The Detox Box March 2019 Review feat. W3LL PEOPLE

The first of two cards included highlights the featured brand of the month: W3LL PEOPLE with a short bio and Q+A with the three founders.

The next card goes over the six included products on one side and a "5-minute face" using them. I really love that they included this to show how to easily use every item!

I squealed with delight when I opened this month's box since I did not expect to get so many products at once, especially that lean towards makeup! I have also been super curious about this brand, so I was really excited to try all of these! There are two versions of this months box and I ended up with Version 1 which came with the Optimist Lipstick in Soulmate and Kabuki Brush. It's the one I preferred as well, so I got lucky!

Kicking things off is this bronzer powder. I am a pale goth kid at heart as well as on the outside, so bronzer always scares me a little. I don't do much contouring on my face since I wear pretty minimal makeup and don't feel the need to do too much shading. That being said, I tried this bronzer and was pleasantly surprised that it was not very shocking at all. As directed by the 5-minute makeup card, I used the kabuki brush to brush this onto cheeks, hairline, and nose to give my face a super subtle glow. It's one of those things that is probably barely noticeable but also makes a difference. I'm looking forward to trying this more!

Next up is this super fluffy and soft kabuki brush! Only people with version 1 received this and I'm so happy I was one of them. I used to use a kabuki brush for blush only and actually stopped using it quite a while ago, but this one is so nice that I'm gonna come back around on it. I used this for the bronzer I already mentioned as well as the forthcoming invisible powder. The brush itself has a flat top and is a little over 2 inches in diameter so it covers a lot of face in just one sweep. I love the metallic gunmetal handle and white to grey gradation of the bristles. Such a handsome tool!

Here's a product I've done a total 180 on. A great while ago, I would complain about getting a pan of shadow in a box but now I get it. While I still don't own a palette to add this fella to, I can appreciate it on its own without a full spectrum of colors I may not use. I've also surprised myself on how often I've been using this slightly sparkly champagne color since I usually stick with flat mattes. I have darker eyelids, so this color really brightens them up and adds a litter glimmer without adding too much pigment or bold coloring. I've been pairing it with my other unlikely fave eyeshadow from a different past beauty box for a really pretty duo.

W3LL PEOPLE Expressionist Mascara in Black, full-size - Retail Value $21.99

Everyone will receive this item.

This is one of the items I was most excited to try because I saw it in another clean beauty box that I was trying to control myself and not order. This way- I get the best of both worlds! Yay! So other than the packaging being perfectly minimal in my fave colors (grey and black- yes, I'm boring) - I love that (like everything W3LL PEOPLE makes) this is a plant-based formula, cruelty-free, natural, and made with sustainable energy! It also happens to be on best beauty lists by Allure AND Elle Magazines! The mascara comes in black, which is my go-to color and I really like the short plastic bristles of the wand that helps minimize clumps and messes. I've noticed that it doesn't flake at all as some mascaras can which makes me really happy. This doesn't give me ridiculously plump movie star lashes, but it deepens the color of them and makes my eyes POP.

W3LL PEOPLE Bio Brightener Invisible Powder in Universal Glow, full-size - Retail Value $21.99

I go back and forth using finishing powders because I try to keep the products I use to a minimum and can also be into a dewy look from time to time. I brushed this into my T-zone as directed on the 5-minute makeup card and I was impressed with how it did actually visibly minimize my pores and give me a slightly more airbrushed look. It doesn't look or feel cakey either, so I'll be experimenting with this invisible powder more, especially over foundation.

W3LL PEOPLE Optimist Lipstick in Soulmate, full-size - Retail Value $16.99

This is the version 1 variation.

As a self-proclaimed lip product addict, I'm always down to try new lipstick formulas even though I tend to lean towards matte liquids these days. I was immediately drawn to this color since it's a nice rosy taupe and very much in my color palette for lips. I also love the fun way the tube has a button that sort of pops it out to grab on to and lift the lid off of. It gives it a really clean look while closed. Anyhow- I feel like this color changes based on the room I'm in but it's also really creamy and hydrating. Even though it's a matte, it doesn't dry out my lips at all. There is some transfer onto anything you may kiss, but it's easy to reapply so I'll just keep it close when wearing.

swatches on hand

Here are swatches on my hand for (top to bottom) the bronzer, eyeshadow, and lipstick.

UPDATE: For those wanting to see the 5 Minute Face, I went ahead and took a before and after photo since it's a pretty subtle look:

BEFORE

Naked face!

AFTER!

I only used what was in the box and the directions given for the 5 Minute Face, so there is little to no coverage under my eyes or on blemishes. The most noticeable change is the lipstick and mascara, though I can see a bit of difference in my cheeks with the bronzer as well. Just a little warmer overall. What do you think?

Verdict: For $55.00, The Detox Box sent me SIX full-size makeup products worth $204.92 retail that are all plant-based, natural, non-toxic, and cruelty-free with some being organic, all in super slick packing which makes me want to display them in my home. I am SO HAPPY I was able to try all of these different makeup products because while I've got natural skincare on lock, I need to start switching all of my makeup that way too. W3LL PEOPLE is making that look super easy thus far and I'm thankful to The Detox Box for helping facilitate that!! Truly so excited for all of these products!

Hi Marne! What happened to the April Beauty Heroes review? I can no longer find it. 🙁 Will it be re-posted earlier next month?

I really enjoyed this month’s box too. It felt jam packed! I also got version 1. I actually like that the Detox Box does non-skincare boxes on occasion.
