Stitch Fix Kids April 2019 Review

In our Stitch Fix Kids box, there were several bright and colorful information sheets, a set of cute stickers, and some information about their box challenge. I love that they encourage recycling of your box in such a fun way.

This is the invoice that was sent in the box. It provides specifics on the brand, size, and price of each item. They also give instructions at the bottom for how to check out and either purchase or return your items in the pre-paid postmarked envelope they provide. The items for my daughter came to a total of $228, but with the 25% discount (which they take off BEFORE they deduct the $20) and the $20 credit, our total drops down to $151.00.

This is the included style sheet, which features pictures of all the clothing and a sweet note from her stylist, Isabel, who usually does a great job of matching her style. I love that they make it more kid-friendly by adding a little maze to the outside of it!

Habitual Talma Ruffle Short Set, Size 6X - Cost to Keep $36.00

I thought these shorts were so adorable when I saw them in her box! The pink stripes, the ruffles, and the cute little bows were so sweet, but I really didn't like the top with them. I think because they didn't match perfectly with the shorts since it was more of a cream color while the shorts looked more white. Also, the top was really long on her and didn't look right if it wasn't tucked in, but if it was left out, it covered a lot of the fun details since it was so long and it was a tad see-through. I wish the shorts were separate and not part of a set!

Here are the top and shorts closeup.

RUMI + RYDER Karin Knit Cuffed Short, Size S - Cost to Keep $16

These are perfect shorts for warmer weather for a 4-year-old girl! They are comfortable with pockets, an elastic drawstring waistband and cute rolled up cuffs at the bottom. I love the fun floral pattern and the bright colors and I can see her wearing these for playing outside over the next few months!

Here is a closer look. They are pretty nice quality, too!

Joe's Jeans Hadlee Frayed Hem Short, Size 6 - Cost to Keep $24.00

While these are listed as the Hadlee short by StitchFix, one tag reads the Markie short, while the other reads Dylan so I'm not quite sure which these are! These feature a fun frayed hem and a dark wash. They are supposed to be so soft and I found them to be just slightly softer than regular jean shorts. These fit her nicely and I was pleased with the quality.

These also feature an adjustable elastic in the waistband which is always a must for my skinny girl!

Persaya Girl Varsha Ruffle Cold Shoulder Top, Size S - Cost to Keep $20.00

This top is so cute and was really soft, but it was much too big on her. I love the denim color with the polka dot pattern and the fun ruffles and think this would be so cute with a pair of white shorts. Here we paired it with the Joe's denim shorts from above. The wrists have elastic in them too which makes the sleeves puff out a bit and accentuate the ruffles at the top.

Unfortunately, since it was a bit wide on her, we sort of lost the cold shoulder effect. This is one of those size issues we always seem to have since she has a tiny four-year-old body, but the height of a big kid.

Flapdoodles Rosita Short Set, Size 6 - Cost to Keep $26.00

This outfit was super cute and I really thought my daughter would love it with the fun popsicle pattern, but she kept telling me about her plans to wear them for pajamas. After that, I knew she wouldn't be wearing them outside like I would expect her to! I love the unique tassel design on the popsicle and the length of the shorts is great for running around and playing in. The quality was pretty average though and if she only has plans to wear them for pajamas, then they are a bit out of our price range for that purpose.

Design History Juri Crochet Short, Size 6X - Cost to Keep $22.00

These crochet shorts are so pretty and fun! I love the color and the elastic waist means they are comfortable for her. Unfortunately, since they were a bit baggy, the crochet didn't look as nice as it could have if they were a bit more fitted - I think these should come in my size!  She was excited when she first saw the fabric and color, but then she kept saying she wished it was a skirt. This girl really does have her own sense of fashion and she isn't afraid to tell me about it these days! You can see the shorts on her in the pictures below.

RUMI + RYDER, Size S - Cost to Keep $16

This next top is cute and a great play shirt, but I wasn't a huge fan of the pattern. It's definitely fun with the bright fruit, but a little busy for me. Also, for such a basic cotton racerback tank, it seems a little overpriced considering I could get one with a pattern we like more for much less online. This one is a bit thicker and has a bit of stretch to it, but a basic top like this that I can easily find anywhere is one I prefer to pay a little less for even if there is a slight sacrifice in quality.

I do love the nice racerback style of the top.

RUMI + RYDER Leah Knit Legging, Size S - Cost to Keep $12.00

These basic black leggings were fine and a great idea to send her, but they were much too big on her.

Sovereign Code Dominique Lace Trim Shift Dress, Size 6X - Cost to Keep $26.00

I love the blush pink color of this dress and that lacy ruffle detail on this dress, but that's about it. This shift dress ended up being pretty unflattering on her and neither of us was a fan, especially since she prefers a full skirt for her dresses. Sorry for the blurry photos, but she couldn't stand still at this point! The material looks like a sweatshirt and that would have definitely been a better option for this fabric and material! How cute would a blush sweatshirt with ruffles at the sleeves be?

BCBGirls Eve Legging Set, Size 6X - Cost to Keep $30.00

My daughter and I both LOVED the top of this set. She kept telling me that she wished it was a dress, and I have to agree. It would be an adorable dress! It was still cute with the leggings, but the sizing was a bit off for us. The top fit her perfectly, but the bottoms were much too big on her.

You can see how baggy and long they are, which is odd because she really is in a size 6X and the top was just fine so it was kind of a bummer.

Here is a closeup of the beautiful floral pink and yellow top. I love the lace detail on the front and the buttons on the back. Such a perfect spring and summer top!

The Verdict: This month's Stitch Fix Kids box was a bit of a mixed bag for us as far as style and sizing. It seemed like anything that was my daughter's style didn't fit her quite right and the items that fit were just not items she would wear. I'm actually pretty surprised about the sizing issue because we have been having pretty good luck with it lately, but it definitely varies from brand to brand. As for the style, for the most part, she is pretty good about trying new things and will take outfit suggestions from me, but if I am paying a bit more for the convenience of this service, then I am going to be a bit pickier when it comes to the style and making sure that it is something she will be excited about wearing. I think I will say this every month, but I wish that they followed the adult model and sent only 5 items at a time. I'd be much more inclined to keep everything if I received the discount and sizing issues wouldn't bother me as much knowing that I could store them away until they fit her. While this fix was a bit of a miss for us, it was still fun to see what they sent and try on some different styles, and the convenience is usually worth the $20 styling fee!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Stitch Fix curates its boxes based on each individual’s preferences as well as what’s available. What you get might not be the same as what we got, but you will probably get something that fits your child's style and size even better than the looks above! Sign up and see what they choose for you!

Value Breakdown: This box cost $20 with free shipping and returns. The total retail value of the items inside is $228. The invoice lists the cost of each item next to it, but if I keep all of the items, then I get a 25% discount. The $20 styling fee for the box is applied to the purchase no matter how many items you keep, and in this case, it would bring the total down to $151. That’s a discount of around 34% for these items!

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

I think everything is so cute! Maybe it’s just me, but long and bunchy leggings don’t bother me at all…it just means that it’ll fit my kiddo for much longer!

The length didn’t bother me so much, but I may not have mentioned that they were also too big in the waistband and hanging off of her! lol. Usually, I’m all about the bigger clothes since we get longer wear out of them! 🙂
