First and foremost, let's take a look at the gorgeous packaging for this month's "hero". I know I can be a sucker, but I think it's important that luxury brands pay attention to detail when presenting their product!
The box this "powder-to-paste" cleanser comes in is square with baby blue accents including a ribbon that keeps the lid sealed with a sticker on the back.
There is also a quote from founder Annee de Mamiel.
It also comes with a small booklet that goes in-depth about their whole product line.
The bottle itself matches the box with a black glass bottle with blue and gold text that feels high end.
The directions suggest using daily, or twice a week for more sensitive skin. It can also be used as a mask if left on for 10 minutes after cleansing.
The powder looks like a fine pale cocoa but contains ingredients like montmorillonite white clay, colloidal oats, marshmallow, ginseng, Gotu Kola, and vitamin c powder. I tapped an estimated teaspoon of the powder into my damp palm and began to sprinkle water on top to slowly mix into a paste. Honestly, I don't love powdered cleansers as I feel like it can get a little messy, especially for daily use. It also takes some patience and practice to get the right consistency. The hue turns to a deeper brown color once activated with water and once it's a good texture, I began to spread it on my face in circular motions. There is a little bit of grit in here, so while you're cleansing, it's also scrubbing ever so slightly to get rid of any dull skin. Once I felt adequately cleansed, I splashed water on my face to wash away and used a soft cloth to help when needed. While this definitely made my skin look fresh and clean, overall it was a little bit more of a process than I want to do every time I need to wash my face.

The accompanying product this month is a trial sized jar of the skin recovery blend.
Right off the bat, I'm a little obsessed with the scent of this. This has a slew of soothing, calming, and clarifying ingredients that can be great for acne-prone skin, but once again I am lured in by blue tansy. Has blue tansy always been around? Is it having a moment, like turmeric? I need to know more! It's apparently a flower native to Morocco from the chamomile family and has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties which can really help out our skin.
I really love the blue color of this balm (which is the color blue tansy turns when it's steam distilled). I normally shy away from little jars of dense product due to my long nails, but this one is just outrageously wonderful smelling and I was really interested to see how it goes from a solid to a serum once warmed between my fingers. I scooped a little out and started to rub it between my fingers of both hands before then smoothing it all over my face and neck. How heavenly! It's certainly a really dewy balm that gives my face a nice sheen that doesn't soak in very quickly. For me, this is better used in the evening almost as a night treatment but I just love the way it feels on my skin- which is super hydrating while the calm-inducing smell helps me relax.
Verdict: April's Beauty Heroes introduced me to new ways to use everyday products. A cleanser in powder form and a serum in a solid balm is definitely unique! In the case of the powder, I don't necessarily feel it's the right delivery method for me, but the balm is really blowing my mind. While of course, I wish I had a full size of that product, I'm overjoyed to have been introduced to this brand and learn more about blue tansy! This month had a retail value of $105.00 for the monthly cost of $42.95 so the value is certainly there!
