March 2019 Target Beauty Box Review

Target Beauty Box March 2019 - Info Card Front

This month’s box is all about nourishment, starring 6 products to keep your hair and skin happy and healthy.

Target Beauty Box March 2019 - Info Card Back

This info card provides a short description of each item sampled and on the flip side a Target coupon good for $3 off a beauty purchase of $15 or more. This month’s coupon looks a little different than previous months; you have to download the Target app to scan your coupon, then it should show up in your wallet to use at checkout.

Moving on to Target’s nourishing beauty picks!

Target Beauty Box March 2019 - Love Beauty & Planet Smooth and Serene Argan Oil & Lavender Shampoo & Conditioner FrontTarget Beauty Box March 2019 - Love Beauty & Planet Smooth and Serene Argan Oil & Lavender Shampoo & Conditioner Back

Love Beauty & Planet Smooth and Serene Argan Oil & Lavender Shampoo, 3fl oz - Estimated Value $1.55 (Buy 13.5oz for $6.99)

Love Beauty & Planet Smooth and Serene Argan Oil & Lavender Conditioner, 3fl oz - Estimated Value $1.55 (Buy 13.5fl oz for $6.99)

Love Beauty and Planet Smooth and Serene range is paraben, phthalate, silicone, and cruelty-free as well as vegan, which checks all the boxes for me! I’ve never tried their shampoo or conditioner, but this range is very nice. It left my hair feeling squeaky clean, and the conditioner didn’t weigh my hair down at all, great find for everyday use! I also really love the soft lavender scent.

Target Beauty Box March 2019 - Bliss Rose Gold Rescue Gentle Foaming Cleanser Front

Bliss Rose Gold Rescue Gentle Foaming Cleanser, 1fl oz - Estimated Value $1.72 (Buy 6.4oz for $10.99)

I was surprised how much I enjoyed this thick, gentle cleanser. It is formulated with rose flower water and nourishing colloidal gold for extra sensitive skin. I used this in the morning, worked up a lather and massaged my face for about 20 seconds before rinsing, and it left my skin feeling balanced, not stripped. This is definitely my favorite Bliss product I’ve tried so far, except it really smells like essential oils; this makes me a little nervous. Fragrance really irritates my skin, but after using this for two days, I didn’t notice any reactions, fingers crossed!

Target Beauty Box March 2019 - TRESemme Botanique Nourish & Replenish Mask Front Target Beauty Box March 2019 - TRESemme Botanique Nourish & Replenish Mask Back

TRESemme Botanique Nourish & Replenish Mask, 1.5oz - Retail Value $1.99

TRESemme makes really great, affordable hair care, including this mask. I applied a dime size amount from mid-length to my ends and left it on for about 10 minutes. My hair felt so soft and detangled, and the best news is that when I let my hair dry naturally, my hair actually had a wave to it. I love that this mask is sulfate free, and the sweet, soft fragrance isn’t too overpowering. I also really like this bulky sachet because it is so rare for me to go through a whole bottle of hair mask; this will definitely last through many washes for me.

Target Beauty Box March 2019 - SheaMoisture Matcha Green Tea & Probiotics Soothing Toner & Hydrating Mist Front

SheaMoisture Matcha Green Tea & Probiotics Soothing Toner & Hydrating Mist, 2fl oz - Estimated Value $4.88 (Buy 4.5oz for $10.99)

SheaMoisture is my very favorite hair and body care brand. I love all of the fragrances and formulas they offer, and the ingredients they use are always organic and cruelty-free. No nasty chemicals here! I usually use their African Black Soap Toner which is more for acne prone skin, but I was happy to try a different formula. It smells lovely, but don’t overdo it with this one! I sprayed one too many spritzes, and it left my skin feeling sticky. The next time I tried it I held the spray away from my face and gave each side a spritz, the perfect coverage. This gave my skin a little boost in hydration and left it looking dewy, even after applying the rest of my skincare. I like the way this made my skin feel and look, but I happen to like my go-to more for my skin type.

Target Beauty Box March 2019 - SheaMoisture Silicone Free Miracle Styler Leave-In Treatment Front Target Beauty Box March 2019 - SheaMoisture Silicone Free Miracle Styler Leave-In Treatment Back

SheaMoisture Silicone Free Miracle Styler Leave-In Treatment, Full Size! - Retail Value $8.99

I just recently received a very bad haircut, so I was nervous to try a leave-in cream product, which usually this type of product weighs my hair down, but I was pleasantly surprised! I got more layers in my hair than anyone could ever want or need, so I was afraid that this product would make my hair fall flatter, but to my surprise, it gave it a little life! Use this leave-in sparingly if you have bodiless hair (like me), and it will make your hair feel soft, smooth and detangled, the perfect prep for styling. This is more of a thick cream than a leave-in spray, so I would definitely recommend spraying this in your hand instead of directly into your hair. Also, it has a strong, perfumey smell that I personally love but could be a dealbreaker for some.

Verdict: I am so happy Target sampled my favorite brand, SheaMoisture this month - I love these new-to-me products! This box has a total value of $20.69, which is nearly triple the $7 price tag of this box; Target Beauty Box is awesome if you love to sample different brands on the cheap, and the best thing about this box is everything is very travel-friendly. I will definitely use up all of these products, including the $3 coupon, which is always a very welcome bonus to this box.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, as of publication, this box is still available!

Value Breakdown: At $7 for this box, here’s what you are paying approximately per item:

  • Bliss Rose Gold Rescue Gentle Foaming Cleanser: $0.58
  • Love Beauty & Planet Smooth and Serene Shampoo: $0.52
  • Love Beauty & Planet Smooth and Serene Conditioner: $0.52
  • TRESemme Botanique Nourish & Replenish Mask: $0.67
  • SheaMoisture Matcha Toner & Hydrating Mist: $1.65
  • SheaMoisture Miracle Styler Leave-In Treatment: $3.04

I’m a self-proclaimed “cool mom” who loves a little, who am I kidding, a lot of razzle-dazzle. I have been box-obsessed for over 10 years, and I am always on the hunt for new beauty, fun flair and trendy clothing boxes. A fun night for me includes an exfoliating foot mask and a bag of Dot's Pretzels while binging Rupaul’s Drag Race.

Fantastic review, Abby! I hope you do more soon! I really enjoyed the info and that you used everything multiple times/for days. It really impressed me and made the mini-reviews so much more helpful.

I was hoping the hair product would replace my Holy Grail, Davines OI Milk (sooooo pricey) but while the Shea Moisture spray has a lot of good qualities I find if I use a lot of it to combat frizziness or snarls (I have a massive amount of fine, super curly hair) my hair actually seems to get drier and there’s that “I have a lot of product in my hair” feel to it. I also prefer the scent of the OI (which I know a lot of people hate). This SM product also has that same vibe of a cologne leaning perfume scent, but it’s just not the same. Sorry wallet…

Abby

Thank you! I also love Davines Oi Milk! It is one of my very favorite hair products, thanks to Birchbox 🙂

I just tried to order this box and as of today (or maybe sooner i didn’t get last month’s box) Target will no longer ship their boxes for free unless you buy the box and at least $25 more in product.. I am pasting a copy of my chat. I am a nobody, but You Liz are an influencer and I bet you can get a better answer than I can. I won’t buy their boxes anymore if I have to buy more stuff. AND, it wouldn’t let me check out with ONLY the box in my cart, in order to purchase the box I have to spend an additional $25 I couldn’t buy just the beauty box. 🙁 In fact the last box I got was discounted to just $5… I guess this is a move to get people to buy more stuff than just the monthly box.

Check it out,

Thanks

welcome to Target Chat

Myke: Hi! My name is Myke. How can I help you today?

Me: Hi! I’m trying to purchase the March Beauty Box – It’s in my cart. I have two messages one says this item only ships with a $25 order the other says this item ships free. BUT I can’t check out with only this item, It says to edit my cart???

Myke: I can understand your concern, I would love to help you with this.

Me: Thank you

Myke: You’re welcome.

Myke: Loretta, the shipping is free however the item only ships with minimum order value $25.

Me: promotion details
Free standard shipping on this beauty box. Valid for orders shipped to all 50 states and APO/FPO addresses. Offer expires 4/27/2019 at 11:59pm PT.

Me: Then why does it say that? All of the monthly boxes have shipped free?

Myke: The free shipping is on minimum order value of $35.
Myke: The item has a condition to get it shipped.

Me: Why doesn’t it state that in the promotion details?

Myke: It says free shipping, however item says only ships with $25 orders.

Me: I have ordered a number of these boxes previously never more than $7
Me: I copied and pasted DIRECTLY FROM YOUR WEBSITE READ THE DETAILS????

Myke: Such as this item, require a minimum purchase threshold of $25 before the order will be shipped.

Myke: You can meet the $25 threshold with a mix of any items whether they are to be shipped or picked up in store.

Me: I am going to let the Beauty Box Bloggers know that the box no longer ships free so that they can tell all of their followers. I REFUSE to order $25 or more every month from now on to get my box. I will cancel this order. Thank you.

This is my favorite box from Target. It’s definitely worth the price. The sheamoisture left my long thick hair manageable. The shampoo and conditioner smell amazing.

Becky

Just got my March box today and the leave in conditioner pump/sprayer doesn’t work. Lol that’s the reason I bought the box! I submitted a replacement request with Target and it sounds like a replacement is on the way just not sure if it’ll be a whole ‘nother box or just the conditioner.

Just a head’s up in case this is an issue for anyone else – doesn’t seem like they’ll kick up a fuss if you request a replacement.

Nice review btw – you basically talked me into buying it. 🙂 I had decided against it when Target first released it but after reading your review I decided it was worth it to pick one up!

Angela

Just got my two boxes of this today and so thrilled! Amazing box and my fave to date too!

Kelly

I got this box and love it. The Shea moisture hair treatment smells heavenly! I already knew the shampoo and conditioner are great, but the Shea Moisture products were unexpectedly good. Best box in a while for me!

Tammy

Are you sure that the Love Beauty Planet shampoo and conditioner are actually phthalate free? I have been avoiding those products because I didn’t see where it said they were phthalate free anywhere. I assumed since they proudly state all the other chemicals they avoid, they must contain phthalates or they would have specified on the bottle that they didn’t.

Reply ButtonReply

Abby

Hi Tammy! I found that information on the Target website for the shampoo they sampled this month 🙂 “Five free from: Paraben-free, Silicone-free, Dye-free, Cruelty-free, Phthalate-free”

The hair mask made my frizzy hair so soft and let my natural wave come out. I used it at night and the next day I spritzed my hair with a light re-style spray. My hair was so soft for 3 days.

Reply ButtonReply

JuJu

Wait, so does this mean that the coupons can no longer be used online?

Reply ButtonReply

Jakki

There is a code for use online in the lower left corner. You can see she whited out the code in her picture.

I feel like I need this box. The hair care would all be wonderful for my daughter and her over a foot long hair.

Reply ButtonReply

Deborah

I don’t like the new coupon because I do not have a phone.

Reply ButtonReply

Dp

Loved the box except was surprised that leave in styler said to “spray in hands” and it wasn’t a “spray on your hair” application. Didn’t read and sprayed a splat in my hair. Very nice product but prefer direct spray styler.

Reply ButtonReply

Jakki

It says you can spray is in damp hair but to apply to your hands for application on dry hair. I have fine/thin curly hair and have been applying it directly to my hair after towel drying and it’s been great. I shower at night and since I’ve been using this my hair doesn’t get al tangled while I sleep which is a miracle with fine curly hair.

colleen

Have the same kind of hair , Jakki, and I like the shea moisture. I usually run it through my hair and give it a few minutes and am able to comb through tangles with no breakage.

Marion

I’d like to swap for the SheaMoisture items!

Reply ButtonReply

Lisa

Hmmm…..I got the regular coupon.

Reply ButtonReply

Flora

Abby, I find that some mists don’t have as fine as a nozzle that I prefer, I will just spritz one or 2 sprays into my hands and press onto my face like a non-spray toner. Check out Lumene valo mist, that bottle is the bomb!

Reply ButtonReply

Abby

Oh I’ve heard good things about that mist–I’ll have to check it out! Thanks 🙂

I got a normal coupon that comes in all my previous beauty boxes so not sure why yours says to upload to the target app. By far love rhe tresseme hair mask smells amazinf and rhe Sheamositure leave in conditioner..wish it came as a body mist or lotion smells so good!! The Bliss I didnt like rhe smell at all , smells like diesel so wont be using that which is a bummer I love bliss and was excited for that but the smell is unbearable.All.in all Id give the box a 3 out of 5 only because they don’t have as many products as the Feb one and could really start adding at least one or two full size products or even makeup!

Reply ButtonReply

Abby

I loove the smell of the SheaMoisture leave in, too!!

Reply ButtonReply

JuJu

I have used many different hair masks, and IMO the Tresemme ones are consistently the best. It’s too bad they don’t seem to sell them in bigger containers anymore, only in these pouches.

Reply ButtonReply

Luna

I’ll miss the paper coupons (I wouldn’t be surprised if this is how Target will be doing their coupons from now on), as seeing them on my table was always a reminder that I *needed* to go to Target to see what’s new in their beauty section. Now I think I’ll just forget about it if it’s in my phone (I rarely use the Target app).

Reply ButtonReply

pb

i’m the opposite, only use app! once you get used to it, it’s great! forgot the paper coupons every time!

Reply ButtonReply

Luna

Haha! I’ve actually been told that before. I actually get teased a lot because I still use paper coupons! 😀 I’ve thrown the Sephora ladies for a loop a few times already when I showed up with a paper coupon during one of their sales. Lol!!!

B

I got mine today too. Disappointed about the added difficulty of redeeming the coupon. I usually justify buying Target boxes by deducting $3 in my head. They probably realize that people do this and hope that by making it more difficult that less people will cash in on it.
These products seem like they are good quality and a good overall value, but hoping to see more than hair care items next month!

Reply ButtonReply

Jakki

I don’t think that’s their reasoning at all. It just happens to be the case that more and more people don’t like to have paper coupons just like people are moving away from the use of paper money. Unfortunately, that’s not great news for those that still do prefer paper but I think they are appealing to the majority by going digital. The coupon does have an online redemption code so if you don’t use the app there is another solution for you.

bunnygirlbrem

Unfortunately, Love Beauty and Planet isn’t truly cruelty free since its parent company tests on animals. 🙁

Reply ButtonReply

Apricot

But if cruelty-free items are successful then companies which make both will likely be willing to invest in more of them. It isn’t a perfect world so take/make progress where you can.

Reply ButtonReply

bunnygirlbrem

Maybe, but the point is that it’s not actually cruelty free if the company that makes it isn’t.

SG

I loved this box. Favorite Target box to date. The shampoo and conditioner smell amazing, and when paired with the leave in conditioner, my hair dried really soft and straight. Definitely purchasing these 3 items full size.
