April 2019 Target Beauty Box "April Showers" Review

This info card provides a short description of each item sampled and on the flip side a Target coupon good for $3 off a beauty purchase of $15 or more. Like in last month’s box, this month’s coupon looks a little different than previous months; you have to download the Target app to scan your coupon, then it should show up in your digital wallet to use at checkout.

Moving on to Target’s refreshing beauty picks!

Target Beauty Box April 2019 - TIGI Bed Head After Party Smoothing Cream FrontTarget Beauty Box April 2019 - TIGI Bed Head After Party Smoothing Cream Back

TIGI Bed Head After Party Smoothing Cream, .24fl oz - (Buy 3.4oz here for $9.99)

I was a little disappointed by the size of this packet sample, especially after I smelled the product inside; it smells beautiful! Usually I am hesitant to try cream products in my fine hair for fear that it will fall flat, but I smoothed a pea-sized amount to the mid-length and ends of my damp hair, and I was surprised at the shine it gave. I curled my hair after air drying and, while it is not necessarily a styling cream, it held my waves and kept frizz at bay until the next day. Not bad!

Target Beauty Box April 2019 - Soap & Glory Puffy Eye Attack Under-Eye Brightening Hydrogel Patches FrontTarget Beauty Box April 2019 - Soap & Glory Puffy Eye Attack Under-Eye Brightening Hydrogel Patches Back

Soap & Glory Puffy Eye Attack Under-Eye Brightening Hydrogel Patches, 1 pair - Retail Value $4.49

I don’t suffer from puffy eyes, but I know somebody who does! My bae, Ryan, wakes up and goes to bed with puffy eyes. I let him be a guinea pig for a few products this month, and he was eager to fill me in on the details. These eye patches stayed in place without sliding around, and they smell (very lightly fragranced) like a cucumber spa treatment. After a half hour of wear, he removed the masks and was surprised to see a soothed, non-puffy undereye! He was impressed by how relaxing the eye masks felt, too.

Target Beauty Box April 2019 - Dove Dry Shampoo Volume & Fullness FrontTarget Beauty Box April 2019 - Dove Dry Shampoo Volume & Fullness Back

Dove Dry Shampoo Volume & Fullness, 1.15oz - Estimated Value $1.12 (Buy 5oz can here for $4.89)

Dove dry shampoo is a staple in my beauty kit. This is one of my favorite formulas to use at night since it leaves a stark white cast. I like to spray it on my roots and tie my hair in a loose bun, and by morning my hair smells and looks so fresh, clean and voluminous! I will say it isn’t the easiest to brush through, but if you keep it at the roots, it works wonders.

Target Beauty Box April 2019 - Crest 3D White Brilliance Toothpaste Vibrant Peppermint Front

Crest 3D White Brilliance Toothpaste Vibrant Peppermint, .85oz - (Buy 4.1oz here for $6.99)

I love toothpaste samples! What a handy thing to have when you run out of your normal tube and dread going to the store. Crest 3D White made my teeth feel incredibly clean and my breath fresh, although I think $6.99 is a hefty price for a tube of toothpaste.

Target Beauty Box April 2019 - Degree For Women Black+White Dry Spray Antiperspirant Front

Degree For Women Black+White Dry Spray Antiperspirant, 1oz - Estimated Value $1.26 (Buy 3.8oz here for $4.79)

Spring is here with summer close behind, which poses the ultimate test: will the natural deodorants I’ve been using all fall/winter withstand the heat? Probably not, unfortunately. Cue this little gem that fits perfectly in my purse! I love having a strong backup deodorant for sweaty, emergency purposes, and this product smells fresh without being too overpowering. With one quick spritz, I feel super confident that my deo will last through pretty much anything, which is a great feeling.

Target Beauty Box April 2019 - Bliss That's Incredi-peel Glycolic Resurfacing Pads FrontTarget Beauty Box April 2019 - Bliss That's Incredi-peel Glycolic Resurfacing Pads Back

Bliss That's Incredi-peel Glycolic Resurfacing Pads, 1 pad - Estimated Value $1.33 (Buy 15 here for $19.99)

Bliss has always been a hit-or-miss brand for me due to my sensitive skin, but Ryan always seems to like their products. He was more than happy to test out this exfoliating pad, and he was even happier with the results. After a shower, he wiped his face all over with the non-abrasive pad, making sure to get all of the areas his skin tends to get congested in. He was surprised at how gentle the treatment was, but he did note it was a little tingly going on. When he woke up the next morning, his face felt “crisp” and clean, no sensitivity or irritation to be reported!

Verdict: Target really sent a vast mix of products to keep us fresh this month! This box has a total estimated value of about $10.74 -- a low value compared to the $7 (free shipping) box cost, but I have to note how awesome some of these samples will be for travel this summer. I will say I do not condone one-use samples from any subscriptions, but I can overlook some of these since two of the three packets were mask/treatments.

Value Breakdown: This box had a value of $10.74; here’s what you are approximately paying per item:

  • TIGI Bed Head Smoothing Cream: $.60
  • Soap & Glory Hydrogel Patches: $2.93
  • Dove Dry Shampoo Volume & Fullness: $.73
  • Crest 3D White Brilliance Toothpaste: $1.06
  • Degree For Women Black+White Dry Spray Antiperspirant: $.82
  • Bliss That’s Incredi-Peel: $.87

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, as of publication, this box is still available!

I’m a self-proclaimed “cool mom” who loves a little, who am I kidding, a lot of razzle-dazzle. I have been box-obsessed for over 10 years, and I am always on the hunt for new beauty, fun flair and trendy clothing boxes. A fun night for me includes an exfoliating foot mask and a bag of Dot's Pretzels while binging Rupaul’s Drag Race.

After Party is one of the best products out there. I use it on my hair daily, sometimes twice a day. I live in a dry climate, so moisture is everything. After Party makes my hair feel so silky. That said, it’s a professional hair product that should be sold only in a salon. There’s no reason for Target to be using it in a beauty box.

JuJu

That is not correct at all. Target sells a lot of salon brands.

Allison

You are mistaken. After Party is sold at grocery stores and drug stores as well not just at salons.

Tasha

Wow target boxes are nothing like they used to be. I have only purchased like two In the last year and used to buy them all.

Anne

Second that Allison 🙂

In my opinion putting a retail value on a foil packet or one peel is silly. Just call it what it is…a free sample that you have been duped into paying for.

Casey

I know the value is above the box cost, but this month’s box seemed super light. I knew what was in it, which I why I ordered it, but I didn’t realize all the samples would be so SMALL. 🙁

Even thought it’s not a high-value box, I like and will use everything. It’s hard to find spray deodorant in travel size, so that adds to the value for me since I prefer it over solids.

After party is BOMB! I’ve been using it for years. It takes care of your ends/flyaways but is still lightweight.

missann

I am happy with it.

“and it usually sells out very quickly”

Is this still true? Target boxes seem to be really dropping off in quality and value, and so many end up going on clearance.

Reply ButtonReply

Allison

Nope. With a few rare exceptions Target can barely even give these boxes away these days.

Luna

Thanks MSA for deleting that one comment. 😉 Good call!

Anna

Is anyone else irritated by the new coupon situation? I feel like it’s just me but it bugs me that I can’t use it in store anymore.

Reply ButtonReply

Sally

Yes, I am. I have no way to use the coupon now since I don’t have a mobile phone.

Reply ButtonReply

Luna

I hear you. My mom doesn’t have a cell phone either, so she’s never able to partake in their app only deals. 🙁

Luna

Do you mean how you have to scan the coupon into your phone now? If so, you can still use that in store. 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Anna

Oh really? I asked an associate at Target and they said it can only be used online….now I’m confused. If I can still use it in store I’ll be super happy

Nat

I did enjoy this box. I’ve used everything. My favorite are the eye patches

rhonda

Nice box but I received 2 deodorants instead of a deodorant and dry shampoo

Paula

Despite the low value of this box, I found everything in it very useful, and slightly better than the foil samples found in the walmart boxes. Target has sure cheaper out lately though…

ANNE

Walmart has these boxes beat hands down ! Target used to give nice size items in their boxes but now their barely sample size and less for that price – pads !
