A Little Touch of Magick March 2019 Review

I am always excited to see what this box has in store for me:

A Little Touch of Magick March 2019 Review - Information Card Front TopA Little Touch of Magick March 2019 Review - Information Card Back Top

The box came with this information card listing the items and retail values. Since the items were unbranded, I used these values when writing the review.

A Little Touch of Magick March 2019 Review - Story Book Top

Most of the time, the story comes in a little booklet like this. They vary quite a lot in length and theme. This one has an Egyptian/snake theme.

Meretseger Ring – Listed Value $35

This is fun. It is not adjustable, being quite stiff, but it was comfortable to wear and the tail didn’t poke or anything. It fit reasonably well on my middle finger, as you can see, but do beware that I have really small hands for an adult. This definitely ties in with the story, which features both snakes and rings prominently.

Mini Aventurine Pyramid – Listed Value $14

If you are interested in the properties of crystals and stones, there is information on a little inserted sheet (pictured above). As a scientist, that is not something I believe in, but I do like little knickknacks and shelf decorations and things I can pick up and fidget with while I’m bored or lost in thought and this will certainly work for that.

A Little Touch of Magick March 2019 Review - Egyptian Goddess Card Top

Egyptian Goddess Card – Listed Value $5

You’ll receive a blank card pretty much every month with this subscription. They always relate to the box theme and most are suitable for various occasions. I like blank cards because I don’t care for the pre-printed sayings in most cards and there is plenty of room to write whatever I want. Not sure who will get this one yet but it’ll probably become a birthday card for an Egypt enthusiast.

Faux Snakeskin Clutch – Listed Value $40

Two colors were possible for this item, according to the information card. I received the ivory one. This did not have any chemical smell and the zippers all worked. As you can see, there are lots of pockets, spaces for cards, etc., as well as a larger compartment on the side to hold something like a phone or lipstick. I don’t have many clutches but they do come in handy for certain occasions and this one, being neutral, will work with a lot of clothing options.

A Little Touch of Magick March 2019 Review - Snakeskin Hoop Earrings Pouch TopA Little Touch of Magick March 2019 Review - Snakeskin Hoop Earrings Top

Snakeskin Hoop Earrings – Listed Value $25

These are faux snakeskin of course (actually the hoops are a stiff material). They are a little bolder than what I usually choose for earrings but it is good to get outside my comfort zone every now and then and I think they would be fun to pair with a black top so I look slightly less Goth-y.

Golden Coiled Aventurine Necklace – Listed Value $65

This is far too long to display on my necklace model but I think it will be great with a solid-colored dress (it is somewhat adjustable but not much compared to the overall length of the chain). I am not sure this is a $65 necklace but some of that is going to depend on the precise materials (gold plated/gold filled/actual gold, grade of the gemstone, etc.) and there wasn’t much information about that in the box.

Snakeskin Print Infinity Scarf – Listed Value $28

You’ll occasionally get a scarf with this subscription. This is lightweight so it will work with the warmer weather we’ve got coming up. I rather like the packaging/label, which offers styling suggestions. I need to wear scarves more often, I have quite a collection of them from subscription boxes. This is neutral enough to work with a lot of different colors of tops, too, especially if paired with black slacks.

A Little Touch of Magick March 2019 Review - Olive Oil White Lily Aloe Soap TopA Little Touch of Magick March 2019 Review - Olive Oil White Lily Aloe Soap Info Card

Olive Oil White Lily Aloe Soap – Listed Value $6

This is the bath and body item for the month. You will get a lot of soap with this subscription, but it is nice soap, and it is not every month, so it is actually an amount a person could reasonably be expected to use up. I put this one next to my sink for hand-washing because I have three open soaps in the shower already. It seems pretty gentle and moisturizing, which is exactly what my hands need right now.

VerdictI calculated a total value of $218 for the March 2019 A Little Touch of Magick. Granted, I did have to use all values from the information card, so it seems a bit high, but even so, it’s about four times the cost of the subscription and is a good deal even if you cut it in half. I feel the contents this month are fairly representative of what you would receive in a given month (one bath/body item, several pieces of jewelry, a bag -- sometimes you get a tote instead -- and another accessory or two).

I also think there is something to be said for curation here. Opening this box isn’t just about the items (which were all lovely), but there is also an element of experience here, helped along by the story. I can tell that a great deal of thought has been put into it, from sourcing the items on down to the careful packaging. It was easy to see how the items fit the story this month, too (as usual!).

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? This was the March box. Your first box would come in April or May, depending on the time of the month you subscribe and whether they have inventory left. It sounds like they ship out throughout the month as orders come in, so if you are interested, definitely contact them ASAP.

This box seems to be very wonderfully curated and a nice variety of the kinds of things. Usually, in styles I like as well. I really liked all but the earrings here. However there is no way in any world I would value that necklace anywhere near $65. Even with that though, the value for the box is there. I hope one day to be able to get this for myself.

I. Want. This. Sub. It’s amazing. It’s completely useless. But it’s so beautifully curated that it will be a literal treat every month. I’m so getting this sub when I need a special treat.
