Meowbox March 2019 "When It Rains, It Purrs" Review
Meowbox has a lot of exclusive toys that are usually pretty popular with my cats. From my perspective, it’s nice to see some things that don’t turn up in other cat subscription boxes:
The information card typically just gives a URL for finding out more information about the items in the box. The picture is adorable, as usual. This month had a rainy day theme. There was also a coupon.
Puddle Jumpers Rain Boots – Retail Value $5
These have a very unusual texture for a cat toy; they’re kind of slick and smooth (like real rain boots would be). These are lightweight and good for tossing but my cats were mostly interested in the string part that links the two together.
It’s Kitten Stormy Raincloud – Retail Value $6
I love getting Meowbox toys with a face on them because I think the faces are super cute. This is a catnip plush with a fuzzy texture and a bunch of ribbons. The ribbons were a hit with several cats.
Caledon Farms Chicken Bites (0.75 oz) – Estimated Value $4
This is a Canadian product that’s hard to find in the US. I’ve linked to the beef liver version in the Meowbox shop up above, figuring they would have about the same price. (These chicken ones are not in the Meowbox shop at the current time.) These are freeze-dried chicken bits and Sneaky was really into them. They are tiny pieces which are a little easier for cats to eat than some of the freeze-dried chicken treats with bigger pieces.
Umbrella Kicker from The Empurrium – Retail Value $6
This is a small kicker with some bits of trim trailing off. The bits of trim were popular with my crew during the photo session, but Angus often plays with toys like this at night (so does Monkey). I got Madison to lick it quite a bit, as well.
Dancing in the Rain Wand – Retail Value $10
I love getting wand toys in this box because my kitties love them. You can see some pictures below of Angus and Sneaky playing with this. (Don’t tell them they liked the same toy; they are bitter enemies!)
Here are your kitty photos:
I like it when Angus makes faces.
Madison wasn’t super interested in the treats, but he did like this toy.
Monkey was mostly in the mood to sniff and rub his chin on things.
Sneaky liked the wand a lot. If you look carefully in the photo with the treats, you can see her jaw practically unhinged like a snake’s.
Mr. Kitty has been wanting to rub the area around his eye on things so he is in an extra large e-collar right now. We’re trying some different things to help with this, in consultation with the veterinary ophthalmologist, but he is already doing quite a bit better in the few days since these pictures were taken. (Some of the eye drops he needs for his actual eye are irritating the skin around his eye.)
The Verdict: I calculated a total value for the March Meowbox of $31. That’s quite a bit above the cost of the box and is a great value for a cat subscription box. I like that you get a lot of custom and exclusive toys, and I think they did a great job of sticking to a theme while providing a variety of different toy types and also different textures, which is something my cats are really interested in, in general.
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Your subscription would likely start with April, but watch the Meowbox site as some of the individual items are on sale there.
Value Breakdown: At $22.95 for the subscription plus shipping, you are paying approximately the following per item:
- Boots toy $3.70
- Cloud toy $4.44
- Treats $2.96
- Kicker $4.44
- Wand $7.40
