Elizabeth & Clarke Shirt Subscription Review + Coupon – Spring 2019

Elizabeth & Clarke is a women’s clothing subscription box all about polished, cute tops. They began with the mission of perfecting and extrapolating on the idea of the plain white shirt—though you'll now find pops of classic colors in their designs, the company is still dedicated to creating stylish essentials that are versatile, high-quality, and affordable.

Elizabeth & Clarke only designs a limited amount of new tees, blouses, sweaters, and tops each season, so they are able to keep the prices very reasonable. Each season, you get to preview the tops and pick your favorites. There are usually three new tops and a few classic styles that return from collection to collection. They also offer an "Unstainable" collection, which is just what it sounds like—crisp tops made specifically to resist stains from all sorts of spills (including wine)!

Each season, you can pick the tops you'd like to receive from the seasonal Collection, the Unstainable collection, or from or The Archive (which features shirts from past collections). Or, you leave it up to the folks at Elizabeth & Clarke to decide for you. If a size or style isn't quite right, you can always exchange or return the item. Returns and exchanges are free in the U.S.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Elizabeth & Clarke Spring 2019 Shirt Collection Review

This season, Elizabeth & Clarke introduced 3 new shirt styles in flowy silhouettes and pastel shades perfect for the transition to warmer weather. All three style are Unstainable styles, machine-washable, and dryer-safe!

Here's the invoice for my shirts this season. I'm usually a medium in tops but my 34D bra size can make finding the right size tricky, especially in blouses. I have an hourglass shape and I'm 5'6". Since I wasn't sure what size to pick when I subscribed, I emailed customer service for help. They asked for my measurements (and gave some handy instructions on how to correctly measure) and we ended up going with a size 10 in E&C sizes.

This card introduces each of the pieces in the spring collection.

Each shirt comes neatly folded and sealed in its own bag.

The Nora, Size 10

The Nora is a beautiful 100% vegan silk blouse with long sleeves and delicate pleats down the front. The pale pink shade is a perfect neural alternative to white and would look great paired with any color bottoms. The shape of the blouse looks nice untucked for a flowy look or tucked in for more of a structured look. The neck closure is magnetic so there's no fumbling around trying to button or clasp anything that I can't see. The rose gold shank button details on the cuffs add a touch of glam. I'm happy to report that the fabric is thick and opaque and I don't have any issue with show-through when I wear a light bra.

The Archer, Size 10

I've always underestimated the versatility of a crisp, white sleeveless top which is the perfect layering piece for under my blazers and cardigans as we creep into the warmer spring months. Like the Nora (above), the Archer is made of 100% Unstainable vegan silk that is opaque enough to camouflage a nude bra. It looks great tucked in but is also long enough for me to comfortably wear it untucked with pocketless pants (I know, scandalous, right?) It has bust darts that give it a tailored fit, a hidden button panel with strategically placed top buttons to keep gaping at bay, and bra strap holders at the shoulders to help keep bra straps from showing. I think E&C has literally thought of everything.

The Amherst, Size 10

Now, to the style with a delightfully unexpected bold feature - an oversized ruffle! I see this as a sort of trademark move by the Elizabeth & Clarke designers since they often incorporate non-traditional details into their pieces. I love the lilac shade and thick Ponte de Roma knit of this sleeveless blouse. And, it's really comfortable! Wrinkle-resistant and 100% Unstainable, it's perfect for travel and holds up well to packing. I love that this style, just like the other two, looks fantastic tucked or untucked since it can be styled so differently each way. I'd say of all of the tops, this one feels slightly larger and I probably could go down a size since it has some stretch.

I wanted to show some additional photos of the quality construction and attention to detail that Elizabeth & Clarke uses for each style. I love that the seams are finished and neat, easily stretched areas are reinforced, and that hidden zippers are actually hidden. It may sound super picky, but these are all things that contribute to a great fit and longevity in clothing.

Each shirt comes with a detailed care tag that gives you instructions on how to keep your shirt clean and keep the Unstainable treatment in tip-top shape.

The Verdict: I can't say enough about how impressed I am with my first shirt collection from Elizabeth & Clarke. Each style is versatile, beautiful, and easy-to-wear. Not to mention easy to take care of! Each shirt in this collection is machine-washable, dryer-safe, and Unstainable with care instructions right on the tags. I think I'm most impressed with how well-constructed the styles are and with all of the nifty details like bra strap holders and thoughtful button placement. Customer service is super helpful with answering any questions or helping you to find the right sizing too. So, if you are looking to expand your wardrobe with pieces that can be styled for work or play, are low maintenance, and often include bold, funky details, Elizabeth & Clarke is worth checking out.

This is my first box and I must say I’m SUPER disappointed with the service. Somehow my original box got lost in the mail, so for something that was supposed to ship 2/28, I didn’t receive until the end of March. The fit was off on all 3 shirts, so I returned them and the return process is SO SLOW. I’m also not a huge fan of how the vegan silk clings to your skin.

To those who have subscribed – they send the same tops and colors to everyone? How is the sizing?
I really like this and it looks like the price point is reasonable. As opposed to most clothing boxes. Plus the 3 quarterly looks like the right amount. FYI – groupon has a deal on this for the first box. I decided to try give it a go.

You can choose the 3 seasonal shirts or one of their basics or archived shirts. Sizing has been pretty consistent. I only had to return 1 shirt due to poor sizing and I’ve been subbing since they started. They offer an accurate size chart with each shirt.

Love the colors! These are really fun.

I have always wanted to try this sub but really need petite length blouses. I do wish they could offer that option.

While I loved the review and think it’s really well done I’m bemused that the fabric is referred to as “vegan silk”, so is the fabric polyester? And if that’s the case there is a difference in quality of polyester so by using “vegan silk” are you just referring to the high quality of the material or is that what EC refer to it as?

Hey Jess! Thanks for this great question. I reached out to E&C to get the best answer for you. Here’s what the representative said:

“Our Vegan Silk® is made with a natural, plant-derived cellulose called Lyocell. We blend in 15% microfiber poly to provide durability, resist wrinkles, and make garments washer and dryer-safe, even at high temperatures. We also blend in 3% high-tenacity elastane to provide stretch. From there, we use a technique called mercerization to give the surface a lustrous look and backed the fabric with satin for a silky-soft feel. Finally, we treat the fabric with our Unstainable® finish!”

I hope that helps!

I’m not sure what E&Cs “vegan silk” refers to but in other brands, it refers to peace silk or sometimes silk made out of citrus. Is there anything indicating it’s made of polyester?

I wish I didn’t skip spring. The first 2 shirts are so pretty.

This review made me kind of disappointed that I skipped spring!! I love their shirts….the quality is always amazing and I always get lots of complements on them. I washed one recently and it came out looking brand new. Plus, their customer service is amazing.
