Collections by Joya March 2019 Review

Most months, I open my Collections by Joya to find a card featuring a jewelry-bedecked model. This month's image is the same as February's and features stacked bracelets and rings. Loved it then, love it now!

On the back is a little About blurb, which I'm glad to see as I felt it was lacking in previous boxes. It's set up like a postcard so you can send it along to a friend to spread the word about this amazing brand if you so wish!

Each month's jewelry comes tucked in a canvas pouch! Since my February box came to me late, I had the distinct pleasure of experiencing that jittery feeling of anticipation before opening this pouch twice in one month! Here's what I received in my March subscription:

A bracelet, a necklace, and a pair of earrings. Nice variety!

Mixed Metal Cuff — Retail Value $58.95

Well, I suppose it was bound to happen eventually, but for the first time I received a product I've already gotten before in a previous Joya box. I couldn't find which box it came in first, but I think it was one of my early shipments, so it must have been over a year ago. Once, I received the same pair of earrings in a different colorway (I considered keeping them but ultimately gifted them), but this is exactly this same bracelet that I've been sent before. That's okay! I don't expect them to keep track of such things. I personally don't love this cuff, but it's versatile enough that it would make a great gift for someone whose style I may not be super familiar with, thus giving me more gift recipient options than my usual go-to's!

As you can see, this bracelet dangles pretty loosely on my wrist. This is how it fits without squeezing it to tighten it at all, but even after I did adjust it, it was still pretty jangly. I used to love that feeling and sound, but now I'm in a phase of my life (as a new mother and someone whose accessories must not interfere with getting things done!) where that type of accessory just too distracting. It's pretty and well-made, though!

San Miguel Earrings, Labradorite — Retail Value $68.95

The earrings I was sent this month are my favorite item in the box. I am a daily earring-wearer and love pairing big, bold danglies with even jeans and a T-shirt (like I did last month). But, my bias aside, this is just an especially unique and exciting pair!

Friends, I wasn't going anywhere that might warrant a blouse and red lipstick—I wasn't going anywhere at all, in fact, and I wiped the lipstick off after I took these photos—I was just inspired by my new earrings to play dress-up, I suppose! The next day I wore them with a solid black tunic, a duster cardigan, and black skinnies. Today I'm wearing them with a fuzzy sweater, overalls, and Doc Martens. These are my new favorites, I think, and the labradorite works well for me on them!

Howlite Delicate Necklace — Retail Value $48.95

In my history as a reviewer of the Collections by Joya subscription box, the necklaces I've been sent have been somewhat hit or miss. But, I've had some awesome surprises lately, and this month's necklace falls into that "Wow, I didn't think I'd like this, but I actually love it" category. Definitely not something I would have chosen for myself, but it's feeling right!

Here, I'm wearing the necklace on its shortest setting. For how simple it is, it manages to be pretty unique. I'm excited to experiment with wearing it with various tops and dresses!

It didn't even occur to me until now that February's box was missing the usual gifting box that's included. No matter—I have a few saved up from previous months. They're good for gifting all sorts of things, not just Joya pieces I've decided to move along.

Verdict: Joya has done it again! Even though this box included a duplicate piece (which was one I didn't love to begin with), this month's selection is still satisfying for me because of how much I love the earrings and was pleasantly surprised by the necklace!

This box costs $49.95, including free shipping. The earrings and two necklaces add up to $176.85, which, as always, is an incredible deal.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No. Order by 4/8 to get the April box!

Value Breakdown: At $49.95 for this box, here's approx. what you're paying approximately per item:

  • Mixed Metal Cuff: $16.64
  • San Miguel Earrings: $19.46
  • Howlite Necklace: $13.82

Alternatively, each piece of jewelry has an average cost of $16.65.

Hi there, I'm Christen. I am all sorts of things:

🌳 a writer who loves to convey feeling

🌲 a mother who wants to have just as much fun as my kids do

🌳 an outdoors-lover who's achieved #1000hoursoutside with my family

🌲 a low-maintenance self-carer

🌳 a general hungry person with an unstoppable sweet tooth

You'll find me collecting stationery and squirreling away stickers, riding bikes and swimming with my family, creating outfits in colors and silhouettes that make me feel amazing, wearing big earrings, drinking beer and asking my husband to feed me harmonies to sing, taking my vitamins, living for dancing to live music, roping everyone into a craft, being human and vulnerable, and celebrating the phenomenon of being alive.

...and doing it all with energy, delight, and jokes along the way.

I also received the same bracelet- again. It’s from May 2018. Less than 1 year ago! I am most definitely NOT ok with that and will be reaching out to their CS. (They are totally outstanding)

The other two items I received are different from yours – their lapis hemisphere necklace and …something else I can’t quite remember! Obviously not their best box.

I don’t receive nearly enough lapis in my Joya boxes, it’s such a beautiful color! I agree that their CS team is amazing, and I’m glad you’re reaching out. If you think to, come back and let us know how it was resolved!

Christen: Okay, I don’t subscribe to this box, but I completely loved reading this review and I will tell you why:

1. Your use of the word “jangly”. That word is not used enough and it made me happy.
2. Honesty: You didn’t love the bracelet – thanks for letting us know!
3. Thanks for calling us all friends. We like you too.
4. I love how you just broke it down and let us know that you weren’t going anywhere and wiped that lipstick right off after the picture was taken. So relatable!

Haha! Thank you for saying so, Christy! This is a fun one to review and I often find that you lovely readers out there are on my same page. 🙂

Christy, I love that you took the time to post this. I agree. And I do subscribe. I also got the same bracelet, but I know several people that love mixed metals. So it’s an easy gift.
I got two different other pieces, but like you understand that sometimes it may be hit or miss. I am 1.5 years into subscribing and this is the first time I got an exact duplicate. My other 2 pieces are a blue lapis. Gives me an excuse to buy some blue or neutral clothing to go with it! Or gift it’s as a set!

P.s. this is my favorite subscription box by far. It is always a surprise!
