What Is Le Tote?

If you don't know about Le Tote, they're a clothing rental service that allows you to wear and hang on to clothing and accessories as long as you'd like with no commitment to buy them (although you will be charged each month, regardless of if you send your tote back to get a new one or not). If you do happen to fall in love with something, you can purchase it at a discounted rate (and I'll mention that they also have further "tote sales" at times). They offer regular and maternity subscriptions in several levels from 8-15 pieces at a time. You don't have a stylist, but their system will suggest items based on a series of questions when you first sign up and you'll also have full control to swap out anything you don't like before it ships. I usually choose ALL of my items, but Le Tote has made a few good suggestions that I've kept in the tote.

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

About Le Tote

The Subscription Box: Le Tote

The Cost: $79/month for 8 items, $99/month for 10 items, $119/month for 15 items. Subscriptions get cheaper with the omission of accessories.

The Products: Rent 8, 10, or 15 pieces of clothing and accessories for as long as you like with the option to purchase with a discount.

Ships to: Contiguous 48 States in the USA (no Hawaii, Puerto Rico, APO/FPO, or Alaska, unfortunately).

How Le Tote Works

If you're curious as to how the signup process works, I wrote a more in-depth article in October when I received my first delivery and walked through every step of the way. If you're new to Le Tote, that's a great place to start! I also wrote some tips on how to get the sizing right, and how to style your items with your existing wardrobe.

You'll receive a personalized pamphlet with your clothes.

Inside, it goes over what's in your tote and all of the prices. There's often an additional tote sale price marked in red.

You'll also receive a pre-paid mailer to return any of the clothing and accessories you don't end up purchasing.

They've also included a $50 gift card to get $25 off your first two deliveries from Hello Fresh.

This Month's Le Tote Clothing & Accessories

Spring is so close to being sprung upon us, so I went a little bit out of my normal deary color scheme and chose some slightly more colorful pieces to celebrate.

The tote package I have includes three accessories. If you choose jewelry pieces, they'll come in their own baggies, inside a bubble pouch that you'll also use to return them in.

Kate Spade New York Studded Ball Bracelet - Retail Value $48.00 (Le Tote Price $38.00)

Each time I browse my jewelry options, I often end up choosing Kate Spade items by default. I think I'm just naturally drawn to the designs. Bracelets are always winners for me and this brassy antique gold colored half-bangle spoke to me. It reminds me a little of the beloved cat bracelet I got a couple of months back in how it has a chain fastening it to my wrist, but this one has some simple round studs adorning the band. It also has two Kate Spade charms dangling from it to give a little extra flare. This fits my wrist really well and should prove to be a well-worn piece by the end of the month.

BCBGeneration Square Head Ring - Retail Value $20.00 (Le Tote Price $16.00)

Rings are another go-to accessory for me and this unique square one by BCBG caught my eye. It's a little large, but I noticed that since it's open at the front, it can be sized slightly to fit. It's not as comfortable as I would like, but I suppose that should be a given for a square ring that goes on a round finger. It's also a bit chunkier than I normally wear, but I still like the look of it. It probably won't be a daily accessory but I'll put this baby out for a night on the town.

Here are both items on!

BCBGeneration Double Key Necklace - Retail Value $20.00 (Le Tote Price $15.00)

One of the things I find difficult about shopping (or renting) online is not really getting the details of an item. Part of that is my fault for maybe not zooming in on images or paying as close attention as I should, but I saw this necklace and was like "Oh, these keys are cool" but upon receiving saw that they say "Peace" and "Love" and the one is encrusted with rhinestones: none of which are really my style. Ah well! You win some, you lose some. This necklace won't be getting much use but there's always at least one item like that. I do like the length of it so I can easily just put it on over my head instead of fastening and unfastening a tiny clasp.

Summer & Sage Embroidered Heart Sweatshirt, size medium - Retail Value $58.00 (Le Tote Price $48.00)

Maybe you can tell by the photo, but this is my favorite item of the tote this month. I have a sea of heather grey clothing, especially sweatshirts, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it, right? The small red embroidered heart gives it a little touch of something cute on an otherwise plain sweatshirt so I don't feel too boring. I just really like the relaxed fit on this and it's SUPER soft and comfortable. It's also a great thickness so while Spring is on its way, it's still chilly as heck here in the 'Burgh.

Calvin Klein Jeans Iconic Hoodie, size medium - Retail Value $70.00 (Le Tote $54.00)

Something about Calvin Klein is just classic. I remember being obsessed with CK One as a young teen and thought it was SO COOL that is was a unisex fragrance. Their clothes have always seemed so simple and wearable to me as well which is why I think I'm still drawn to some items today. Ever since my friend gifted me a "millennial pink" Baggu bag I had complimented her black version of, I've thought I could pull this color off (basically because she told me I could). I am always dripping in grey and black, so I thought this soft color would be a nice transition to Springtime. I live in loungewear and jeans, so I always have several hoodies on hand and they've become security blankets to me. This one is slightly cropped, a bit loose, and has a subtle monochrome and slightly puffy "Calvin" branding across the front. Not super unlike the black one I got in my very first Le Tote delivery.

Levi's High Rise Metallic Skinny Jean, size 29 - Retail Value $60.00 (Le Tote Price $50.00)

Remember when I talked about the downside of shopping online for me? These jeans are another item I wasn't quite expecting. I guess I'm not sure what I thought "metallic" meant, but it is clear now that it means "sparkly". Its a little hard to tell, but these jeans are woven with a metallic silver thread as well to give them a glittery appearance. Sparkles are not something in my wardrobe's lexicon so these scare me quite a bit. If anything, I'd go for a more waxed cotton look for jeans, but mainly stay to flat colored fabrics. I was surprised these size 29 fit pretty well though they are quite tight. They're also a little long, but that's common for my 5'3" height. Only time will tell if I'll be wearing these babies out.

Charlie Jade Multi-Striped Blouse, size small - Retail Value $70.00 (Le Tote $45.00)

Boom! Look at your girl with her Easter colored stripes! Teal, pink, and yellow accompany the white and grey stripes in this button down to conjure up bunnies and eggs. I'm always trying to find button downs that I like to appear a touch more put together than I would seem wearing a t-shirt, so I thought I'd give this cheery number a whirl. I like the overall fit, but there was a bit of pulling at the chest if I waved my arms around too much. The top button at the collar is gold and the rest are hidden under an extra strip of fabric to give this shirt cleaner lines which I can appreciate. The top isn't super long either so it can be easily tucked into pants or a skirt for a more polished look.

BCBGeneration Plunge Front Skinny Overall, size 29 - Retail Value $128.00 (Le Tote Price $108.00)

That's right, folks. I cannot get enough of overalls. Sadly, these "plunge neck" versions are not the best fit for me. Granted, this bulky sweatshirt isn't the best thing to wear under it, but the straps that are adjustable can only be tightened so much and I think these were made for someone with a longer torso than I. The front flapped around a little too much and just didn't want to lay in a flattering way. I love the way these looked on the model on the Le Tote website, but I guarantee she isn't my height. There are a zipper and button fastening at the side to make these easier to get in and out of but I don't think I'll be getting much wear out of these.

818 Side Cut Out Dress, size medium - Retail Value $70.00 (Le Tote Price $64.00)

This dress is SO FREAKING SOFT. The fabric is like some sort of faux-silk. It feels so nice but is way more wearable than silk. This is the ultimate comfort dress and the same blush pink color as the Calvin Klein hoody I also picked out. My favorite part is the cutouts on each side so I can easily reveal the tattoo on my ribs that lets everyone know what toppings I like on my pizza (that's pepperoni, mushrooms, and black olives if you can't tell). The band at the side is situated perfectly to cover up the bralette I'm wearing so I can stay supported while wearing this piece. My only qualm is that the fabric IS so soft and light that it does not forgive anything beneath that you may feel the need to "hide". Hiding your body is so outdated though, right? I need to be more proud of every part of me, no matter how lumpy it may be in my eyes. But note, any undies worn will definitely have lines. 😉

Summer & Sage Cropped Sherpa Jacket, size medium - Retail Value $82.00 (Le Tote Price $68.00)

My best friend has been sending me links to all sorts of teddy bear jackets and sweaters to look at since she is trying to find one she likes. I didn't think I was into the trend until I picked this jacket for my tote without thinking twice. Thanks a lot, ALICIA! 😉 Seriously though, how cute is this cropped bomber jacket? It's a little too furry for Spring maybe, but since the weather is ever-transitioning I have a feeling it'll be fine. The fuzzy light grey fabric is warm yet on this lighter silouette of a jacket it doesn't seem too heavy. The interior is lined with a heather grey t-shirt material which I enjoy quite a bit and there are two front pockets to jam my hands into if I get chilly. The groundhog popped it's head up to say I'll be wearing this jacket a lot over the next month! 😛

Verdict: This month I tried to choose some items in Le Tote that could be layered and help me through this wild changing weather we've been having. A little cold, a little warm, and some slightly brighter colors to help lure Spring out of hiding! Not all of the items I chose were winners once they arrived, but everything fit pretty well. I learned to be more detail-oriented when picking things out and pay closer attention to things that may come as a surprise once they arrive in person.

The dress might be a bit more forgiving if you wear a slip under it, Marne. They even have slips with built-in cups and underwear. It won’t hide any pooch, pouch, puffs, poofs, fluff, gin jelly, alcohol/food baby or cinnamon rolls, but it should stop visible panty lines. (I’m sure I missed some bumps, humps, and lumps slang, but you get my point).

I think the dress looks nice on you the way it is though. Oh, the “sparkle” on the jeans: does it stay on the fabric or does it rub off?

I’m going to have to email them. I’ve been using Le Tote for about two years and the 5 clothing/3 accessory option is the largest they have available for regular subscribers.
