April 2019 Target So Fresh, So Clean Beauty Box Review

So Fresh So Clean April 2019 - Info 1 So Fresh So Clean April 2019 - Info 2

Here is the info sheet for the box.

So Fresh So Clean April 2019 - Grapefruit 1 So Fresh So Clean April 2019 - Grapefruit 2

Yes to Grapefruit Vitamin C Glow-Boosting Peel Off Mask – Retail Value $2.99

This mask was a no for me. I try to stay away from peel-off masks in general because they can actually damage your pores, but the real deal-breaker for me was that ethyl alcohol was the third ingredient on this mask. The ingredients that would be beneficial like grapefruit extract and Ascorbic Acid were at the end of the list, which means the concentration is low compared to the amount of alcohol in this mask.

So Fresh So Clean April 2019 - Body Wash

Every Man Jack Sandalwood Body Wash, 3.2 oz – Estimated Value $1.09 (buy the 16.9 oz version for $5.79)

Every Man Jack describes this scent as "masculine sandalwood," but I am very comfortable in my femininity and I still love the scent of sandalwood- so let’s call it unisex. The sandalwood scent was great, and the added benefits of glycerin and castor oil kept this from being a drying body wash.

So Fresh So Clean April 2019 - Cotton

Up&Up Premium Cotton Rounds, 2 rounds – Estimated Value $0.07 (Buy a pack of 100 for $1.99)

Really Target? Two cotton rounds were the best you could do? They’re cotton rounds, they performed like regular cotton rounds. From a logistics standpoint, I think it would have made more sense to include these in the Bloom Into Beauty box because that box had a toner and this box doesn't have anything that necessitates using cotton rounds. The worst part, by far, is the “tip” that the info sheet provides with these rounds. It says “Don’t let the excess serum from your sheet mask go to waste! Soak it up with cotton rounds, then apply under eyes for a more targeted treatment.” This box didn’t come with a sheet mask, and I do not recommend trying to soak up the excess product from a peel off mask with cotton.

So Fresh So Clean April 2019 - Dry Shampoo

Dove Dry Shampoo Volume & Fullness, 1.15 oz – Retail Value $0.99

I found this dry shampoo to be a bit more drying than I like for my hair- so if you have an oily scalp, this may be an affordable option for you. I do think it added a touch of volume to my roots, but it wasn’t anything to write home about.

So Fresh So Clean April 2019 - Shampoo

Dove Derma Care Dryness & Itch Relief Shampoo, 1.8 oz – Estimated Value $0.73 (buy the 12 oz version for $4.89)

My scalp gets dry pretty easily, and I use a lot of lotions and potions to try and keep my scalp healthy and flake-free. This shampoo wouldn’t replace any of my current products, but I did think it did a good job of soothing my scalp.

Verdict: I don't know who curated this box, but they took a wrong turn somewhere along the way. This felt like a random mishmash of products that didn't go together, and to add insult to injury this box included two cotton rounds as an "item." The worst part, however, is that the value of this kit doesn't even meet what the cost was- this box costs $7, and it has a total value of $5.86. Plus, unlike the other in-store Target boxes, this one did not even come with a coupon. I love you Target, but this was not your best work.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? This box is only available in-store, so I recommend giving your local Target a call.

Value Breakdown: At $7 for this box you’re paying $1.40 per sample.

It has been a long time since Target 🎯 has included some makeup in the box’s. Most of item lately, you can just go to their “travel isle” and pick up the same stuff in the Beauty Box’s. So sad. Step it up Target you have too competition these days to have such lackluster boxes.

I admit that I bought all this months boxes. Why? Because I want to be able to leave a review about how bad these boxes are! They don’t seem to be hearing us any other way, so I bit the bullet and I’m going to try to get through to them via their own review system. Wish me luck!

I don’t understand though – doesn’t the Target site let you write a review if you didn’t buy?

I was happy to read your comment, because when I read the conclusion of the review I noticed that the main critique of this box was its curation & value, and I couldn’t help but wonder why this box was purchased in the first place to review since the products were already known (and hence, probably the lack of value) so it almost seemed like it was bought already knowing the box was going to get a poor review. That was just my first thought when I finished reading it. But who knows… it could have been bought because there was a new product that seemed intriguing?

Gosh, how horrible. I don’t understand why Target beauty boxes keep getting worse and worse.

Is ethyl alcohol bad?

Found this online:
Among the specially denatured alcohols acceptable for use in various cosmetics are SD Alcohol 23-A, SD Alcohol 40, and SD Alcohol 40-B. The term “Alcohol Denat.” … You also may see a dual declaration, such as “SD Alcohol-40 (Alcohol Denat.). As for the good guys (with a few caveats) there is cetyl, stearyl, cetearyl.

These boxes are just silly. Target would be better off making them free with another beauty purchase. And enough with the wasteful cardboard boxes for a few tiny items.

I was just at Target this morning, and I don’t know if it’s new at my Target since I don’t shop there too often, but I just happened to be there last weekend & this weekend, and both times they had a table set up with quite a few different samples that anyone could just come up to and take. I’ve never seen that before at my Target, so I was a bit shy of taking any last weekend for fear that they weren’t really free, but this weekend I thought I’d see what it’s all about (is this all really free?!?), and the lady encouraged me to take whatever I wanted, so I ended up taking one of each thing, and some of the items was the Burt’s Bees toothpaste that was in the naturals box, the Bliss rose cleanser that was in another box, and the Love, Beauty & Planet (I think the brand’s called) lavender body lotion from yet another box. The other samples I don’t recall as being in boxes though. Now I finally got to experience what others have been saying about all of the free samples they can get at Target so they just skip the boxes. Haha!

I remembered the good old days when target boxes had so much value compared to the $5 it costs to buy them. Clearly those days are long gone. They are now more Oprah boxesque.

Loved this honest review! I appreciated you explaining your reasoning for going hard on the cotton rounds. Makes sense to me. They don’t fit in this box at all.
