Look Fantastic February 2019 booklet cover

Each box comes with a booklet that tells you more about the products included with tips on how to use them. The month is the Romance Edition and the pink box couldn't be prettier! I always love keeping Look Fantastic boxes around to store makeup, jewelry, and other important things in because they are always so sturdy and beautiful.

Look Fantastic February 2019 ordinary hyaluronic acid Look Fantastic February 2019 ordinary hyaluronic acid back info Look Fantastic February 2019 ordinary hyaluronic aciddetail

The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2%, 30 ml - FULL SIZE! Retail Value $7.00

The Ordinary is one of those brands that had so much hype when it launched, and as a lover of minimal packaging and totally attainable prices, I bought up a ton of it at launch, including this formula. I love this brand, but this is likely my least favorite product from them, mainly because it is SO sticky and leaves a film on my skin. Applying moisturizer on top does help with this, but I have never stuck to using this one. It does provide a ton of moisture to dry skin, so I get why many people reach for it daily. It would likely be a great moisturizer for someone with oily or acne prone skin, when creams are just too much for their pores and skin. If you want to buy my absolute favorite product from this line, give their AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution a try. It is one of the products I use religiously because I see nearly instant results. And at $7 a bottle, it isn't a huge risk!

Morphe Mini Highlighter, 3 g – Estimated Value $6.75 (Buy a full size 8 g here for $18.00)

This highlighter is so wearable! I am really impressed by how fine the shimmer is, making it a great choice for your more subtle looks. The golden glow is flattering on my pale skin and super buildable. As usual, I also tried it as an eyeliner, which was so minimal and very pretty. It also was lovely on my collarbones adding just a little bit of dewiness. This is a sample size, but it is quite generous and should last a long time. The full-size price of $18 makes it a no brainer to replace when I run out.

I tried to swatch this one lighter to heavier, so you get a little bit of an idea of how buildable it is.

Omorovicza Cleansing Foam, 1.01 fl oz – Estimated Value $16.16 (Buy a full size 5 fl oz here for $80.00)

This stuff smells great! Sort of like a mix of greens and florals. It is a pale blue color and has a lumpy and slightly odd texture. It was super refreshing and felt like it went straight to my pores when I washed my face with it. Even though it is a foam, it really wasn't that foamy and remained pretty creamy for me. It had a cooling effect on my skin when I dried my face, which was very refreshing and though all the makeup was gone, I didn't feel like it stripped my skin. I really liked the formula, but the retail price is a bit of a jump for me. Luckily, this sample is a great size and will last a long time.

Rituals The Ritual of Sakura Soothing Hand Balm, 70 ml – FULL SIZE! Retail Value $13.00

This formula is great, so I was sad when I concluded that I didn't like the scent. It is very sweet, creamy, and floral, and I tend to lean a little more masculine in my fragrance choices. For those sweet scent lovers though, this is a total win, smells super girly, and very appropriate for spring. The formula was creamy and absorbed quickly, leaving my hands looking really well moisturized. The size of the tube is large, but not so big that it doesn't make a perfect purse cream on the go!

Look Fantastic February 2019 smart charcoal mask Look Fantastic February 2019 smart charcoal mack back info Look Fantastic February 2019 smart charcoal mask detail

Madara Smart Anti-Pollution Charcoal and Mud Repair Max, 12.5 ml - Estimated Value $6.67 (Buy a full size 60 ml here for $32.00)

I avoid charcoal and clay masks because I find them drying, but my husband stole this as soon as I got home. He is on a serious quest to be poreless (or at least shrink his pores), and while this goal has eluded me my entire adult life,  I wish him the best. He loves clay and charcoal masks and he loved the smell of this one and the thinner consistency. He did mention that it was hard to wash off but that his skin felt great after. This formula contains black mud and charcoal, so f you are looking for a skin detox and boost of antioxidants, you will enjoy this one!

EOS Lip Balm, 7 g - Retail Value $3.29

I love these little spherical lip balms. They are so cute and the dome shape feels great on my lips when applying. This white version really has no remarkable scent, which is just fine and leaves my lips very moisturized. This is a good all-purpose balm for anyone, but if you prefer bells and whistles, this one might be underwhelming for you.

And this box includes the latest issue of  Elle UK Magazine:

The Verdict: This month's Look Fantastic Beauty Box was a great example of really great products and value that just didn't contain anything that got me super excited. This doesn't mean it wasn't an awesome box, but there just weren't any real standouts for my skincare/beauty needs. Fans of The Ordinary will be thrilled with a full-size bottle from this brand, and if you love sugary florals the hand cream was a total win for you. The cleansing foam was really nice and I will enjoy adding it to my stash. I always love getting a lip balm that I can stash all over my house/car/purse/office like a squirrel, and I really did love the Morphe highlighter. The value was absolutely there, I mean the retail value of this box is $52.87, which is good for a $20 box, not including the magazine. It might just come down to the products being hit or miss for your personal preferences, though aside from the highlighter, I don't know that there were really any universal wins this month.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes! (This page will let you know what box is currently available.)

Value Breakdown: At $19.99 for this box, the average cost of each of the 6 items is $3.33.

Alternatively, here is approximately what you are paying per product:

  • The Ordinary Serum $2.65
  • Highlighter $2.55
  • Face Wash $6.11
  • Hand Cream $4.92
  • Charcoal Mask $2.52

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

Guys this is a UK based box and in the UK Mothers Day is at the end of March. That’s why they have a mother’s day box before an Easter box.

I liked this box. I’m tempted to sub.

Funny I just bought your Ordinary recommendation, Megan! Haven’t tried it yet, but thinking Monday. This was a solid box, but seriously, what do people do with all these highlighters? Every cheap makeup sub box gives us one every time!

Items I am swearing off for the rest of my life:

Highlighters
Lipgloss
Contour palettes (still don’t understand these)
Dark eyeshadow

Reply ButtonReply

Dawn

And black eyeliner

Sharalyn Maughan

I totally agree, Snowhitetwin. If I never get another highlighter it will be too soon for me. My swearing off list:

Highlighters
Bronzers
Red lipstick
Contour palettes

I literally use that Ordinary mask once a week. Sometimes twice. It is hardcore though, so maybe try it once and see how many days a week work for you. It also looks like blood on your face (so cute!) so wear a dark top!

Good to know and I am glad you recommended this product (and not the one included in the box.) Your reviews are honest and refreshing, which I greatly appreciate!!

Emilia

This is a solid box – and I almost never say that :)).

in response to your husband’s comment about removing the mask, have him use a make-up eraser next time. they really work wonders – it’s easier and gentler than using a wash cloth.

Lola

Maybe soaking a warm cloth on his face to loosen up the mask to remove the mask easier. Or a wet sponge which will act as an exfoliator. Real techniques has a two pack of mask removal sponges for sale. Dampen sponge press again skin t loosen and then wipe off, rinse and dry.

Excellent tip! I will let him know!

Lilly

Hyaluronic acid should be the cornerstone of every anti-aging skincare program ( in the absence of allergies or sensitivity).
However, and I don’t mean to burst any bubbles, a 3% concentration of Hyaluronic acid such as The Ordinary’s serum, is negligible.

The reason it feels sticky is because it’s largely additives. How do I know?
Because ” The Bentley” of HA is likely Peter Thomas Roth’s
Water Drench Hyaluronic Cloud Serum, which is 75% Hyaluronic Acid.

Since HA is not an irritant in the absence of a personal intolerance, the greater the concentration, the better the results as HA is a humectant, meaning it adds moisture to the dermal layers and helps improve moisture retention without adding oils, and is an anti-aging base which should be applied next to the skin after gentle cleansing in a serum ( pure liquid) form.

Great Post, Lily !

Luna

Some hyaluronic acids I have are almost water-like in consistency. Does that mean it has a higher concentration? Thanks for sharing your knowledge. 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Megan K.

this was super informative! Thanks for taking the time to leave this info Lilly. All the other Hyaluronic acids I have tried haven’t been sticky like this one, so the breakdown you explained makes total sense. I do love most of The Ordinary’s line, but I agree that there is something ‘off’ and ineffective about this one for sure.

Reply ButtonReply

Nanners

Agreed, Lilly! I’ve seen and used HA skincare with up to 97% concentration (e.g. Elizavecca Hyaluronic Acid 97% Serum—my favorite) and I’ve rarely seen HA formulations that would be considered sticky. And I’m all about lightweight, non-sticky skincare. While I typically love The Ordinary products, this 2% HA one doesn’t seem noteworthy.

Where do you order Elizavecca products? I have seen them on Amazon but am leery about not getting genuine products.

Luna

Hi Megan! So what was the sneak peek for next month’s box on the back of the booklet? They usually put it there, and since photos are taken of the full booklet, in the future can you start showing the back of the booklet too?

I’m really excited about this box. With the exception of the highlighter, everything will be loved. 🙂

Megan K.

Hey Luna! As mentioned, it was just a promo for the cute Easter LE box. We can make sure to include that in the future though!

Reply ButtonReply

Luna

Thanks Megan! The reviews usually get posted days before I get my box, and my curiosity is always dying to know what the spoiler is on the back of the booklet. 🙂

Barb

I wonder why the Easter box would be released after the Mother’s Day box.

KB

My booklet sneak peak is the Easter box— no product info just indication it will be available soon.

Luna

Cool. Thanks for sharing!
I still hope that the back of booklet is shown in future reviews. 🙂

Rachel

I’m surprised at the lack luster response to this box– it’s the first one I’m excited about since subscribing in Nov or December. To each her own. 😉

Megan K.

Totally! I think nothing really just stuck for me this time. There is always next month! 😉

I’m also very excited about this box. Even though the value is a little lower than normal, they are all great products that will actually be used. I prefer this to an inflated value box where we get 1/4 oz of a $200/oz serum and it makes it seem like it’s a much better value than it really is.

I am an annual subscriber and at $16 per month, it’s a box I always look forward to.

Luna

I’m excited for it! 😀

LF is one sub I keep pretty consistently. I love the variety – ordered 2 boxes this month for the Omorovica, tbh. Nice review…~~~~~!!!!! excited for my box(es)!

I do have to admit, this months box is very disappointing. I haven’t received it yet, hopefully this week and I do not look forward to ANYTHING, EXCEPT for the Omorovicza Cleansing Foam which I wish it was a full size!

Reply ButtonReply

Flora

That’s the only thing I would be excited for as well, not enough to get me to sub though since it isn’t a larger size.

I absolutely love this face wash. I still have some from last April when they included it, so I jumped on this box. Looks to be bigger than last year’s, but it really does last a long time. You don’t need much!!
