I really enjoy this brand, and my mom is hooked on it too! It is a great sleeping mask and also makes a nice daily moisturizer, though it is heavier. It has a clean light scent and is velvety smooth. This formula is full of minerals such as zinc, potassium, calcium, and manganese which help replenish depleted and dry skin and creates a very effective moisture barrier. The full size is only $35 which makes this a super affordable cream with as many benefits as some of the higher priced power players out there.

I love anything from this brand. It is one of my absolute favorites! I actually just finished out on this exact same sample and though I could sing its praises all day, I cannot afford to buy the full size. This little sample really does last quite a while and I highly recommend this formula to anyone with dry skin. I like to apply it right before bed after toning and in the morning my skin is so supple and smooth! This brand always includes green teas in their formulas which probably explains why I love them so much and find them so effective.

This completely wearable nude shade is a breath of fresh air from the dark, matte, lipsticks of fall. All hail spring! This color works really well on my fair skin, though it is so sheer and wonderfully glossy I can't imagine it not working for most people. It has a slight vanilla scent and is thick but not super sticky. It would actually work very well alone or over any other shades. This will be a spring staple for me.

Model Co Eyelite in St. Bart's - FULL SIZE Retail Value $12.00

I feel like metallic eyeshadows are having a moment as I have gotten similar formulas in a few beauty boxes recently. I like the trend, especially when the formula is slightly sheer and can be used as more of a wash than an opaque shadow. Don't get me wrong, you can build this baby up to an almost chrome finish, but I prefer using a wee bit then buffing it out with a fingertip or a brush to give a sheer sparkling lid look. This particular rose gold shade could also easily be used as a highlighter, but with the quick dry time, blend quickly!

St. Tropez Self Tan Purity Water Gel, 24 ml - Estimated Value $5.28 (Buy a full size 200 ml here for $44.00)

(Subscribers will receive this or the St. Tropez Self Tan Purity Bronzing Water Face Mist)

I am very, very fair and I have basically given up on self-tanning products because the look is usually orange or uneven. I was really skeptical of this product, but for the sake of the review, I figured I would self-tan one leg then compare. This formula says it develops in 3 hours, but I found it took a little longer. The effect was so subtle that I was a little disappointed, expecting a dramatic orange. The good news is that this is an absolutely viable option for anyone out there with a very fair skin tone because the result was so very subtle. The tropical smell is also to die for and I didn't notice any of that typical "self-tanner" smell, though my legs are rather far away from my nose.

Left is my natural tone, right is with this product. I stopped right above my ankle and you can clearly see a distinct line of color change.

I feel the need to mention that this product isn't something everyone would want or need to use. I would like this sort of thing to be optional in future boxes so it doesn't feel like a wasted item for some subscribers.

Allure Beauty Box May 2019 review tanning mit in bag

St. Tropez Self Applicator Mitt - Retail Value $6.50

(Subscribers will receive this only with the above St. Tropez Self Tan Purity Bronzing Water Gel.)

This mitt is likely why my self-tanning application was as even as it was. This mitt is a lifesaver! It also saves your hands from turning orange, which is always a win. Simply put your product onto your skin or the mitt and use it to apply. It is hand washable and dried very quickly, meaning you can use it over and over again.

Lastly, we received a very unique powder cleanser. This is a 3 ingredient formula, containing oat flour, milk powder, and magnesium carbonate. You add water to the powder, make a paste, apply and let it dry on your skin for about a minute, then rub off in small circles. It felt very spa-like and holistic, though I admit that I didn't notice much of a difference after using it.

Verdict: This box has a value of about $92.38! That is a great value for a $15.00 box. Allure tends to deliver! I also think this box was very well rounded and had a ton of variety. My favorite items would be the Amorepacific cream, the Laneige cream, and the lip gloss. I also really enjoyed the liquid eyeshadow. The self-tanner and the mitt really made me want to try self-tanning again since this formula was so subtle. The powdered cleanser felt great but I didn't find it that effective. Even with that I thoroughly enjoyed this box and felt like it had a ton of fun items in it.

I am on the fence about Allure. I did receive almost the same products that Megan did in her review. My variation from her’s was the St. Tropez Purity Self Tanning Water Mist. It worked well, I have a fair skin tone and it gave me a tan look without looking orange. It wasn’t streaky and I sprayed it on my face, neck and part of my chest and shoulders. I thought not doing that would make me look kind of weird since just my face would be tan. It faded evenly. I love AmorePacific, so I was happy with that. The facial scrub was just kind of meh. Laritzy seems to be in almost every one of Allure’s boxes. I am not a fan of the newer bags they send. First off, they smell like plastic, which I guess is to be expected. The first few bags had snaps, those were okay, not great. The May bag was a cute color but the closure strap ripped off on the one end. In other words, they’re kind of cheap looking. I’d rather Allure do something better for the environment and either send the products in a box made out of recycled paper or a bag similar to what Ipsy does. I almost rather the old red boxes they used to have,. I did contact their customer service because I wanted to cancel a couple of months ago and never heard back. If I remember correctly, I think I’ll have to call them. I wish they had an option on their website to cancel or renew. They do have some good products and I have found a few favorites, but overall, I don’t know that I will keep subscribing. Customer service is important to me. It says a lot about a company if they respond promptly and in a way that solves the issue. It means they value their customers, or in this case, subscribers. I went from four beauty subscriptions to just one. This was about a year ago. I may go back to Ipsy Glam Bag Plus, but don’t think I will keep with the Allure.

Thanks to those who posted the CS number, for easy reference. I’ve been with Allure for almost 5 straight years, but receiving 2 lousy hair sheets worth $2.40 instead of the $32 sample of Amore is the last straw for me. I’m furious, and I’ll be canceling.

The variation thing is bad enough (it sucks), but the price disparity between items is absolutely ridiculous. And I don’t want to have to call every month to request the better item, even if they do send it. That’s stupid. Heck, they could’ve sent the full size box of the anti-frizz sheets ($18), and it still would’ve been worth less than the sample size of the Amore. And apparently, Allure couldn’t care less. Their cutesy email response that some people posted was insulting. This box has crashed and burned IMO. I’ll spend my money elsewhere.

I had paused May with Allure, but then I got weak and re-activated through Amazon. I received the exact same as the reviewed box. I love the Laritzy lip gloss. I am glad to see that the new bag appears to have reinforced seams. That should help with the complaints. Happy orange color too! I have used the Lue before. I apply it 5 minutes before getting in the shower and then I rub it off in the shower. Otherwise there is a mess all over my bathroom sink. This product works like Saturday Skin. It really gets into the pores. I am not sure why it isn’t full, but I imagine that it is 2oz., as indicated. I don’t know if I will risk the tan stuff… I don’t trust myself to exfoliate enough to not mess it up. I will definitely try the eyeshadow, even though I don’t wear it often. Such a pretty color! I am also in the minority of feeling that this box was a winner. I will be pausing the Huda box. I guess I like the boxes that are curated without the internet influencer collaborations. The Sunday Riley box and this box are my winners so far this year.

I just got mine yesterday, after it sat in some shipping center twenty miles from my house for LITERALLY NINE DAYS. I’d called Allure the day before to report it as lost, because USPS told me they were probably never going to get it, and I’m being sent a replacement.
I’m hoping the replacement has an Amore Pacific in it, instead of these dumb hair sheets that are useless on wavy hair.
And can we please not have any more nude lipsticks or tanning products? A lot of pale people and people of color can’t/don’t do either.
This gloss amazingly actually works on me, because it’s pretty sheer and pinkish, but that color last month was the most disgusting color I’ve ever put on. I looked like a rotting corpse.

Reply ButtonReply

em

I feel like the minority here, but I’m pretty pleased with this month’s box (I even got the frizz sheets). Would have I been happy with AmorePacific Item? Absolutely. But then I looked at the full sized products and holy crap! What if I really liked these products and wanted to buy the full sized – I wouldn’t be able to drop $150-200 on a single item.

I get it, I subscribe to boxes because they include products I wouldn’t normally buy myself (tanning products, single shadows, etc). But I also appreciate getting items I can reasonably afford if I liked them enough.

I think everyone forgets this is a $10-15 sub box.. For what I got, I still got more than double the value of what I paid. I totally get the variants suck and they should totally do variants that are equal/similar in value or not do them at all.

I think Allure is giving you guys at MSA bad information- in this review it says we will receive one of two AmorePacific products. Well, there are a bunch of us who got two tiny foil packets of frizz sheets instead. That’s about a $30 discrepancy between advertised value and actual value. I also didn’t get the Hello Fresh gift card.

Reply ButtonReply

Susan

Oh man, I received the frizz sheets in my box too. I emailed them about it, along with the discrepancy with the powder cleanser size. This is their response:

Dear Subscriber:

Thank you for contacting Allure Beauty Box.

Allure Editors identify so many great products and we wanted to assemble a few collections for this month’s box. The various boxes were sent out randomly to our customers. We encourage you to share any items you will not use with a friend or swap on any social media swap sites. We hope you enjoy next month’s box.

If we can be of further assistance, please let us know. To ensure your future concerns are handled in a timely fashion, please include all previous e-mail correspondence.

When you go to sign up it states you will receive an amorepacific item. I would complain again. So tired of their bait and switch.

I got the same canned, generic response. I was so irritated about getting an item worth $ .36 versus $32. The anti frizz sheets is such crap compared to the Amorepacific item. Allure did not care that they have upset subscribers.

To all those who didn’t receive the Anastasia lip gloss last month, be glad. It is the ugliest shade I’ve ever seen. It wouldn’t look good on ANYONE. I find any time I get an Anastasia product, the color is butt ugly like they can’t sell them so they’re trying to get rid of them through sample boxes.

I also got the frizz hair sheets and no Amore Pacific. Called and cancelled. The boxes are too inconsistent. Some good (like January with the Sunday Riley products), but many junk products like this and tanning products. I was already planning on cancelling after I saw the full spoilers for June (wouldn’t use anything in that box), but the Amore Pacific issue was the clincher.

Agreed with everyone else on the terrible Anastasia lip color from last month. Nude is over. Let’s move on to more human looking lip colors.

FYI the CS number is 1-800-274-1603

Called and canceled tan products ugly lip shade (on me) and no Amorepacific last straw may resubscribe if they get any better

Canceled for the EXACT same reason. This box was a bust and so was last month’s. The June spoilers confirmed it’s not getting any better. Allure used to be such a reliably good box.

Rena

Can anyone tell me how to reach Allure’s CS? I’m happy with my very first box, but I got charged twice for it, the 2nd time 3 days after the first. On the website it only refers to the 2nd charge. And I can’t find any way to reach them. Thank you!

Reply ButtonReply

Barbara

You can call them at 800-247-1603.

Reply ButtonReply

Rena

Thank you!😊

Kathryn

So why did I receive frizz sheets if all subscribers either receive one of two Amorepacific items…? I am majorly disappointed in this months box. Not only did we get another tanning item, there was major discrepancy in boxes between the frizz sheets and Amorepacific items. Variations are ok, but be transparent with them! Don’t send me a booklet that makes it look like everyone received these frizz sheets.

Reply ButtonReply

Jenn

I got the frizz sheets too. This box was the most disappointing box I’ve gotten from allure in a long time. The exfoliating powder bottle wasn’t sealed and was only about 60% full – which it looks like the one in the review here was only that full also, but it seems weird to get a product like this and also that it wasn’t even mentioned in the review.

Reply ButtonReply

Dinah

I received my box yesterday. According to my little booklet, I wasn’t even supposed to receive any Amore Pacific product so that spoiler for any variation was only for some lucky boxes. I also got the water gel tanner. On my light skin it is patchy orange and I can still smell that fake tanner scent lol. I truly hate the eyelites shadow. It flakes off the eyes and doesn’t look smooth. I gave it a fair shot with bare eyes, glitter glue and eye shadow primer. My exfoliating powder was 2/3 full. I like the gloss, cream and frizz sheets.

Reply ButtonReply

Punkykiki

Ok, original post didn’t print and that was over 24 hours ago. For what reason?

To summarize:
Subbed for four years without ever canceling or working the system for new sub gifts. Ordered from Allure and not Amazon.

April: got John Freida instead of ABH lippie.
May: Tan & mitt
LaRitzy with box torn open
Laneige tube
Lue cleanser HALF WAY FULL
Model Co eyeshadow
And two fabulous hair frizz sheets

And just like last month, how are they sending the products to the people who call? Why not just send it in the first place?

Hey MSA, how about contacting Allure with all of these issues? They are obviously putting you at risk by using your site to promote what they are selling. The last two months have been blatant bait and switch for A LOT of your readers.

Reply ButtonReply

Cheryl S

Just cancelled as well after months of crummy shipping and damaged product; no ABH lippie just old product; and yeah–I’m in the frizz sheet crowd. Email customer service and got a canned response about they try but just can’t appeal to everyone. Well, when your own website shows a possibility of among 3 amorepacific products and you send $2 worth of frizz sheets to us lucky customers, it’s a matter of bad business–not appeal.

Reply ButtonReply

CS

Same here, subbed for 2 years, never cancel to get the new member gift, never complained until the last two months with the John Freida and the frizz sheets. It is ridiculous! On the allure page they’re advertising the box including Amore Pacific and on their Facebook they are advertising AP in the box. It seems like the people who are getting crap variations are long time subscribers who go directly through Allure. So much for rewarding consistency.

Reply ButtonReply

Kristin

Long time subber and got crappy hair last month but I did get the ap this month.

Barbara

Same here. Subbed since July 2016. Got frizz sheets now and no ABH lipstick last month. Called them today after opening my box. Supposedly they will be sending me Amorepacific.

Finally got my box today, after it finished gallivanting around the Midwest.

This is basically the box I got, except I got the Amore Pacific Moisture Bond cream. I’ve sampled it before and it’s very nice, but even with the coupon $125 (approx) is too expensive.

Tried and discarded the Laritzy. It basically looks like a clear gloss on me, and I already have several. Plus, I despise the smell of coconut.

I may try the face spray at some point, but I will have to research it.

Allure sent me an email asking for a review, and in the final comment section I begged them in capital letters with exclamation points to not send any more black liners or nude lips.

Hopefully, they’ll listen.

Reply ButtonReply

Kay

I subscribe directly from Allure and received almost identical box. Amore Pacific was the same, but the tanning product was facial spray. I don’t use tanning product, but I was willing to try with the mitt for legs. And my face is slightly darker than the neck/body, so I won’t be using it, hope to gift it. Allure is always worth the cost of the box to me, of course some months are better than the other, but I agree that recently it feels less exciting when the spoiler comes out… those plastic bags are not good for environment and they should focus on sourcing out more exciting, new to market products…

Reply ButtonReply

Kim

I did not get the amorepacific I got 2 of those stupid hair towelettes that will be useless on my naturally curly hair.

Reply ButtonReply

Alanna

Me too. Usually, I’ll give boxes a pass if a variation is at least reasonable, but after subbing for 3 years at full price and not getting the ABH item and now no AP item, I feel my loyalty is not appreciated. All these people who go to cancel get a better price than me and I’m sure many of them got the ABH and AP products. It’s not their fault, its Allure’s. I know Allure really doesn’t care and there are always plenty of new subscribers so my voice doesn’t matter in the long run, but at least I get to rant here and maybe hope they read it.

I just got my box today, and I was wondering if the Jason Seo powder cleanser is supposed to not be full. It looks like it’s only half way full? Is this normal. My box arrived with a green sticker on it that said it arrived open so I’m just wondering if it’s been tampered with or something.

Reply ButtonReply

Helen

I already had this product from a different box, and it wasn’t full then either. It might be that the powder settled during shipping, or they don’t have a smaller, sample size container.

Reply ButtonReply

Retpunzel

Mine was halfway. I weighed the powder and it’s 26.56 grams. It’s supposed to be 56 grams. Why advertise full sized if it’s not. Also mine didn’t come with that sticker or a safety seal. I’m honestly wondering if they split the powder up to save on costs.

Reply ButtonReply

Pink5

Mine came mostly full, but that was probably because it spent more time than usual jouncing around in Postal Service vehicles.

Reply ButtonReply

Luna

It looks like all (if not, most) of the bottles they sent this month are half full. 🙁 Was yours through Amazon or Allure? I don’t know if it’s all boxes from both or only the boxes from one or the other.

Reply ButtonReply

Rachel

I had the same issue. I called, and the CS rep was super sweet and had it ordered to be shipped to me. $32 value for an advertised item traded out for a set of frizz sheets and a tanning mitt totaling less than $8 is quite a difference, and she made it right.

Also, I had her make note that the Lue powder weighed 2 oz in the container…net weight refers to the product without the container. Someone forgot to tare the scales when they were dispensing…

Reply ButtonReply

Retpunzel

Pretty much. I weighed my powder and it’s 26.56 grams. Less than half of the advertised 56 grams 🤦🏻‍♀️

Jacki

I got this also. $30 less in value is NOT acceptable! A $2 substitute for amour pacific wtf allure?

I am not gonna lie ordering my box from Amazon is amazing. I probably won’t received random free yearly gifts for being a subscriber for a long time but I get my box very quickly after I put order it. Cancellation is so easy and ordering another subscription box for my favorite month is just as simple. Allure is one of my favorite beauty boxes for years. Always deluxe or full size high end skincare items are the bomb. ❤

Christina

LB – Same. I didn’t get an Amore Pacific product either. Just two frizz sheets. However, the booklet doesn’t say anything about Amore Pacific.
Also, the Laneige tube I got is nearly empty! There isn’t a spill so it’s obvious that it was meant to be that way. This is so strange. Laneige should’ve opted out because this isn’t a good look.

Michelle

I didn’t get the Anastasia lip product in my April box, which was just delivered last week, and I got one hair towelette instead of the Amorepacific. Just called customer service and they are sending me the Anastasia and I got to chose which Amorepacific product I wanted. Both with ship Friday!

This is why I have been a loyal subscriber to Allure, their customer service is amazing.

Celeste

Just got my box today, I received the Amore Pacific youth revolution and the tanning face mist, otherwise all items are same as this review. I would never use tanning stuff on my face, was really hoping for the body one with the mitt. Has anyone ever uses the face mist on your body instead, like your legs?
