If you aren’t familiar with Golden Tote, here’s a really quick intro: Every month, a new "collection" of seasonally appropriate, trend-conscious clothing is added to their collection. Depending on the subscription level you choose, you can pick out 1-2 pieces from those options, and Golden Tote will surprise you with the rest. The surprise items are completely different from the collections you pick from. Golden Tote also offers a Surprise Tote, where you choose your preferred size but leave all the picking up to the stylists at Golden Tote.

Golden Tote offers a $149.00 Golden Tote (5 clothing items), or $59.00 Mini Tote (2 clothing items). Both allow you to pick at least one of your items. There's also a Surprise Tote (3 clothing items all picked by Golden Tote) for $89.00.

This is a review of the 5-item Golden Tote, which is $149.00. This month, I selected 2 of the items for my 5-item tote and they add 3 surprise items.

And for those of you asking, yes, everything does arrive in a literal tote! I love this month's Spring-y design!

Golden Tote $149 Tote February 2019 packing info

Here's my invoice. Now onto the items!

Golden Tote $149 Tote February 2019 leopard print top front

Golden Tote $149 Tote February 2019 leopard print blouse back

Leopard Luster Blouse - Estimated Value: $40

This top was the first item I selected for my tote. I like it, but I wish it were longer on me, enough for me to comfortably wear with some leggings and boots. I think it's supposed to be that way because the back is longer than the front; I think my height just throws that off for me. I'll still get some wear out of this, though!

Golden Tote $149 Tote February 2019 lace up sweatshirt

Golden Tote $149 Tote February 2019 lace up sweatshirt 2

Lace Up Henley Sweatshirt - Retail Value: $42

This oatmeal-colored sweatshirt with a lace-up detail was my second selected item, and I love it! The proportions are long enough to work well for me, and the fabric is soft and easy to wear. I love the lace-up detail at the neckline to add some interest to this nice basic piece.

Golden Tote $149 Tote February 2019 striped cardigan

Golden Tote $149 Tote February 2019 striped cardigan back

Debut Striped Cardigan - Estimated Value: $40

This off-white cardigan has light pink, mustard yellow, olive green, and maroon stripes. It's basically all the trendy colors in one cardigan so it can pair well with so many different tops.

Golden Tote $149 Tote February 2019 floral hoodie

Golden Tote $149 Tote February 2019 floral hoodie back

Chris & Carol Floral Sweatshirt - Estimated Value: $40

This sweatshirt is great! It's lightweight and made out of a stretchy tee shirt material. I also really like the color scheme and print. Comfy! It's a winner.

Golden Tote $149 Tote February 2019 dress

Chris & Carol Midi Dress - Estimated Value: $40

I really like this dress - it's really comfortable, stretchy, and flattering. I giggled to myself when I saw that the dress was labeled a "midi dress" on the packing sheet because it's an at-the-knee dress on me. I love the three-quarter sleeve and how the dress is a complete outfit, easy to throw on and go.

The Verdict: My February Golden Tote was a good one! I really like everything this month. Golden Tote has been a favorite subscription of mine for years. One of my top tips is to read the clothing descriptions and know the measurements of how long you like your dresses and inseams, and note if the fabrics are stretch or not and which you prefer.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Sign up now to start shopping regular totes! There's no telling what pieces Golden Tote will pick for you, but each month's new collection is launched at 12 EST the first Monday of every month.

Value Breakdown: My estimated retail values (based on the prices listed when viewing this tote in my order history) add up to $202. This box costs a total of $149. Averaged out, for the 5 items in the tote you’re paying about $29.80 per item.

That dress looks great on you! Fellow tall girl here (6ft!) So I totally get the struggle of things being shorter in length on us. But you still rocked it! Cute shirts too.

Cute! My fave is that floral top. That dress would probably be a maxi on me!

This is a great tote for you – everything works although I’m sure you wouldn’t mind the dress being a couple inches longer.

“This box was sent to us at no cost for review.” I’ve asked this question before on a clothing review, and after my question was posted and several readers chimed in with “I’d like to know too”, MSA removed these comments instead of answering the question. Please answer it:

Does Haley have to pay for the items that she keeps if the box was sent to you at no cost for review?

Hi, Julia! I saw your question about this on my February 2019 Daily Look review and answered this there, but you pointed out that you couldn’t see those comments – turns out there was some weird back end website issue where it was bringing up a different version of the web page that didn’t show comments (technical website issues I don’t fully understand). We didn’t delete them! 🙂 Thanks to you pointing this out we got it corrected and all the comments are showing again.

And just to clarify/re-answer here, getting a clothing box sent at no cost to review means we don’t pay the styling fee, but reviewers don’t get to keep all the items for free. What we keep or return is still determined by our own budgets. And other readers who commented here are correct: because Golden Tote doesn’t charge a styling fee, just the up front cost of the whole tote, that cost is comped.

I hope that helps, Julia, and thank you for pointing out that technical issue for us!

If there’s a styling fee that is waived but the individual reviewer has to pay for anything they keep. Golden Tote has no styling fee so yes the clothes are sent free.

Jen

Omg they have answered a million times on other posts. They don’t pay the styling fee but they have to pay for the clothes. Since Golden Tote doesn’t have a styling fee the reviewer gets these particular clothes for free. So if there’s a styling fee they don’t pay it but the individual reviewer has to pay for whatever they keep. This has been said a million times.

No need to be rude! She clearly hasn’t seen the “million other times” it’s been answered… And it matters because if something is free vs paid for out of your own pocket, it can skew your view of it one way or the other (sometimes unknowingly).

Jenn

Why does it matter?

Reply ButtonReply

Jen

Because people are nosy and think they are entitled to know everyone else’s business.

MzBev

I have often wondered about that, with these clothing subs.

I love that dress! It looks fantastic on you! That lace-up Henley looks super cute and cozy too! 🙂

Looking great as always, Haley! That henley was an excellent choice. The floral sweatshirt is super cute and flattering, but that dress….Yowza! It looks both pretty and comfortable and like it was tailor made especially for you! Very versatile. Once it gets warmer, you could wear it casually with some Keds or Toms-type shoes to the park for a play date, or you could even throw it on with some bold gold jewelry and cute sandals for an adult date night! I bet a lightweight short/waist-length white cardigan would pair nicely as well. I think this is the best Golden Tote I’ve ever seen!

I’ve always enjoyed reading the reviews but don’t believe enough pieces would fit me well or suit my taste to make it worthwhile to gamble. Mainly because my lower half is a 10-12 but the upper is a 14-16. I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t have many, if any at all, tops or dresses I could get into. If I ever lose more weight in my chest I will definitely give them a try. 😁
