Nosejoy February 2019 "Bold Bergamot" Review

Nosejoy usually sends a welcome card with a note from the sub's curator and an info slip that gives a little description of each item in your box. Sometimes there are even subscriber discount codes, and this month is for 15% off of your order at Sam Wish, a small business that's included in Nosejoy every so often, and where the sugar scrub in this month's box is from. Bergamot is a scent I've certainly heard of but couldn't quite place, so I'm excited to see how it pops up throughout this subscription!

Sam Wish Organic Peppermint & Bergamot Sugar Scrub, 4 oz — Retail Value $10

The first sugar scrub I ever used was actually one I made with coffee grounds and cinnamon. It did exactly what I hoped it would do, which was to help me shed some of the dry skin winter had left me with. That was years ago and I haven't made it since, so I was thrilled to see this organic, all-natural, vegan one in my Nosejoy box. I've come into sugar scrubs in sub boxes over the years, but they've all been tiny containers, meant to use just on your lips. This is one I'd definitely feel good using on my body! The peppermint scent is the most noticeable to me, and it's really refreshing.

Here's Sam Wish's business card, which was included in the box. The website links you to her Etsy page, which is as beautifully curated as her handmade products!

SmartyPits Sweet Orange & BergamotMini Deodorant, 0.5 oz — Retail Value $4.49

Ooh, now this is a creative item to have included in a Nosejoy box! Two summers ago I went on quite the natural deodorant journey, determined to find the right one for me. When I say it was a journey, I mean it—I went through phases of rash, itchiness, smelliness, and all (sorry if that's TMI). I finally landed on one from l'Occitane that I love, but it's pretty expensive so I'm pleased to have this travel size alternative to try. Similar to the scrub, the primary scent here is the non-bergamot one—this deodorant has a nice, subtle orange aroma to it. I liked catching faint whiffs of it throughout the day, even though it's not a common scent for a deodorant. Of course it's winter so I'm not actively sweaty, but it worked just fine for me after a day of trial!

Hand in Hand Soap Cactus Blossom Body Wash, 10 oz — Retail Value $14

Honestly, I love everything about this body wash. Shall I list them? First of all, the reason why we're all here: its scent is glorious. Yet again, I'm not sure I can detect the bergamot in there but maybe it's what's adding an earthiness to the basil scent. So good. Next up, it's vegan and cruelty-free. Always things I look for in beauty and hygiene products and I'm delighted that they're becoming easier to find. It's also free of palm oil, which is a big one for my family. Palm oil is in SO many things and is said to be a big player in the issue of deforestation. We have been making a point to avoid it, and honestly, it's surprisingly difficult. Next up, this wash is made in the USA, and has a charitable component: for every product purchased, a bar of soap and a month of clean water is donated is donated to a child in Haiti who is in need. Finally, and this is more kudos for Nosejoy than the body wash, its lid is taped to avoid leaking in the mail. It's that attention to detail that makes this box the amazing experience that it is!

Tiny Kitchen Soap Co. Bliss Room & Linen Spray, 2 fl oz — Retail Value $9.99

I've received a number of room sprays in subscription boxes over time, and I'm not always sure what to do with them. I have two placed in my bathroom—unfortunately, they rarely get used, though—and have given many as gifts. Perhaps if I hosted overnight guests more often, I'd spray their linens when I made the bed, but alas, I do not. Does anyone have any other ideas for uses for something like this? Anyway, as far as the scent goes, it's another blissful one with a beautiful blend of citrus, florals, including lavender, and that our elusive star, bergamot. It's handmade in small batches (does anyone else love seeing the batch number handwritten on the bottle?) in the USA, not tested on animals, and made from natural fragrances. If I could find a good steady use for it, I'd enjoy it all the time!

Verdict: Lately I've had so much fun seeing what kind of out-of-the-box items Emily chooses to include in Nosejoy, and February was no exception. A deodorant is such a cool idea! And, I've been loving how she hasn't shied away from soaps and other cleansing products—that's a surefire way to ensure they'll actually get used. I'm very happy with this month's selection, including the room spray since it smells so lovely. Value-wise, this month's items just exceeded the cost of the box (which is $34.95 with free shipping) by adding up to $38.48. The past few months have had a value way above the box's cost, so I'm OK with a value that's closer to breaking even this time around! After all, seeing what unique items were chosen and exploring their scents is half the fun, and adds experiential value, in my opinion.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, your subscription will start with the March box. Sign up by the 15th to get that month's box.

I want to subscribe to this but i couldn’t afford it 😔 with 3 months of this i could buy 2 quarterly subs instead (give and take). Don’t get me wrong, the value IS there. You get to pay a discount and free shipping instead of paying individually for small batch, hard to find products. I’m just too poor for it XD lovely curation though

The value isn’t very high but I think this curation is really good! Surprisingly, I don’t think I’ve ever smelled bergamot lol

I use linen sprays as shoe refreshers and I always keep a bottle in my car to make it smell nice too!

Molly

Both of those are great ideas!

In addition to some of the things others listed here to use room sprays for, … I like them for are curtains, furniture cushions, on faux greenery, I just make sure the ingredients are okay to spray on fabric. I make my own for the bed linens with distilled water, veg. glycerin and lavender essential oil and use it daily.

Faux greenery is a greaaat idea. Thanks for sharing!

I adore bergamot scents. They’ve opted to some more unusual fragrance combinations here, which I think is really cool. (I find bergamot to be most often combined with woodsy notes.) I also think it’s really smart, since their box caters to people who are already fans of scented items — it means they’re likely to experience something new & unique from this box.

Christen, my favorite bergamot scent is Atelier Cologne’s Bergamote Soleil. That’s the scent I immediately think of whenever I see a description of a bergamot scent.

I’ll have to check out the perfume. Thanks for suggesting!

Bergamot is one of my favorite scents! I had a demeter perfume ages ago called earl grey which was basically just bergamot and I loved it so so much. Hmm. I wonder if they still make it!

Marion

Anne, they do! Earl Grey was my gateway Demeter purchase. I have soooo many now (and yet there’s still so many I want to try & haven’t yet!). Demeter has an event right now on Zulily.

Room sprays are also good for the bathroom, for obvious reasons.

I use room and linin sprays in the bathroom and like spraying my extra pillow (which I end up hugging while I sleep) with it. It’s actually one of the products I use regularly. I’ve found some all time favorite scents in Nosejoy.

To use up all of the room sprays I’ve received in boxes (well, I think they’re labeled more like aromatherapy sprays), I always use them right as I’m getting into bed by just doing a couple of spritzes above the middle of my bed. It’s just enough for the scent not to be overpowering as I get in bed, and since I spray it in the middle I just get little whiffs of it as I’m winding down in bed.

I use room sprays in my trash cans when I change the liner bags
