GlossyBox is a monthly beauty subscription box. They have the best packaging in the business, their products are usually a deluxe size or full size, and the value is usually good too.

They frequently release special edition boxes that are generally pretty awesome! My mom is the type that tends not to ever spoil herself so I love the idea of gifting her something like this box that feels so pampering. While my mom doesn't generally splurge on beauty products, she LOVES when I bring her new things to try and I think it makes her feel very fancy. While I will be testing these items out, they will end up going to her, so you will also see my thoughts on how she will like each item in the review.

FYI - this limited edition box is still available for purchase!

Glossybox Mother's Day Limited Edition April 2019 review mascara Glossybox Mother's Day Limited Edition April 2019 review mascara open

Rodial Glamolash Mascara XXL, 13 ml - FULL SIZE Retail Value $28.00

I am usually a little hesitant to embrace mascaras with massive brushes because I am a messy mascara user and the bigger the brush the more I get on my eyelid. I have never tried anything from this brand before though, so that was exciting. The mascara itself is smooth and dark black, without any sort of sheen. Though I did end up with mascara on my eyelid, I was impressed with the brush's ability to separate my lashes and coat each one. This was not an in your face volume boost right away, and I did need a second coat for any sort of drama. I have one eye that tends to collect mascara underneath it through the day and this mascara stayed put!

Would my mom use it? Yes, she does wear mascaras daily, though I think she is probably much less picky than I am!

ALTERNA HAIRCARE CAVIAR Anti-Aging Restructuring Bond Repair Leave-In Heat Protection Spray, 125 ml - FULL SIZE Retail Value $32.00

So, full disclosure: I don't use heated tools on my hair ever. I am minimal and borderline lazy when it comes to my hair. I don't even own a hairdryer (I melted mine on our kitchen stove, long embarrassing story, some other time) so I thought I would loop Marne into this review since she blowdries her hair daily.

Marne's thoughts: The nozzle isn't great. Instead of a "mist", it shoots out a pretty aggressive stream of product. She preferred squirting some into her hand then applying to her hair before blow-drying. A+ scent and the formula did help with frizzies, flyaways, and overall smoothness.

Megan's thoughts: This stuff smells so good. I tried it on my dry hair as a frizz tamer and smoother, even though that is really not what it is designed for. I am a rebel. It works surprisingly well in this capacity, so even if you don't need heat protection, this product can still be a winner for you.

Would my mom use it? Yep! She curls her hair daily and loves products like this! She will appreciate the lightweight formula and great scent.

Babo Botanicals Nutri-Shine Hydrating Lip Luminizer in 'Guava', 4 ml - FULL SIZE! Retail Value $18.95

Pretty! This gloss is a natural nude-ish tint and it is filled with tiny shimmering sparkles.  This is the sort of shade that should work well on anyone alone or over your favorite lip color for some extra shine. The formula was very smooth and moisturizing, without that gross stickiness that some thicker glosses have. It also left my lips feeling better after I used it than before because it was very hydrating.

Would my mom use it? Absolutely! She loves lipsticks and glosses.

Babor Lifting Bi-Phase Ampoules - FULL SIZE Retail Value $50.00

I really didn't love how this felt on my face, but even I can't deny results. These little glass capsules come with their very own tool to help you safely snap off the tops. Filled with a multi-part solution, you shake them before use to combine the different formulas together then pat onto your face. It felt rather sticky, but applying a light moisturizer on top did really help. My skin looked immediately plumper and more hydrated. I could absolutely see this product working well for someone with anti-aging concerns and the individual capsules are the perfect amount for your face, meaning each dose stays really fresh.

Would my mom use it? Absolutely. This is the kind of stuff she would really be into because it feels like a really unusual product experience. She will especially love snapping those little glass vials and the skin-plumping benefits.

Patchology FlashPatch Illuminating Eye Gels, set of 5 pairs - FULL SIZE Retail Value $15.00

I love an under-eye patch and I appreciate that this box has 5 pairs. These are thin little gels that are very wet! They are a little difficult to apply but worth the trouble. Unlike some other eye patches, these did tend to slowly slide down my face as I wore them, so they are likely going to behave better if you use them lying down and relaxing. They are SO hydrating! My under-eye area gets really dull and totally benefits from a product like this that delivers instant moisture and is filled with skin-loving ingredients such as green tea and vitamin C.

Would my mom use it? My mom is pretty hooked on Korean sheet masks because I love them so much and always have an overflow that I share with her on my visits home. I don't think she has ever tried any under-eye specific patches or gel formulas, so this should excite her.

Viktor and Rolf Vanilla Twist Layering Oil, 20 ml - FULL SIZE Retail Value $69.00

So at first, I thought this was a smaller vial of the actual Flowerbomb perfume and I WAS STOKED. This is one of my favorite scents! I am going to admit that when I realized it wasn't, I was more than a little bummed. This is actually a layering oil you use underneath Flowerbomb (or really any fragrance) that extends the life of your perfume and gives it a little vanilla boost. If you wear it alone, it is pretty minimal scent wise and smells like pure vanilla. While I think this idea is pretty cool- especially as a fragrance nerd- I would have preferred to get actual perfume. I think I will enjoy experimenting with layering this under some of my other perfumes though!

Would my mom use it? No, she doesn't wear perfume.

Glossybox Mother's Day Limited Edition April 2019 review flowerbomb Glossybox Mother's Day Limited Edition April 2019 review flowerbomb sample

BONUS: Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb Sample

So they did send us a little tiny sample of the actual Flowerbomb perfume to try out over the layering oil. This is one of my favorite scents! I think I love it because it is one of those floral scents that leans very, very patchouli, and has big tea profiles to boot! There is also a little citrus in there that lingers between the rose and jasmine notes. This is one that lingers for me all day and almost smells creamy. If you want to try it out but don't feel like blowing all of your money on perfume, CVS actually has an incredibly close dupe that is around $10. I like to buy it to use as a room spray, but it absolutely sticks to the skin pretty well too and saves me from the guilt of going through an actual Flowerbomb bottle super fast.

Would my mom use it? No, again, she doesn't wear perfumes.

Verdict: The Glossybox Limited Edition Mother's Day Box had a bunch of really great pampering treats. It would be a fantastic gift for your mom, yourself, or really anyone in your life who deserves a little something special. There was only one item out of 6 that my mom wouldn't use (not counting the extra perfume sample), and I think she will be more than thrilled with this selection. My personal favorites would have to be the lip gloss and the patches, though it was hard to pick two favorites from this bunch. This box has an overall value of $212.95, which is exceptional for a $40 box and is probably a lot more impressive than most flower bouquets. But at that price, you can totally afford to get mom both!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box? Yep! Click this link here to buy and spoil that mom of yours. Or yourself. This is a judgment-free zone.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

This is such an awesome deal. I already have the Jasmine oil and I love it. It would have been more awesome if we get pick from the three scents. Still very happy with this deal.

I just ordered using the ONEFREE code. How can I pass up a free box? I can’t, obviously.

Great review, ladies. My mom and I love skin care products with me being almost 52 and her being . . . older.

Great review as always, Megan! I received mine a couple of days ago and I think I can use everything! I have a couple more samples of the perfume, so I would definitely try with the oil. So interesting. However, I have a hard time using eye masks… I love masks in general, especially sheet masks and sleeping masks. I have to come up with a way to use stash of eye masks… my mornings are no good (getting my young child and myself ready is enough, lol), I don’t feel the need of eye masks in conjunction of sheet masks which covers my most of my face anyway. So maybe use along with sleeping masks and take off before bed? Does anyone sleep with them? I just feel like if I am doing masks, I prefer to cover all of my face, not just my eyes… And I am thinking of bring them to my trip this month to use it after long flight. Or dare to use it in-flight…

Absolutely love everything in this beautiful box. Ordered one for me and one for my best friend and can’t wait to try the Babor stuff. My friend use these a lot and is obsessed with it – they work, her skin is absolutely phenomenal (being in her mid 40s) Flowerbomb is one of my favourite scents and I always wanted to try the Patchology masks. Super excited

If anyone would like to split this box, I just want the perfume and hair stuff….maybe the lip gloss

Haha I would go half with someone as well. I don’t need two either. Would be $20 per person.

Allison

I’m in the minority but I can’t stand beauty oils of any kind. I would never wear perfume oil. I’ve tried several and while they do last forever I just can’t stand oil anywhere on my body. The only oil I can even remotely tolerate is tiny drops of hair oil on my ends occasionally. Everything else looks fine but last year was so much better.

Reply ButtonReply

Megan K.

I feel like oils are very hit or miss for people. I have super dry skin and hair so I love them, but I also have pals who find most of them unbearably heavy for sure.

Reply ButtonReply

Kristin

So I thought based on your profile picture you had some natural wave to your hair, you mean your hair is that beautiful straight hair you have in your recent pictures drying naturally? Your hair is gorgeous!

Reply ButtonReply

Megan K.

Hey Kristin! Thanks so much! My dry hair is kind of a wild card. It does have a ton of texture and a decent (most days) wave. If you take a look at my recent Medusa’s Makeup review, I have a phone shot that probably showcases my hair at its most normal look. Thanks for reading!

Isabel

I’m sorry but you really are going to have to tell the melting your hairdryer story now you’ve mentioned it! 😂

Reply ButtonReply

Megan K.

My husband still makes fun of me. So I have this weird thing about the lighting in my kitchen. I do my makeup in there and it just seemed natural to also blow dry my hair in there because I can also low-key watch the tv. #multitasking Basically, I left it out running late one day, and then got home, was famished, wanted eggs, turned on gas stovetop with huge skillet ontop of cord, melted the cord all over the stove.

This is why I can’t have nice things.

Reply ButtonReply

Elizabeth

Lol! That’s too funny 😀 This actually reminds me of a similar experience I had. A few years ago, I somehow managed to melt a plastic comb in my kitchen. The fire alarms went off and my neighbour actually called emergency coz she thought it was an actual fire. The police tagged along as well and it was just a huge mess – this one officer got so pissed, it was low-key hilarious (but I guess the good thing that came out of that is that the officer and I are engaged now 🙂 )

PS. great review! I ordered a box.

Emilia

I wish for 3 things: that this box was not dedicated to mothers specifically (like last year’s), making it easier to gift to any woman in your life (aunt, teacher, friend), it had a bullet lipstick in a berry/red shade and an actual perfume instead of oil.

All in all, I am rather happy with this box, but the previous box was so much better.

Reply ButtonReply

DawnS

At least the box does not say Monther’s Day on it, really you could just pull out the booklet and give it to anyone.

Reply ButtonReply

Callmeinge

But it has “I got it from my mama” inside the box 😀

Megan K.

“bullet lipstick in a berry/red shade” is a phrase I love. I need this in every box!

I love this box. Surprisingly, I enjoy the Flowerbomb Vanilla Twist oil. I’ve used it with Flowerbomb, Laila by Geir Ness and AV by Adrienne Vittadini perfumes. It adds a soft vanilla twist to all of them… I just use one dab on each wrist and one on the back of my neck, to get the effect. The lip gloss is very silky soft, clings well to the lips and is not sticky at all. Super happy w/ my purchase.

Amanda

We are going to need the full story of your blow dryer. Lol

Megan K.

Haha I think my husband has a photo somewhere.. I am going to copy and paste the short summary of this tragedy from a reply above:

My husband still makes fun of me. So I have this weird thing about the lighting in my kitchen. I do my makeup in there and it just seemed natural to also blow dry my hair in there because I can also low-key watch the tv. #multitasking Basically, I left it out running late one day, and then got home, was famished, wanted eggs, turned on gas stovetop with huge skillet ontop of cord, melted the cord all over the stove.

This is why I can’t have nice things.

Ironically, my mom has melted a small TV on a stove before. It might be genetic.

I LOVE this box. I am pushing 60 and love under eye gels for my puffy morning eyes. Really excited to try the Babor lifting serum. As for the perfume I don’t generally wear it and I cannot handle floral scents at all I’m very hyper sensitive to smells but the vanilla just by itself was lovely so I will use that way! All the other items were a bonus!
