May 2019 BeautyFIX Review

This box comes with a booklet detailing each of the items included. We have 13 different items this month, so strap in!

Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Tencel Sheet Mask - Retail Value $3.00

So I didn't realize this mask was a two-part sort of deal and I initially thought I had somehow broken it when I pulled it out of the pouch! Thankfully, it is meant to be in two sections, one for your forehead and the rest of your face down to your nose, and the other for your lower cheeks and chin. The mask itself is made of Tencel, which is more of an open weave and fit really well. No real scent here, just a great, clear serum that left my skin glowing.

Dermstore Spa Headband - Retail Value $10.00

For how many sheet masks, clay masks, cream masks, and peels I use you might be surprised to find that I don't already own something like this headband. It is thicker and has a waffle texture, and you use the velcro on each end to securely set it in place around your head, keeping your hair back from the mask or cleanser of your choosing.

SkinMedica Total Defense + Repair SPF 34, 0.25 oz -  Estimated Value $7.39 (buy a 2.3 oz. bottle for $68.00)

Though I love sunscreen, I didn't adore this formula as much as I had hoped. I found it a little hard to rub all the way in, and my makeup wore very weirdly and unevenly over it during the day. I think it might be a better choice for those days where I go makeup free. Aside from the sunscreen, it is full of shea butter, making it very hydrating.

SkinCeuticals Glycolic 10 Renew Overnight, 4 ml - Estimated Value $6.40 (Buy a full size 50 ml for $80.00)

So I have a confession: whenever I get my hands on an acid formula, I always touch it with the tip of my tongue to see just how much acid we are working with. I know, weird, gross, and probably a bad idea, but I am weird and very curious. This stuff is POTENT! With a 10% glycolic and 2% phytic acid formula, this is an exfoliation powerhouse! Using this over time will promote cell turnover and help with fine lines and hyperpigmentation. Just be extra sure to adequately moisturize after usage and PLEASE wear sunscreen, because this makes your skin smooth, but very sensitive to sunlight.

Dermalogica Sound Sleep Cocoon, 0.34 oz -Estimated Value $16.00 (Buy a full size 1.7 oz for $80.00)

Even the name of this product makes me want to crawl into a warm bed and take a nice slumber. It smells so good! Imagine a gel cream that smells like a straight up lavender field with a little cedar in the background and you've got the idea. This night treatment is on the lighter side, meaning it probably isn't going to be heavy enough to join my rotation permanently, but for those nights I need a little extra help winding down this will be what I reach for.

Oribe Gold Lust Dry Shampoo, 1 oz - Estimated Value $7.67 (Buy 6 oz for $46.00)

As someone who really only shampoos her hair 2-3 times a week, dry shampoo is a staple in my routine. I generally reach for the cheaper brands, so this luxury dry shampoo feels like a real treat! I thought at first this formula might have some golden shimmer, but the gold lust is just part of the name, so no worries about glitter or shimmer. It smells really fresh and clean and left my hair feeling super fluffy and clean. Although I couldn't ever see myself spending this much money on dry shampoo, it was nice to try it out!

Alterna Caviar Anti-Aging Priming Leave-in Conditioner, 0.85 oz - Estimated Value $5.44 (Buy a full size 5 oz for $32.00)

I keep my hair routine pretty minimal, but I was still excited to try out this leave in conditioner. I have dry, coarse, and wavy hair, but I really love its natural texture and I don't aspire to silky strands. That being said, my hair can get really tangly and unruly! I liked this leave-in because it was easy to spray into my damp hair ends, tousle, and sleep on wet. In the morning my hair looked pretty much the same, but with less frizz and a little more gloss. I also tried squirting a little into my hands and running it through my dry frizzy hair. It absolutely minimized my flyaways and gave my mane a much more polished look without changing its texture.

NeoStrata Intensive Eye Therapy, 0.17 - Estimated Value $28.56 (Buy a full size 0.5 oz for $84.00)

This is a pretty thick eye serum that has a gel-like texture. It feels absolutely incredible on my skin and turns it to plump velvet! It has all the key ingredients to make undereye skin happy, including peptides, hyaluronic acid, and caffeine. A little went a long way, especially after a hydrating toner. This would be an extra incredible choice for those of us with super dry undereye skin.

AHAVA Dead Sea Water Mineral Hand Cream, 1.3 fl oz - Estimated Value $9.18 (Buy a full size 3.4 fl oz for $24.00)

This cream is super thick and pretty decadent! It has quite a strong scent but I like it, though I find it hard to describe. Kind of like a mix between lilies and water, but very perfumey. This cream absorbs almost immediately and leaves zero greasiness or film behind, which is quite impressive for such a heavy, nourishing cream.

Dermelect Microfacial Exfoliating Masque, 0.5 fl oz - Estimated Value $7.04 (Buy a full size 2.7 fl oz for $38.00)

This scrubby masque felt a little too rough on my forehead and cheeks, but I loved using it on the edges of my nose and my chin. The side of my nostrils get that gross buildup of dry skin and it looks really gross, especially under foundation. It worked on those extra dry areas really well and basically erased that extra dead skin. It is formulated with kaolin clay, which is likely why I didn't love it all over, but it also has coconut oil, which helps it not feel so stripping.

Smashbox Photo Finish Primerizer, 0.13 fl oz - Estimated Value $5.46 (Buy a full size 1 fl oz for $42.00)

This little vial of primer is so interesting! It is a liquid formula and spreads over the skin easily, bringing instant hydration and plumpness. Formulated with niacinamide and hyaluronic acid, this is a dry skinned gals new BFF! It gave my dull morning skin a boost of moisture and the texture of my skin was perfect for my foundation! I plan on buying a full size of this, especially since it just takes the tiniest bit to cover my entire face!

Tocca Giulietta Perfume, 1.5 ml- Estimated Value $2.28 (Buy 50 ml  for $76.00)

Tocca Cleopatra was my go-to perfume all throughout college. I loved the beautiful glass bottle and the fresh floral scent. I didn't really like this perfume, it was too fruity and sweet for me. If you love super feminine scents though, this might be something worth trying, especially if you enjoy notes of tulips, apples, and amber

skyn ICELAND Deluxe Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels, 1 pair - Estimated Value $3.75 (buy 8 pairs for $30.00)

These eye pads are actually quite dry compared to many I have tried. They felt like a gel sticker against my skin and the outer surface was almost like a suede-like fabric. I didn't notice a huge difference after using these but I think that might be because they were so dry, and my skin is already pretty parched.

Verdict: This $24.95 Beauty Fix box has an estimated value of $112.17, which is great! This is one of those boxes that has so many products and such variety, I am often hard-pressed to find new treats I don't enjoy! My faves this month would easily be the headband, glycolic overnight serum, the caviar leave-in conditioner, and the cocoon sleep gel. I can't say I really disliked anything this time! This is a great sub for trying our tons of new products from harder to find brands and a great value!

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

Update to my update …no may box yet

Update. I called beautyfix a nice young man answer the phone and I gave him my order number and informed him that I never did received the May box. He checked on it apparently mine was one of the boxes that were involved in a highway accident where the boxes were tossed all over the freeway and therefore lost. Also he has informs me that I will receive a new box immediately and apologize for the complete inconvenience. He also awarded me 1,000 points for the inconvenience. I was grateful for his kindness and attention to detail. I could not help myself but remarked that perhaps in the event of unforeseen accidents as such that happens they would be wise to send to a email inform their customers as to what is going on

This is weird reading your message, because the exact same thing happened to me months ago. How likely are the odds that a truck accident happened to their shipments? Maybe it happens a lot? Maybe BeautyFix is just unlucky. Anyways, all things considered, they were so nice and immediately shipped me a replacement box without any questions asked. Their customer service is always outstanding and lovely.

I first asked him are you trying to tell me that postal service truck was robbed he went on to say no that a the one truck one truck only that had all the beautyfix products had an accident and the packages were all over the street. Hilarious

May 3rd..!!!My box was “shipped” Tracking number exists…but NO movement….Wow..

My box also shipped and it moved with Newgistics, but they lost it before it got to USPS. Because it was shipping Ground, BeautyFix had me wait until last Friday (May 17th) to make sure it wasn’t just delayed, and then they reshipped. They were really responsive to emails and I got my box on Wednesday (May 22nd)! Haven’t tried everything so far but loving the hand cream! Can’t wait to try the night cream, but currently finishing up another night cream.
They were super easy to deal with and I really liked the fast email response times (since I don’t like to call)!

Diana

I called the 14 th they said to wait. I called the 16 th and they shipped me a new box with ups. Got it today. My first box has never moved. Label created the 5 th.

Twyla

USPS lost quite a large shipment, reach out to them on chat, they will reship it for you.

This box felt like super sample overload, I have 3 of the Ahava hand creams already, 2 primerizers and had the sleep cocoon but tossed it because it almost triggered a migraine just sniffing it! I hate the boxes with tiny samples because they are so small to begin with and there is normally barely enough for one application. The december box was so similar and last month they sent a ton of masks and more this month. Beautyfix needs to give it a rest on masks and physical exfoliators they send a bunch every month and it’s getting old especially sheet masks since they are cheap to begin with. They also need to stop sending skinmedica samples. The tubes are almost 90 percent air with barely any product in every sample they send. This box is way overvalued.

Deborah

At one time I liked BeautyFix but got tired of small half full samples. I Started getting Test Tube and Love it comes every other month

I still haven’t received my May box and have emailed them twice with no reply as of yet.
Thanks for the replies on here I have contacted them by chat and they are shipping out ASAP.

I also have not received my box. I sent them 3 emails regarding the status and I just got off the phone with customer service. It appears USPS lost ALL of Beauty Fix’s shipments. They are issuing new boxes and we should have them within 3 days. That’s really messed up of USPS! The customer service rep was baffled as to where they went. Anyway we should have them soon. Wew! They are usually pretty good about sending the box to use within the first couple of weeks.

Reply ButtonReply

Tammy Ikonen

I get a funny feeling that it was not the United States Postal Service did not lose all of the beautyfix products I mean come on was just simply one truck and I think that United States Postal Service would be really offended to know they’re being accused of this

Luna

I haven’t received my box yet either. 🙁 It’s been sitting in pre-shipment status since 5/6. I’ll still give it another week though. I’ve never not received my box before, and I’ve seen it where it’s been in pre-shipment status then magically show up on my doorstep. Fingers crossed I get this week!

Megan, I wanted to mention about the flaky skin around your nose. I’ve struggled with the same problem for years, and foundation always made it so much worse, like to the point I would have large flakes peel off, gross. I ended up seeing a dermatologist for an unrelated condition, and she told me it’s actually a fungal thing, just like dandruff. She gave me a fungal creme to use as needed, just the tiniest drop clears it within days. If I need a quicker fix, I exfoliate, and use a drop of anti-dandruff shampoo just right in that spot around my nose. Good luck!

I was initially bummed with the spoilers for this box…then it showed up. I’m loving the headband, not sure how I went this long without one now?! The cocoon was awesome , and I loved the eye gel. I think the hook with this box (for me) is trying products I would never normally consider. The last box got me obsessed with naturopathica face cleanser. Can’t say I would normally gravitate to an oat cleanser 😂 (experience elevated with headband)

Loving the new photo feature! Also loving BF has a lot of travel sized new products this month. Hope to see more Neostrata products.

Reply ButtonReply

Bella01

I’m loving the new feature with the pictures. I love it!

Sounds like I’m in the minority here, but unfortunately the past few boxes have been misses for me. I subbed to Beauty Fix a couple years ago, when there was always at least one full size item (usually more) plus a tool (brand name usually, not their store brand.) I resubbed recently when there was something in particular that drew me in, but I have to say I’ve been fairly disappointed. While technically the value is there, I generally prefer more than a tiny .1 oz sample (which frequently seems to be almost empty) in order to get an idea if I like a product or not…so I’ve pretty much ended just sending the samples along as extras with swaps. I’m glad many people are enjoying the samples. For me, I just ended up cancelling because compared to the BF boxes of the past, these have seemed really lacking.

Reply ButtonReply

Angela

I’m with u! Nothing gives me FOMO these days. It seems BF has gone “tiny” for good. I keep watching and waiting but they just keep at it.

Reply ButtonReply

Barbara

I hear you.😄
I subscribed on them those golden age too.
Now I don’t have any FOMO at all.
🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

I’m going to have to add more velcro to it to make it feel more secure but I’m really liking the headband. It’s way more secure than the other ones I’ve been using and feels like it will last a long time.

Looking forward to trying the glycol too. I’m using another 10% glycol night cream and my skin seems to really like it.

Nikkim

Mine leaked but barely! The cap wasn’t screwed on all the way. But I was wondering if anyone had this problem, sorry that happened to you.

Reply ButtonReply

Twyla

Thank you 🙂 i’m glad yours didn’t spill completely! I really was hoping to try it, but maybe another time. Hope it works well for you!

Megan K.

I second the headband praise. It is actually nice to get one that is so minimal design-wise too. I have a ton of weird quirky ones.

Reply ButtonReply

Jana

Yes – The headband is wonderful! I have used it when I masked my face and when gardening in the heat to soak up my sweat so it didn’t go in my eyes. It worked perfectly! It washed well afterwards too!

Also – that Ahava is great for my hands! I work in a hospital laboratory, so I wash my hands dozens of times a day. It’s a hand saver and I love the smell!

KatS

Yes about the designs. I realize my other headbands are supposed to be cute whereas this is all business, which may be why it works so well.

Twyla

I received my box, and unfortunately the cap on the leave in conditioner wasn’t screwed on and it leaked all over the box. At least all that was ruined was the booklet and the conditioner. Bummed though, I am always looking for good hair products for my dry curls. I washed off the rest of the items, and put the headband through the wash, so at least i salvaged the rest of my box.

I can say at least that the headband washes well in cold water! LOL

Reply ButtonReply

julia

You should absolutely contact them. My experience with their customer service has been outstanding and they have a chat window on their website. My box was missing the hand lotion and I contacted them by chat and had another on the way within minutes.

Reply ButtonReply

KatS

My experience with their customer service has been really good. I’d contact them for a replacement and send in a pic if you have one.

Reply ButtonReply

Twyla

Shoot, I didn’t think to take a picture, I just cleaned up the mess and salvaged all but the conditioner.

Thank you for the advice, I will reach out to them and see if I can get a replacement. 🙂

Anne

Megan, I have dry, coarse, and wavy hair. Can you share what hair products have been effective for you in managing it?

Reply ButtonReply

Megan K.

I am super minimal! I actually really love my crazy hair and don’t so much besides shampoo and condition it. I only brush it wet (which is a huge no-no, but oh well!) when I have a big knot. There are some days when it is just too fluffy though, and on those days I like to use a hair oil but only on my ends or a light cream (also ends only). My current faves are Sahajan Ayurvedic Blend Nurture Hair Oil (a gift from Marne’s Organic Bunny review) or any cream by R+Co. That hair oil is expensive, but what no one really talks about is how literally ANY oil can work in hair. If I am ever caught without, I will just reach for anything oil-heavy nearby, and just use sparingly. I have even used an oil cleanser in my hair before as an in-a-oinch flyaway treatment beaue oil is oil and it still works! R+Co creams are lightweight and always smell great. I always use product on dry hair only.

*LOVE* the new format for pictures…so great! Thanks!

Reply ButtonReply

Melissa

Love the new format!

I loved this box! I love getting lots of samples. This way I can try a lot of products. So far I love everything. Ahava has been my staple hand cream for years, so I was thrilled to get this as well.

Reply ButtonReply

Jamie

I’m kind of embarrassed to admit that the product that swayed me into resubscribing is the spa headband. I haven’t been able to find a cloth headband that will actually stay on my head so I always get bits of mask touching some of my hair. This headband looks perfect.

Reply ButtonReply

Dawn

I am actually considering ordering just for the headband as well. I love the velcro so my head won’t feel squeezed. I did that exact same taste test with a Ordinary peel product I bought last week. If it burns my tongue, it is going to hurt my face. Pain was confirmed with the taste test. But I used it anyway. Great peel, but it has been reduced to using on the back of my hands.

Reply ButtonReply

Luna

I totally agree with Christy 🙂 I think it was the latest Beauty Report box that came out where that despite all of the full-size products that were included, it was actually the sample pack of the Koh Gen Do cotton pads that grabbed my attention first! 😀

Reply ButtonReply

Jamie

Yes! Practical items are so, so appreciated. I love it when boxes send items that can be used to enhance the use of other things they send. In this case the headband makes it easier for me to use the mask and to apply product to my face without getting it in my hair. I have very curly hair and it just springs out and over the other fabric headbands I’ve used, so I have curls touching my forehead and the side of my face. This one seems like it will prevent that.

Megan K.

it is a really good headband!

Reply ButtonReply

Jamie

Awesome! I was glad to see you liked it. Your review definitely swayed me.

Christy

Hey girl, no shame. You do you!

Reply ButtonReply

Jamie

Thanks! I felt kind of silly about not being swayed by the awesome skincare products but it really was the headband that won me over. I have voluminous, bouncy curls and every single fabric headband I’ve tried hasn’t been able to keep the curls from springing down and touching my face. Metal/plastic headbands keep my curls in place but then I have an indentation in my hair all day.

Christy

This box was gold to me. I have to admit, I love receiving samples in my boxes so that might be why I feel so happy about receiving this one. Still in the process of trying everything. I’ve been using Dermalogica every night. So nice. Also love the smell of the hand cream. So moisturizing for my hands too. I got the same cream in another box. Happy to have 2 of them now.

tammy g

i got this box, called them and told them that there last two boxes were no good…they sent me a free box and gave me my money back…and said next month is looking good..will see.

Tara m

I have to agree these small samples are just too hard for me to see if I want to invest in the product. I end up not even using them and feel like I’m wasting my money ….hoping next
Month is better or definitely gonna have to cancel. So happy for the people who enjoyed it tho!

Reply ButtonReply

TK

Thanks for the great review! I love that you show the consistency of the products. It really helps me decide which products to keep and which to pass along. My combination/oily skin doesn’t love heavier products especially in the hot, humid summer months.

Reply ButtonReply

Heather

I cancelled because I’m on product overload, but your review made me sad that I had! Some great stuff this month.

Also, I LOVE the new format for the photos! Great update!

Same, on all counts.

I loved the new way you posted the pictures for each product together so it didn’t make the review seem too long. Well done. Thanks.

This will be my first box that I am not SUPER excited about, don’t get me wrong a lot of good products but quite a few I have already received in different subscription boxes.

Reply ButtonReply

Michele

I love beautyfix and I am enjoying this box. I was curious to read your review, especially on the hand cream. I love the brand but the smell of this cream is so strong to me. And the smell is similar to bug spray, to me. I love how well the cream works. Unfortunately, i cant use it at night when i go to bed, like i like to. The smell gives me a headache. Sadly, the scent lasts a very long time. Which I guess if you like the scent, would be great.

Love your review. Thank you

Reply ButtonReply

katie

To me this scent is horrible. It smells rancid. I know its me and not the hand lotion, but funny how different scents smell to people. It’s a shame because it does work well.

Reply ButtonReply

Diana

I have love ahaha hand cream in any scent but this one, the formula is great but all white tubes go to my sister!

Reply ButtonReply

Lori H

I’ve been using it on the bottom of my feet when I go to bed. I wake up with soft feet and don’t have to worry about the strong scent.

Reply ButtonReply

Luna

I love the new picture layouts! It makes viewing the review a lot more enjoyable, rather than scrolling, scrolling, scrolling, my way through the pictures. 🙂

Megan, I gotta ask… since you said the Skinceuticals is potent, did you come to that determination because it burned your tongue? 😀 … or was it the % of acids that was listed?

I still haven’t received my box yet, but I’m really looking forward to it. I’m one of the few that actually got excited when I saw this month’s box was chock-full of samples. I’m a weirdo in that I get just as excited over samples (even packet samples) just as much as full size products! lol

Reply ButtonReply

Megan K.

The % was a giveaway but I am a weirdo and always taste anything that says it is a strong acid. This is in no way scientific 😀

Reply ButtonReply

Luna

You’re too funny 😀

TK

I’m like you…I love all the samples! If I don’t love something, I won’t continue to use it so I feel very wasteful tossing a full size product. Sometimes I can pass it to my mom but she’s not a skincare addict like I am.

Reply ButtonReply
