyone else, thoughts?

Dea

I’ll take the eyeshadow and Luxie brush sample choice. An eyeshadow brush is always useful.

Reply ButtonReply

Sarah

I’m leaning towards box #2 but curious what shade the lip topper is.

Reply ButtonReply

Marion

I’d pick either curated box #1 or the R+Co dry shampoo.

Winky Lux eye shadow is OK, but that’s one of the most boring possible colors to send.
