Ipsy is a monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. Each month you get full-size or deluxe-sized products, plus a cute makeup bag.

This is one of Liz’s top recommendations if you are looking for a subscription box - the value and sample sizes are amazing. (Check out our list of the best beauty boxes for 2019 and our reviews of Cheap Subscription Boxes for more recommendations!)

(FYI – Just like Birchbox, Ipsy sends out many different variations of their bag each month – so my review is just one of the bag variations you might receive!)

My Review

My bag this month features skincare, makeup, and hair products. Let’s see what I got!

info card product list

A little card is included with info about the theme and other subscriber info each month. There's also a product list with tips on how to use each one. This info is also available on your account, but I love having it right here in the bag.

bag exterior

 zipper and bag interior

Each month, Ipsy subscribers get a makeup bag in addition to their 5 items. March's bag is a rose gold vinyl bag with the phrase "and off she went to change the world" debossed on it. The interior is hot pink and the bag has a royal blue zipper with a cute star zipper pull. I've just started bullet journalling and these little bags are great for holding all of my stickers and tools.

FAB Moisturizer tube FAB Moisturizer ingredients

First Aid Beauty Hello FAB Coconut Skin Smoothing Priming Moisturizer, .34oz - Estimated Value $5.60 (Buy 1.7oz full size for $28)

I love that First Aid Beauty's products are allergy-tested and fragrance-free. This moisturizing primer is perfect for prepping my skin for makeup on dry days. It feels super hydrating and smooths and brightens my skin.

Yensa foundation tubeYensa Foundation info

Yensa BC Foundation in Medium, 10ml - Estimated Value $11.88 (Buy 32ml full size for $38)

This tube claims to be a BB, CC, and full-coverage foundation. I'm impressed with the coverage and lightweight feel, but I wouldn't say it could replace my moisturizer and primer. I do like that it has an SPF of 40 without any weird tint of feel.

Tarte mascara Tarte mascara open Tarte mascara wand

tarte Maneater Mascara, 4.5 ml - Retail Value $12

The wand for this mascara is flexible and covered with fine, spikey bristles. It takes me a bit more time than normal to build the look I want, but the outcome is great – feathery, soft lashes with lots of volume. The whipped texture is easy to work into the base of my lashes without making a mess.

Foxybae Leave in tube Foxybae Leave in ingredeints Foxybae Leave in open

FoxyBae Flaminglow Leave-In Conditioner, 1oz - Estimated Value $2.12 (Buy 8oz full size for $16.95)

The fragrance of this leave-in conditioner is a decadent flowery floral. My hair soaks loves the gel-lotion texture and seems to drink it up. It helps smooth and soften my strands without weighing them down. I find it especially useful on 2nd and 3rd-day hair to help tame frizz and make me smell expensive.

REALHER liquid lipstick REALHER liquid lipstick info REALHER liquid lipstick open

RealHer I Am Adaptable Matte Liquid Lipstick, 1.5ml - Estimated Value $9 (Buy full size for $14)

This formula really impresses me! It's fast drying, comfortable and can withstand lots of talking and sipping. I love a bold red lip and this one is certainly intense!

makeup look

My Ipsy Glam Bag look this month is basically all lip! I smoothed my dry skin with the FAB Priming Moisturizer then used a damp blending sponge to bounce on some of the Yensa BC Foundation. I went with a simple eye look but wanted big lashes so I applied a couple of layers of Tarte Maneater Mascara. The last step was 1 coat of the RealHer Liquid Lip – one coat gives a fully opaque finish – and I felt ready to go with minimal effort.

Verdict: This Ipsy Glam Bag has a value of $40.60 which is lower than usual but still good for $10! I enjoyed trying each of the items this month and actually liked every product. I think my favorite is the liquid lip since I don't have many reds in my lip collection. This is one of the best, inexpensive beauty subscriptions if you want to try new items and play with new colors.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Possibly! As of publication, there was no Ipsy waitlist. Check here to see what month you’ll get first.

Good to know: Ipsy sends out variations. You may get a completely different bag than me.

Value Breakdown: At $10 for this box, here’s what you are paying approximately per item:

  • FAB Moisturizer - $1.38
  • Yensa Foundation - $2.93
  • Tarte Mascara - $2.96
  • FoxyBae Leave In - $0.52
  • RealHer Lipstick - $2.22
  • Makeup bag - n/a

My bag was virtually identical except I think I got a brush instead of the Yensa.

I wasn’t crazy about the scent of the Foxybae as it came out of the tube, but it got better as it dried.

I get this bag and they sent me mascara. I am unable to wear mascara due to an eye condition so I emailed and asked them if a person could permanently decline a particular type of product and they said that I could.

This might be nice to know if someone else has something they can’t or won’t use.

I loved my bag this month overall. I would like to try some shampoo and conditioner samples and hope they include some different ones in future bags.

Yes – they let you opt out of 2 product types. They’ve been doing this for awhile.

Joyce,
I’m afraid to tell you, you won’t see much (or any) shampoo and conditioner samples with Ipsy. Sometimes they pop up in Ipsy’d Weekly Offers…BUT a lot of other subscription boxes/bags feature shampoos etc. very often: Birchbox, Glossybox, Look Fantastic, Beautyfix to name a few…

I didn’t like the Yensa without primer, it worked much better with it. I definitely don’t think it can replace all the products it states, but it had nice coverage. I am totally over the matte lip look, but that color is gorgeous on you! Now I want to try it with a balm or gloss.

I really want to try that Foxy Bae as well, I am always on the hunt for good products to help with my crazy curls.

I recently saw FoxyBae products at Marshalls! I would never have noticed them if I didn’t get the same leave-in conditioner in my bag. lol I know the selection is always hit & miss with those stores, but it could be worth checking out. 🙂 I noticed in general, that Marshalls & TJ Maxx usually have a great selection of products from brands that seem to focus on curly hair. 🙂

Thank you Luna! 🙂 I wouldn’t have thought to check there, but I will. I usually pass by that section for some reason, I’ll definitely stop doing that!

I like my March bag so much, even it doesn’t have a high retail value.

Wow, I got the RealHer in both my glam bag and glam bag plus (ipsy totally made it right by sending me a full size Murad) and I wasn’t thrilled because I’ve been on a pinky mauve kick and it seemed way too bright for everyday. This review made me super excited to try it! Looks great on you and I’m delighted to hear the formula is good!

It definitely dries down to a deeper color than it appears in the tube. I found it to be a very wearable, classic red.

It is really nice.

I’m always all about the red lip.

Also with the Maneater mascara if you want super length and volume, pair it with a primer. I used the Tarte one, but I’m sure just about any will do.

The lipstick looks great on you. I received a full size in my glam plus bag and I like it. I just have to figure out when I will wear it because its very bold.

Your application of the lip product is beautiful! Looks like glossy to matte. Love your reviews Tiffany <3

I received the Yensa and mine was watery. I had zero coverage. Glad it worked for you!
