Scentbird March 2019 Review

This month, I received Scentbird’s “Scent of the Month.” You can either opt for the scent of the month or you can fill a queue with fragrances of your choosing:

There was what is basically an advertising flyer for this month’s scent, “Fantasia” by Anna Sui.

Fantasia by Anna Sui – Estimated Value $12.27 (buy 30 mL for $46)

This is a little unusual. I found that I actually liked it a bit more, initially, than I did at the end of the day  I can’t think of another time that’s happened. (That’s not to say I disliked it at the end of the day, I guess the top notes were just better for me.)

Top notes are pomelo (citrus fruit sort of similar to grapefruit; I note that Pomelo Paradis by Atelier Cologne is a favorite of mine) and pink pepper. Mid notes are some grouped florals (seriously they are not separated out), praline (so kind of nutty and sweet), and raspberry. Base notes are cypress and cedar, both of which I like. So this ends up being a fruity/woody scent with a little bit of sweetness and a little bit of spice. I can’t really think of anything else that’s similar, to be honest, so from a novelty perspective, this one is great. I think the reason I was less enthusiastic at the end is just that it wears down to something kind of generic (on me at least).

This is maybe not quite as much a hit as last month, but it was a decent selection and was new to me and is one that I will reach for from time to time.

Verdict: The estimated value of my fragrance this month is $12.27, which is less than the month-to-month cost of the subscription. Your value will depend entirely on what fragrance you choose and if you care to do the math beforehand, you can come out pretty well. For me, though, this is more about discovering fragrances that will work for me, and if they have a bit of a lower value, I can deal with that. I had never tried either this particular fragrance or anything from Anna Sui before.

Please note: Some MSA readers have been having trouble getting their Scentbird shipments on time lately so be sure to read the comments on some of the past reviews to get a sense of what the issues are when making the decision to sign up.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, all you have to do is choose this fragrance for your queue.

Value Breakdown: This subscription is $14.95/monthly and this month, I received $12.27 worth of fragrance (but again, this is highly variable based on what scent or product you choose).

Hi Ragan, now that Scentbird has branched its products out beyond perfumes do you think you might give a non-perfume product a try in your subscription?

Ragan

I don’t get to select what they send me, unfortunately. Back when they started doing bath and body, they did occasionally send the new items (or samples of them). So it’s possible I may see some of that anyway.
