DIY Decor Craft Box “Lace Mason Jar with Twine and Flowers” Review

This is my second DIY Décor Craft Box, and although I did enjoy the project last month, I was hoping that this month the project would be a little more involved and teach me some new tricks.

There isn’t an insert in the box and I really wish that a good image of the final product was included in the box. The first step in my process is to unbox all of the materials to see what I was working with.

I received a standard mason jar, a handful of torn up lace, a single larger lace ribbon, some twine, 3 individual silk flowers, a small tube of glue, a pink solo cup, a small paintbrush, and the box contained some tissue paper as packing, which is included in the contents of the box and to be used as your work surface.

There is a homemade booklet with instructions and some photos of what the project should look like as your progress through the steps.

DIY Décor Craft Box February 2019 - Lace Pieces Top

The first thing that I did was lay out my lace pieces, to try to understand what I had to work with.

DIY Décor Craft Box February 2019 - After Apply Some Glue On Lace Pieces On Jar Top

The next step was to apply some glue (it seemed to be like an Elmer’s-style product, but I’m not sure what specific glue it was, but it went on white and dried clear) with the paintbrush. The pink solo cup was included as a rinse cup for your paintbrush. After the glue was spread onto a part of the glass, you are to simply stick the torn-up lace to it in a random pattern until you get the coverage you desire. I found it difficult to get the lace to lay flat, and only had enough glue for about half coverage. More glue should have definitely been included, and perhaps an overlay product to make the lace lay flat.

DIY Décor Craft Box February 2019 - Glued-on lace Arround Jar Top

After you’re happy with the glued-on lace, you wrap the lace ribbon around the mouth of the jar and screw on the cap.

Then, you fold down the lace to cover the metal ring.

DIY Décor Craft Box February 2019 - Little Silk Flowers Top

Now, it’s time to apply the silk flowers. The instructions simply have you wrap the stem together. I’m a fan of symmetry and I wasn’t a fan of the 2 red and 1 white combo. I couldn’t find a way that looked balanced, I would have preferred 3 different colors. To be completely honest, these flowers weren’t really my style at all, although I’m sure some may really like the small bud style flowers. Personally, I think I would have gone with more of a greenery look if I were picking these materials out in the craft store or if I was going to make additional versions of this décor project.

DIY Décor Craft Box February 2019 - Flowers Wrap Around the neck of jar Top

Holding the lace down, the next step is to take the twine and start to wrap it around the neck of the jar.

DIY Décor Craft Box February 2019 - covering the stem Top

After a few rounds, you start to incorporate the flower stem, covering the stem and weaving the twine around both the flower and the jar until only a short tail is left, which you then knot off behind the flowers so that it doesn’t show.

And this is the finished product. I think I would use it by adding in a small votive candle or some potpourri (which would have been a nice addition to this box and help to round out this craft). I do wish that the top wasn’t completely open, If I had more lace I probably would have covered it with the material.

Verdict: I did not calculate a value for DIY Décor Craft Box because the materials were unbranded and not labeled. I like that every item that you needed was included, although I would have liked a better quality and higher value materials and more glue. I think calling this a subscription for crafters of all ages and skill levels is generous – I think this was a simple, basic craft that would likely appeal more to a beginning crafter than someone seasoned. This craft took about 30 minutes, and I honestly don’t feel that this box felt like a $28 value, which is the cost of the subscription.

The Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if I sign-up today? If you order today, your first box will be March.

Value Breakdown: This box costs $28, including free shipping, and you get all of the material needed to complete this project.

Oh wow. I thought I had seen it all. But a subscription box where they charge you $28 for $2 worth of materials 😱?

The instructions in word doc printed in a home printer 🙈 please stop! I am embarrassed by the curators of this box. So greedy. $28??? If you are beginning and amateurs, at least be more humble with your pricing! $9.99 or $12.99 would have been sufficient if not too much for this “craft”.

You were too kind reviewing this rip off 🌹

You could buy a case of jars, a yard of cheap lace, glue, brushes, etc. all for less than $28. If you wanted to do this project.

I am glad that you have reviewed this box. It certainly saves readers from higher expectations and purchasing this script. I also appreciate your honest review. I would have been angry if I had even paid $10 for this. I think that with more thought and decent quality material this type of subscription could be a lot of fun.
