FitSnack Box March 2019 Review

This box usually contains some ready-to-eat snacks and sometimes a few pantry items. Although many items will be gluten-free, vegan, etc., you will also receive items with wheat, dairy, and meat-based ingredients on occasion, so it is best if you are an omnivore or live in a household with one:

One side of the information card typically has a little more information about the snacks in the box and the other side has a workout for you to try. Sometimes there are also coupons and/or product literature.

Fit Snack Box Review March 2019 - Satisbite Smoky BBQ Packet TopFit Snack Box Review March 2019 - Satisbite Smoky BBQ Served Top

Satisbite Smoky BBQ (1.5 oz) – Buy 12 Bags for $25.99

These were pretty tasty. They are vegan and made from a combination of rice flour and soy flour. The idea here was protein chips that were more palatable, and I am here for that. There is another brand of protein chips that shall remain nameless that was showing up in boxes a lot last year that was just not good, but these *are* good. I would just ask the Satisbite people to change their website to have item detail pages for each flavor with complete ingredients lists and nutrition and clear package sizes, as that is lacking right now and that information is important to me.

Fit Snack Box Review March 2019 - Orgain Kids O Bar in Chocolate Chip Packet TopFit Snack Box Review March 2019 - Orgain Kids O Bar in Chocolate Chip Served Top

Orgain Kids O Bar in Chocolate Chip (1.27 oz x 2) – Buy 10 Bars for $14.90

I am kind of over getting kids’ food in subscription boxes (I don’t have kids and don’t subscribe to kid boxes). I have also had these before. These pretty much taste like cookies although with somewhat less sugar and more fiber than you’d expect, and the texture is better than most gluten-free shelf-stable baked goods and bars I’ve tried in boxes, so there’s that.

Fit Snack Box Review March 2019 - First Order Refresh in Orange Mango Container Front

First Order Refresh in Orange Mango (120g) – Retail Value $25

I was actually kind of excited to see this. I received it in another flavor in February (not sure if it was from this box or another one) and was almost out. It is pretty much just flavoring for water. I don’t like to drink plain water (most of the time I just don’t and I am not dehydrated!) and am always looking for something to put in my water for when I work out. This is sweetened with stevia but unlike most drink enhancers, the stevia is not noticeable here (which is good because I don’t like the flavor of stevia), perhaps because there is also a little sugar. The selling point here is that it fights dehydration by enhancing the flavor of water, and that is not generally an issue for anyone except perhaps ill people and the elderly (you don’t really need 8 glasses a day, that’s a widely-circulated myth based on a misinterpretation of an old journal article). But I like it anyway because it means I don’t have to drink plain water when I exercise.

Fit Snack Box Review March 2019 - Vahdam Assorted Single Serve Long Leaf Tea TopFit Snack Box Review March 2019 - Vahdam Assorted Single Serve Long Leaf Tea Bags Top

Vahdam Assorted Single Serve Long Leaf Tea Bags (5 count) – Various Samplers Available Ranging from $9.99 to $19.99

FitSnack Box must have some kind of relationship with Vahdam Tea because I see their products A LOT in FitSnack Box. But, I drink tea and I find their products generally quite good, so I was happy to see these. This particular sampler was not available on the Vahdam website but they do have a lot of samplers available if you want to try their products. My favorites are usually the plain ones although the turmeric one was one of the better turmeric teas I’ve tried in recent memory.

Fit Snack Box Review March 2019 - Vade Nutrition Dissolvable Protein Scoops Original Combo Packet TopFit Snack Box Review March 2019 - Vade Nutrition Dissolvable Protein Scoops Original Combo Packet Inside Top

Vade Nutrition Dissolvable Protein Scoops Original Combo Pack – Retail Value $8 (found here for free)

You can get this as a free sample if you want to try it, just click on the link. I don’t recommend paying full price because $8 for two servings of protein powder is just not a good deal. Anyway, these are servings of protein powder that come in dissolvable outer coatings, with the idea being that you don’t have to measure and there’s no mess, just toss one into your shaker cup and add water later. However, as you can see, this kind of failed in the execution; I couldn’t take a photo of a pouch because mine kind of disintegrated in the package and made a mess. As it happens, I like to just measure a tablespoon or two at a time of protein powder and put it in a smoothie, I don’t usually drink protein shakes, so this format doesn’t really suit my needs. (For the record, it does have an acceptable flavor; I have received this product in quite a few boxes in the past.)

Fit Snack Box Review March 2019 - Zee Bar with Almonds and Raisins Packet Top

Zee Bar with Almonds and Raisins (1.98 oz) – Buy 8 Bars for $23.80

This has collagen so I couldn’t try it. My husband didn’t object to this one so he was my guinea pig. He said it didn’t have a strong beefy taste, that the almonds and raisins were a good choice of accompaniment to cover up any collagen flavor, and that the texture was basically the same as that of other nut and seed bars.

Fit Snack Box Review March 2019 - Vermont Minis Original Beef and Pork Sticks Packet TopFit Snack Box Review March 2019 - Vermont Minis Original Beef and Pork Stick Top

Vermont Minis Original Beef and Pork Sticks (3 oz) – Buy 10 oz for $16.49

We are not a meat stick-eating house. I feel like if you are going to eat meat sticks, this brand has quality ingredients, based on their website (their animals are antibiotic- and hormone-free). I note that one serving is two sticks so you are not getting as many servings out of this as it might appear, due to the mini size. Anyway, I dropped these off on the free snacks table at work and they have been disappearing so I guess people like them.

Fit Snack Box Review March 2019 - Wowbutter Top

Wow Butter (1.12 oz x 2) – Buy 6, 1.1 lb Jars for $29.99

This is a peanut-free spread that is supposed to taste like peanut butter. (Spoiler: it doesn’t.) It does have a wonderful, spreadable texture, and could work for kids at nut-free schools. It is a soy-based product but is generally free of other allergens. I feel like at this point I have seen a lot of the nut-free spreads out there and they’re not something I would buy (my husband and I don’t have peanut allergies and buy peanut butter from the grinders at Whole Foods every couple of weeks). But my husband will eat things like this with Triscuits in the afternoons sometimes as a snack, if they are in the house, so they don’t go to waste.

Verdict: The March FitSnack Box had 10 items, which makes the average cost per item about $2.59 (figuring the $25.90 total cost for the box + shipping, and counting the two Orgain Kids and two Wow Butter servings separately). I was not super enthusiastic about some of the items this month (meat sticks, collagen bar, kids’ snacks, peanut butter alternative). However, the fact that the drink mix was there mostly makes up for this, since I will use it all and it has a retail value of $25, leaving just 90 cents to be divided among the other items in the box. The Satisbite chips were also a great find, and of course, the teas are all already gone.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Boxes ship out around the 20th of the month so it is too late to get March’s box.

Value Breakdown: At $25.90 for this box, you are paying about $2.59 per item.
