Pretty Twee Box March 2019 Review

Our box was packaged up so nicely with the pink and black stickers and the glittery black ribbon. At the top of our box, they included this card that lists all of the items included as well as a brief description of how they should be used. Each month they send 5-6 items along with 2-3 bonus items, based on age and style preferences. This month it looks like we received the higher of both of these for a total of 9 items!

Faux Hair Braided Head Band

This first item is for her to wear when she is feeling whimsical and it definitely brought a smile to our faces! This is just one of those cute and silly novelty items that are fun to have in your dress up bin. The shiny purple hair is fun and I love the little sparkly hearts at the ends. It seems to be pretty good quality for what it is and is constructed well.

Unicorn Horn Rainbow Rhinestone Grosgrain Bow

This purple bow is so pretty and it features so many cute details like the rainbow rhinestones on the unicorn horn and that tiny satin bow at the bottom of it. At first, I thought the horn would be stiff, but it is actually a softer, flexible piece of fabric, which I think is much better since that will probably hold up a lot longer. The bow is nicely made and I think it is very on-trend, especially when you add a unicorn horn to it! It features an alligator clip on the back and the whole bow is really nicely made.

It is also a pretty large bow and it looks so cute in her curly hair.

Magical Bracelet in Bunny

My daughter literally jumped up and down when she saw this next item. She told me that she had been wanting one of these because she saw it on tv when we were at the beach. I had actually seen one of these in an ad a long time ago and thought it was so cool, so needless to say, both of us were so excited that it was included in this box. It looks like there are a ton of these out there with different brand names so pricing is all over the place, but this one is super cute with its clear beads. We have been playing around with it non-stop and I am happy to report that it doesn't show any signs of wear as of yet!

When you pull the tail and head of the bunny, he stretches out. Then you place the end of his tail into a little hole on his head and it turns into a nice little beaded stretch bracelet. She has a little trouble getting it to transform back into an animal, but it's really simple and you just twist the blue leg beads around the larger pink beads. Such a fun accessory and toy!

Pom Pom Doll Keychain

I have seen my fair share of "cheap" toys (ask me how many times I've had to replace the arms on her plastic mermaid doll!) and at first, I thought this might be one of them, but it is actually a much higher quality item than I expected! The plastic is thicker and even the keychain is a heftier weight. The pom is nice and dense and attached to the doll very well. Her head, arms and legs move and her shoes even come off. I love the bright pink color and the jewel on her belly. Her little face is so cute and her hair with that nice pink bow in it just completes her adorable outfit! They recommend attaching her to bags or backpacks, but my daughter is happy just playing with her as a doll for now.

Novelty Doll Ball Point Pen

My daughter loves to draw and lately has even taken to writing the letters of the alphabet so this was a fun new writing utensil for her! I love the purple color and all of the details! Again, this is a nice quality item. The satin polka dot ribbon is attached very firmly to the pen itself, as is the doll. She is very similar to our first doll, but this tutu and big purple bow in her hair might be even cuter!

Magic Unicorn Lip Balm

This little unicorn is cute enough by itself with its sparkly purple mane, but the most exciting part is that it opens up on the bottom to reveal some lip gloss. Even though it seems to have a brand on it, I couldn't locate this exact one online. It smells a little like a fruity Carmex.

I honestly had no idea that my daughter would be excited about this "makeup" but once she saw it was lipgloss she ran upstairs to grab a brush to apply it (where does she get these ideas?). She tried to steal one of my eyeshadow brushes, but fortunately, I was able to stop her before she stuck it into the pot and I gave her an extra one I had that was new. Here she is with her bright shiny lips, proud as can be. I'm in so much trouble when she's a teenager...

BONUS ITEMS:

Unicorn Reflective Compact Mirror

The first bonus item is another one that my daughter was so excited for. She even said "I hope it's a mirror!" and she took this to use for applying her lip gloss. This compact is actually the only item in the box that I would consider to be sort of low quality since the plastic case is a bit cheap feeling. The mirrors inside are glass though and the awesome holographic unicorns on the front totally make up for the lack of quality in my book! It might actually surprise me and hold up a little better than I expect.

She was pretty excited to show it off!

Cotton Sand

This cotton sand was a great toy to include! The sand is so soft and light and almost feels like its melting in your hands, but then it packs together really well and you can mold it easily. This container actually holds a decent amount, too and even came with this cute little fish mold. This is another one of those products where there are a ton of different versions and brands out there, so I was unable to locate this one.

Klean Kolor Nail Polish in Aurora - Retail Value $1.00

This nail color is perfect for a little girl. It is just a clear sparkly pink color with tons of glitter and star shapes throughout. You may notice her nails are dirty and it's because the night before she had colored her nails in marker, so needless to say, I am happy to have a nail polish she likes as opposed to blue marker!

Verdict: I am not sure when or how it happened, but my little four-year-old has turned into a girly-girl and loves all things sparkly, unicorn, and princess-themed, so this Pretty Twee Box could not be more perfect for her! I really enjoyed the mix of adorable and fun items, but what I loved most was just how very excited she was with each new item she pulled from the box. She really has been loving them all, especially her animal bracelet which she wears every day. We received a total of 9 items in this $26.99 ($20.99 + shipping) box and I think that this was a pretty good value for toys and accessories that she is excited about using!

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

Thanks for the review, Brandi. I enjoy reading your kid and mommy box reviews. I would love to see the 8-11 year old box reviewed as well. I have a 10 year old daughter, and I would love to get her her own box. Thank you.

Thanks for the detailed review! 🙂
One of my daughters has the same cute unicorn shirt, with the furry mane. It’s one of her favs.

I have two girls – one of them is very into arts, crafts, outdoors, athleticism, and simplicity. She probably wouldn’t get much out of this box. She’d prefer a kiwi-crate, an engineering box or similar. But the other is into all things sparkly or glittery, makeup, dressup, frills and her second fav color is most decidedly pink. She would LOVE this subscription. And I agree with you, btw… There’s nothing wrong with being that way. Sooooo different, I adore them both in everything they are, and all the ways they love, and choose to live.

The question, “Ugh. Why do we do this to our little girls?” is completely unfair, pretentious and a little ironic in my opinion. The same could be asked of people who “force” gender neutrality on their children. This box is not for all girls. But it is most definitely for some girls!! And to refuse those girls this enjoyment, because of your own idea of what girls “should be” is shameful.

I absolutely LOVE your daughter’s excitement and enjoyment here. Thank-you so much for sharing her with us.

Well put. My girls are the same way, one who loves this kind of stuff and one who doesn’t (although mine are now adults). As I was scrolling through the review pictures, my first thought was “what a lot of cheapo stuff that seems to embarrassingly stereotypical, especially in this day and age,” but seeing Brandi’s daughter’s (and Brandi’s) excitement made me absolutely pull back and rethink. If I had shown this box to my not-interested daughter when she was little, she would have been not interested, no matter what the “norms” were, and that would be that.

The key is acceptance. Do parents who are trying to be gender-neutral/nonstereotyping forbid their daughter to want to be a sparkly princess or their son a hardhat-wearing builder?

I went to the website and the description is “The perfect subscription box for little girls who love the princess culture!” Change that to “The perfect subscription box for children who love fantasy and fairy tales” or something along those lines, and that invites any child who is attracted to that without stereotyping. I’m not a fan of making everything a must-always-make-everyone-happy-all-the-time situation, but changing wording is an easy adjustment here.

She really was so excited! 🙂 Thanks for reading, Starla!

Ugh. Why do we do this to our little girls? Aside from the moon sand it’s just pink, purple, sparkle, unicorns, makeup, hair accessories and mirrors.

Cas

To be clear, I do not specifically object to the “girliness” of the items, but the focus on hair, makeup, and mirrors. There is an emphasis on appearance in these items – which studies show our little girls are far too concerned about and have measurable anxiety and poor self image by the time they are in 1st grade. Unicorns and sparkles are fine but take the focus off appearances. You do not have to agree with me. I did not say to force children to be one way or another. I simply maintain that we do not need to make young girls think their appearance is so important.

And my daughter would love it too!!! What’s wrong with that? Leave kids alone, quit trying to force stuff on them. Not your call.

Michelle

And she loved all of it and so would a lot of other little girls. What is wrong with that? Step back and let others decide what is right for them and their children.

Pamela

And she, and so many other little girls, absolutely love it! What’s the problem with little girls who like sparkles and pink and make up? What’s the problem with boxes that cater to those little girls?

Almost every single one of these items I know is on the shopmissa.com site where everything is $1. The evaluation for dollar site products is silly. I’m sure they get even cheaper in bulk. No thanks.

Hi Shai! I checked out the site that you mentioned, but was unable to find any of the items from this box! Would you mind sharing what items you saw on there? I will be happy to add confirmed retail values to my review! Thanks! 🙂
