Cuddle Crate Review February 2019 - Box Closed Top

Cuddle Crate
3.3 overall rating

Cuddle Crate is a monthly subscription box for pets. You can opt for a dog box (choose your dog size), a cat box, or a small animal box (select gerbil/hamster or rabbit/guinea pig). You can also combine pet types with higher tier subscriptions (i.e., get a combined cat/rabbit box) and opt for a bimonthly box if monthly is too often for you. This is a review of the cat option.

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Cuddle Crate February 2019 Review

Cuddle Crate typically sends out a variety of toy types as well as (usually) one package of treats if you have the single pet type option selected. Let’s see what the cats got this month:

Cuddle Crate Review February 2019 - Information Booklet Top

They’ve moved away from an information card listing the items in the box and instead are directing you to a URL where you can look up more information about the items.

Cuddle Crate Review February 2019 - Ethical Nice Catch Insect Top

Ethical Nice Catch Insect – Retail Value $7.75

These toys kind of gross me out because they remind me of the time Sneaky caught a live roach and was CARRYING IT AROUND IN HER MOUTH. I still have nightmares about that. (Naturally, she thought it was the greatest thing ever!) Anyway, the most interesting parts of this for my kitties are the stringy legs. This is a small-to-medium-sized toy.

Cuddle Crate Review February 2019 - Multipet Katz Kuddlerz Top

Multipet Katz Kuddlerz

This is a kicker style toy, but it is smaller than some other kickers. (I actually couldn’t find this one for sale online.) My cats are less into kicking it around and wrestling with it than they are into chewing on the feathers but hey, whatever works.

Cuddle Crate Review February 2019 - Jackson Galaxy Puma Paw Woven Balls Top

Jackson Galaxy Puma Paw Woven Balls – Retail Value $4.99 (found on sale here for $3.95)

We have received these in several past cat subscription boxes (I don’t recall which ones). At any rate, now I have two cats (Monkey and Angus) who like batting ball toys around so I have put these in our home office (which is a bit farther from the stairs so there is less chance they’ll be knocked downstairs where Nyx would get them).

Cuddle Crate Review February 2019 - Petlinks Hypernip Kookie Kutie Top

Petlinks Hypernip Kookie Kutie – Retail Value $5.99 (found on sale here for $4.09)

This is a mouse (I guess?) but it has a lot of interesting textures like fur and feathers and hemp twine arms. My cats are very interested in toys with a lot of interesting textures (especially feathers) and this also has silvervine in addition to catnip (some cats respond more to silvervine than to catnip; Madison is one of them).

Cuddle Crate Review February 2019 - Redbarn Protein Puffs Salmon Flavor Top

Redbarn Protein Puffs Salmon Flavor (1 oz) – Retail Value $3.19

These smell like fish food! Honestly, they would probably work as food for larger fish. They do have chicken liver and milk protein in addition to salmon, so they may not be appropriate for cats with especially sensitive stomachs, but Sneaky and Madison enjoyed them.

Gratuitous cat photos ahead:

Angus really liked those woven balls a lot. He also sniffed some of the other toys with interest.

Madison was a little grumpy when I posed him with toys, but he perked up for treats.

Cuddle Crate Review February 2019 - Monkey 1 TopCuddle Crate Review February 2019 - Monkey 2 FrontCuddle Crate Review February 2019 - Monkey 3 Front

Lately, Monkey has not wanted to play with toys on camera. But I have caught him – multiple times – sneaking into the home office to play with toys I left there for Angus. I think this is kind of fun since he is an older guy (probably about 13 years?).

I’m not so sure Mr. Kitty knows there are toys next to him. At least he seems to be getting over his pancreatitis and he has stopped losing weight.

Verdict: I didn’t calculate a total value for the February Cuddle Crate for cats subscription box because I couldn’t find the Kuddlerz item for sale online and all the items I found that were sort of similar were much larger in size. The other four items together had a value of $21.92, which leaves about $8.03 for the kicker toy. Based on the price of larger kicker toys, I can see this one being about $8, which means you basically break even. This box happened to work for us because the variety of items provided something of interest to nearly every one of my cats (not counting Mr. Kitty here because he is old, chronically ill, and blind and can’t have most treats and doesn’t play much anymore).

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? February boxes all ship about the same time, so no. Also, there is some customization involved, especially for the multi-pet boxes, so there may be some variation even among February boxes. At any rate, it is now March and your first box would arrive in March.

Value Breakdown: The four items I found values for total about $21.92, leaving $8.03 for the kicker toy. I would estimate that you are about breaking even with this month’s shipment.

I love the kitty pictures. And I think my cat would love that insect!

Mardi Gras colors, which caught my eye, but that large insect with the stringy legs and bell rear end is pretty creepy. I can imagine cats loving all of those toys. What a great box–for the pets.
