KitNipBox March 2019 Review
KitNipBox has monthly themes. Around holidays, they are holiday themes, but you can never predict what it’ll be at other times. This month it was a sports theme:
The information card included a list of items in the box. They included values and I have used a lot of these below because KitNipBox toys can be hard to find for sale online.
‘R Squad Pompom Dangler – Listed Value $6
Danglers are always good choices for my kitties. This was a particular favorite of Angus and of Sneaky, although Sneaky liked the string end more than the actual toy (she’s like that).
Football Toy – Estimated Value $5
There was a different item listed on the information card, but KitNipBox usually gives a $5 value for the small catnip toys so that’s what I’ve used here (that was also the value listed for the other item). This is a distressed leather football (no idea if it’s real leather or not, though likely not) and my cats like the texture. (One thing KitNipBox is usually quite good about is providing toys with many different textures, which is something that really interests my cats.) This feels like it is free of stuffing, which is also great.
Safemade Hockey Stick Kicker – Listed Value $5
This is a kicker style toy, but skinnier than most. It’s got some catnip and is fairly lightweight. I’ve put this in the home office for Angus to play with at night (we have to shut him out of the bedroom because he makes a lot of noise) but I have caught Monkey in there playing with it a time or two.
All for Paws Hot Dog Toss Toy – Listed Value $5
This is a fuzzy-textured catnip plush. Mr. Kitty wanted to rub his face on it (though he looks quite asleep in the photos below). This is a good size for rolling around with and I suspect Monkey will be doing some more of that pretty soon.
Leap All Catnip Basketball Jersey – Listed Value $5
This has a smoother texture than some of the other toys (again, great variation in textures) and Monkey spent a long time licking it. Madison expressed some interest, too, but as you will see below, Madison had a mini-emergency and didn’t get to play with this box’s items much when I was taking photos (don’t worry, he is fine now).
Wellness Kittles Grain-Free Chicken and Cranberries Recipe Crunchy Treats – Retail Value $2.37
These are crunchy treats that we’re familiar with from past cat subscription boxes. They come in a resealable package. Sneaky and Monkey both liked them (and Madison got a few later on after we took the photos). Wellness is a pretty good brand, I think.
Baseball Wand – Listed Value $7
This is another case of Sneaky and Angus liking the same toy (don’t tell them that!). There is usually a wand in this box and I am happy with that – we’ve received lots of different styles. This one also has a feather, which seems to be attached pretty well.
Gratuitous cat photos:
Sorry these are a little out of focus; Angus always wants to play with toys from weird locations.
Monkey mostly wanted to hang out in the sunny window although he did seem excited for treats.
Sneaky also wanted to hang out in the sunny window. She did spare a moment for the string part of the dangler toy.
Mr. Kitty was conked out. He spends most of his afternoons here now. Gets there on his own, down a flight of stairs, despite being completely blind. Good for him.
You may wonder why there is only one picture of Madison. Well, when I was taking these photos, I noticed one of his claws looked funny. Come to find out, it had grown so long it was pressing into his paw! So I called the vet immediately and then ran him out there. Turns out he had THREE overgrown claws but a nail trim took care of it and now I know to be on the lookout for that. Anyway, worth checking if you have an older cat (he is about 12) as senior kitties sometimes don’t shed claws as well as they used to.
Verdict: I calculated a value of $35.37 for the March KitNipBox, which is above the cost of the box by a little more than $5. I know I haven’t provided links for most of the products, and that’s because I can’t usually find these brands for sale at retail prices online. I do occasionally see these brands in other cat subscription boxes, and I have found them at wholesale websites before (just not with retail prices), so while I don’t think you would be able to find some (or all) of these items at stores, I feel like KitNipBox is probably sourcing them from wholesale suppliers, which is a perfectly reasonable thing to do. Once again, we are happy with all the different textures (smooth, fuzzy, aged leather, etc.) and getting both a wand and a dangler was a win for Sneaky and Angus. The treats were also appreciated.
