Sephora Favorites Summer Sun On The Fly April 2019 Review

Sephora Favorites Summer Sun On The Fly April 2019 - Travel bag

Here is the bag everything came packaged in. I love the neon combined with the basket weave!

Sephora Favorites Summer Sun On The Fly April 2019 - Travel fresh

Fresh Sugar Advanced Therapy Lip Treatment in Translucent,0.07 oz – Estimated Value $12.13 (buy the full-size version for $26)

Fresh lip treatments were my first introduction into the world beyond Carmex and Chapstick, and I never looked back. This is a clear balm made with sugar (to prevent moisture loss), sea fennel (to smooth fine lines), and orange extract (to protect your lips). This does provide long-lasting moisture to my chronically dry lips, and it is a great balm to wear before going in with a drying liquid lipstick. Plus, absolutely no stickiness!

Sephora Favorites Summer Sun On The Fly April 2019 - Travel glow recipe

Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Pink Juice Moisturizer, 0.3 oz – Estimated Value $7.41 (buy the 0.85 oz version for $21)

I love all of the watermelon products from Glow Recipe, and this moisturizer is no exception. It smells like watermelon, and it is a great lightweight moisturizer I like reaching for in the mornings, especially now that the days are getting a lot warmer. This moisturizer mixes perfectly with the Isle of Paradise drops also included in this kit, too!

Sephora Favorites Summer Sun On The Fly April 2019 - Travel isle

Isle of Paradise Light Self Tanning Drops in Light, Full-Size! Retail Value $29 (currently out of stock)

A full-size item worth more than the cost of the entire box? Heck yes! I have been super curious about trying these drops out (they’re having a ~trendy~ moment on Instagram, and they are sold out online at Sephora). To use, you mix these drops with your moisturizer to get a customizable tan (the amount of product you mix with the moisturizer correlates to how deep your tan will be). There was a little trial and error at first, but after using this in the morning mixed with my Glow Recipe moisturizer from this kit for a few days, my skin definitely has a glow going- but I’m not orange! I never thought I would be into self-tanning for my face because I thought it would be a hassle, but these drops proved me wrong. They’re a hit!

Sephora Favorites Summer Sun On The Fly April 2019 - Travel SDJ 1

Sephora Favorites Summer Sun On The Fly April 2019 - Travel SDJ 2

Sol De Janeiro Brazillian Bum Bum Cream, 0.84 oz – Retail Value $10

I am big on the SDJ Bum Bum cream, and honestly, I hate myself a little for it because I prefer to support smaller, indie bath brands. But this body lotion is the perfect consistency to moisturize skin without leaving it greasy, and the scent is an addictive pistachio and salted caramel.

Sephora Favorites Summer Sun On The Fly April 2019 - Travel supergoop

Supergoop! 100% Mineral Smooth & Poreless Matte Screen SPF 40, 0.5 oz – Retail Value $18

I like most sunscreens from Supergoop!, but this one may be a particular favorite. It has a light tint to it, it glides over the skin with ease, and it makes my skin feel SO soft while providing SPF 40 protection. Using this on top of the IOP drops was all I needed to feel absolutely confident in my skin.

Sephora Favorites Summer Sun On The Fly April 2019 - Travel volition

Volition Beauty Prismatic Luminizing Shield SPF 50, 0.34 oz – Estimated Value $11.67 (buy the full-size version for $35)

This is a generous sample coming in at one-third of the full-size version, and this was a brand-new product to me. I really loved it- it provides SPF 50 protection, it blended easily into my skin, and it gave me a subtle glow that looks like a natural highlight whenever the sun hit my face.

The Verdict: This is my favorite Sephora Favorites Kit of all time- I bought this on a Saturday, and less than 24 hours later I went back to my Sephora to buy a second kit because I seriously love every single item in this kit so much—especially for the price! Sephora knocked the curation of this out of the park, and even if the self-tanning drops aren’t for you the value of the Supergoop! + the Bum Bum cream is more than the cost of the box, too. I calculated a total value of $88.21, which exceeds the promised value of $83 and absolutely blows the $25 cost out of the water.

The Wrap Up:

Can you get this box if you sign up today? Currently, this is only available in store. I recommend calling your local store to see if they have it in stock (and I imagine Sephora will release this online soon, though it will probably go fast!).

Value Breakdown: This box cost $25 and I calculated a total value of $88.21, meaning you’re paying approximately the following per item:

  • Fresh Lip Therapy: $3.44
  • Glow Recipe: $2.10
  • Isle of Paradise: $8.22
  • Sol De Janeiro: $2.83
  • Supergoop!: $5.10
  • Volition Beauty: $3.31

Heads up: there’s a different “Summer Sun on the fly” kit at JCP Sephora. It’s still $25 but not nearly as good (imo). Different SDJ, same Supergoop, no Volition Beauty or Isle of Paradise product. It has a Sephora brand micellular water I think? Anyway, I found the “real” kit at my local Sephora. It’s fabulous. Thank you Jessica for letting us know about this!

OMG I WANT this!!

Paula

Anyone know if this will be available in Canada? For some reason, I keep reading that certain Sephora products with SPF aren’t allowed in Canada (Supergoop, for one) –something about not enough SPF or ingredients that aren’t approved in Canada?

Allison

If only there was a search engine that you could use to look up the reason why! 🙄

Your reviews are great! I wasn’t really interested in this on first glance but after reading your review I’m going to head to Sephora to see if I can snag one. Thanks!

Her reviews have caused me to buy several boxes that I had not initially wanted nor planned on buying. 😉😙

I’m 100% getting this. I’m really curious about the drops, and I’d love to see how it turned out on you!! Thanks for a great review, Jessica

Dang you, Jessica. Love your review. Now I want this bag even though I still have unused products from last year’s amazing sun bag. Even though I knew it’s not available online I clicked on your link for free products with purchase. Saw something I really wanted so I spent $25 for a buxom 4 pack of lip products (which I’m actually happy about so I shouldn’t say dang). I’m still going to try and get this bag this weekend, however. I like that it has fewer products so I’ll most likely use them all.

This kit is AMAZING!! Thanks for posting about it. My of my favs ever!

Oooh, I’d love to see before and after photos of the tan you got from the Isle of Paradise drops. Self-tanners always make me orange (but it might be because I start out yellow…)

I’m super pale so I always turn orange too!

I’d like if reviews of sunscreen said what the active ingredients are. I wear mineral ones, the others are hormone disrupters.

Reply ButtonReply

Shampoodle

In case anyone reading this is concerned about “hormone disrupters”: Studies on rats who were *fed* high amounts of chemical sunscreens cannot be extrapolated to humans who apply sunscreen to the skin. Now, if you’re planning to apply chemical sunscreen to your skin for more than 200 years, you may end up with a problem. But you’d probably have a bigger problem, what with being a vampire and all.

I am so excited. I figured I would pass on this kit since I didn’t care for the last one, but I actually really want it. There is only one Sephora in Alaska and it’s about 6 hours from me so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I will be able to grab one online.

Reply ButtonReply

Michelle

This is the first time I’ve seen another Alaskan on this site! Do you have a swap profile?

Reply ButtonReply

Michelle

And sorry I just realized that was misleading. I don’t have items from this kit up for swap, was just wondering for future reference.

Miss Pippa

I really want this one. I hope the Sephora near me has one in stock this weekend.

I hope they offer this online! I don’t want to have to go to the store to get it, yet it looks really good!
