April 2019 So Susan Color Curate Review

No info card this month, but let's check out our bag and products!

Limited-Edition Makeup Bag April 2019  - Retail Value $12.00

I love birds! This bag feels so springy and I think the flowers around our bird friend are really pretty and the illustration style is very interesting.

Jelly Pong Pong Cosmetics Nebula Intensely Foiled Spongy Eyeshadow in 'Interstellar', 4 g - Retail Value $22.00

I thought this was a highlighter at first and I was less excited but it is actually a borderline metallic eyeshadow! It has a weirdly springy texture and is super pigmented. It looks a little more rose gold on my skin than in the pot! I tried this wet and it made a very pretty eyeliner, but it did tend to feather out and soften through the night.

Trifle Cosmetics Lava Liner Water-Resistant Liquid Eyeliner, 2 g - Retail Value $10.00

This felt-tipped liquid eyeliner is blackest black and water resistant. It absolutely stays put, even with rubbing! It would be a great choice for someone looking for a highly effective, vegan, and cruelty-free eyeliner.

So Susan Cosmetics Liquid Matte Long-Wear Liquid Lipstick in 'Pumpkin', 5 ml - Retail Value $14.00

I thought this color was a little fall-ish for a spring festival themed box, but I will say it is a very wearable orange. It kind of leans a little brick red, which makes it feel more sophisticated. I don't love matte formulas, but I topped this off with a little lip balm to transform it into a satin finish.

So Susan Cosmetics - The Carnival - Ultra-Vibrant Gradient Eyeshadow Palette - Retail Value $45.00

This palette was really interesting because each of the 4 shadows is a gradient. You could potentially get at least two colors from each. Where it lacked for me was in pigmentation. There just wasn't a ton! On the flip side, as far as Coachella-esque palettes go, this one has a lot more wearability than some of its wilder counterparts. Everything but the teal is actually very wearable every day, even for more subtle looks.

Verdict: So Susan Color Curate might not have been my absolute favorite this time, but it was still a solid box! This month had a value of $103, which is (as usual) great for this $21 bag. It was a little heavy on the eyeshadows for my taste, and I really don't see myself wearing any of them regularly. I say this lightly, because my makeup vibes are always very natural, and most people branch out into adventurous colors more often I would guess. The lipgloss was actually really lovely, just off for me in terms of season. The black eyeliner was solid and very high quality.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

I got a deep purple lip. I was really excited for the pumpkin bc I look good in those colors. Now I’m kind of like uh…

Has anyone else noticed how few reviews are on their site, and that they are all positive? After getting this sub, I am extremely suspicious that it is because they do not approve negative reviews.

They initially marketed the palette as color shift, which got me to buy it. It is not. It is not pigmented, as this review shows. It is hands down the poorest quality and worst palette I have ever come across. Bummer.

Megan, thank you so much for this review! I’ve been drooling over that eyeshadow palette since I first saw it a couple months ago — even though I’m sure I already have eyeshadows in similar colors, and I can blend them myself. Thank you for saving me $21 of disappointment!

You are welcome Kimberly! It wasn’t my favorite either, but I appreciate that they were so creative with it.

I certainly don’t need another eyeshadow palette, but those gradient pans sure are pretty to look at.

Melissa, if you want to pay the shipping I will gladly send you the bag. I don’t need another cosmetics bag, and it will sit in a box on a shelf until I finally donate it.

Thank you Megan! Now that I see the lipstick swatched on your skin I am going to give it a try 🙂 I looked at it and thought it was far too orange for me, so was going to pass along to my always willing daughter. LOL That actually looks much more wearable for my skin tone that it appears in the tube.

The single eyeshadow looks a bit rose gold on me as well, but thankfully I love those shades, so this was a solid little single for me.

I am going to pass the palette to my youngest, she will likely go crazy for it. 🙂

You are welcome! It def looked much more true orange in the tube. I am glad the eyeshadows were a hit for you guys! <3

I love using an eyeshadow from the palette and then topping it with the spongy eyeshadow! Especially the gradient green.

Megan K.

oooh this sounds lovely! I really do like that green color. I am always really minimal with eyeshadows but I need to branch out I think.

Amy

Me as well! That’s why I liked topping it with the spongy eyeshadow… tones it down for me! Step 1 in branching out to more colorful eyeshadows lol

Marion

I’d love to swap for the Carnival palette! Click my name to go to my swaps page!
