Our Review

Crime Con Advert with Coupon Code and Unabalmer Lip Balm

Crime Con is an annual true crimes themed convention that is being held this year in New Orleans! Last year, The Dateline NBC correspondents were the headliners. For a true crimes fanatic like me, I would have been freaking out internally being in the same room as Keith Morrison! Various podcast hosts, writers, and journalists make up for speakers at the event. Included in this month’s Creepy Crate is a coupon for a ticket to the Crime Con and a punny lip balm! Pretty neat!

Creepy Crate Winter 2019 Review - Ed Gein Birthday Card by Depressive Ghoul With Envelope TopCreepy Crate Winter 2019 Review - Ed Gein Birthday Card by Depressive Ghoul Top

Ed Gein Birthday Card by Depressive Ghoul—Retail Value $5

Have a friend that is a true crime buff? Why not give them a serial killer themed card from Depressive Ghoul at Etsy? Personally, I will stick with something less macabre to celebrate another spin around the sun, but hey that’s just me! The card features a handmade drawing of Gein with a punny tagline. The inside of the card is empty for you to write whatever you like.

Creepy Crate Winter 2019 Review - Murder, Lies, and Cover-Ups by David Gardner Front topCreepy Crate Winter 2019 Review - Murder, Lies, and Cover-Ups by David Gardner Back Top

Murder, Lies, and Cover-Ups by David Gardner—Retail Value $16.99

This book touches on the deaths of historical figures Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, JFK, and Princess Diana. The author, David Gardner, worked with recently declassified FBI files, crime analysts, and forensic experts to come to new conclusions about these deaths. Was Elvis actually a hero? Was Marilyn taken out due to her involvement with the Kennedy brothers? Was Princess Di’s death not an accident after all? Who requested JFK’s assassination? This is an interesting and worthwhile read for sure.

Creepy Crate Winter 2019 Review - Crime Scene Tape Socks Top

Crime Scene Tape Socks—Retail Value $12

This box’s selection also included these Crime Scene Tape socks. These are unisex for both men and women to wear. The socks have ample stretch and are super comfy. My ankles are a bit thicker, so these come up about two inches or so above my ankle. If you are slimmer, they will probably go up almost mid-calf.

The Lineup’s 2019 Unsolved Mysteries Calendar—Retail Value $20

I am a true crime fanatic and have been since I was a youngster. One could easily date it back to my fascination with shows like America’s Most Wanted and Unsolved Mysteries. The theme song of the latter still sends chills down my spine when I hear it. Naturally, this calendar appeals to me on that level, yet is rather unsettling and chilling. The art in this is incredibly well done and each month provides a brief detailed summary on the crimes illustrated. The one that strikes me the most is that of the Zodiac Victim, Darlene Ferrin. My heart breaks for her still, especially since she left a baby behind at the time of her senseless murder. I go out to the Bay Area every summer, so this case is always on my mind during my travels.

Creepy Crate Winter 2019 Review - Sleeping with Danger Pillow Case TopCreepy Crate Winter 2019 Review - Sleeping with Danger Pillow Case Closer

Sleeping with Danger Pillow Case—Retail Value $15

Finally, this box features a pillowcase. It isn’t just any pillowcase, though—it is covered with drawings of John Wayne Gacy, Jeffrey Dahmer, and Ted Bundy. Talk about creepy, right? The fabric is standard cotton with the art printed on one side. The case is big enough to hold a standard pillow. You can rest uneasily with the boys while watching your favorite murder documentary on ID or Netflix.

Verdict: This Creepy Crate is guilty; guilty of being creepy good! This month’s theme was centered on True Crimes. I am impressed with the high-quality items you receive in this box: for $39.99 I got a book, pillowcase, socks, greeting card, and lip balm/ discount code for the Crime Con. For the items, I totaled a retail value of $64.98. That is a $24.99 savings and a killer deal! If you are a true crime or horror movie buff, this box is ideal for you-- I cannot recommend it enough!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you will receive the April/May box.

Your box will ship on the 15th of every other month. Please order by the 7th to get the current box.

Well, this is certainly…unique! I’m rather fascinated by true crime, too, but definitely couldn’t sleep on that pillowcase! I suppose it could be something to put in a guest room if you don’t like having repeat guests… Love the socks!
