The Vegan Cuts Beauty Box is a monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. All of their products are vegan (and they tend to be natural, too). They also typically include a nice mix of full-size and sample beauty items. Vegan Cuts also offers a monthly Snack Box and quarterly Makeup Box.

This review is of the Vegan Cuts Beauty, $22.95 a month, box.

Vegan Cuts sends a single package to subscribers who get both the beauty and snack boxes. The beauty items are separated into a little bag. (If you do not get the snack box, I don’t think you get the little bag.)

Vegan Cuts sent us this box for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Vegan Cuts Beauty Box February 2019 Review

The Vegan Cuts Beauty Box usually contains a variety of hair care, skincare, and bath and body products. There’s often one makeup product, as well:

Each Vegan Cuts Beauty Box comes with an information card detailing the items for that month.

Vegan Cuts Beauty Box Review February 2019 - Velvet Report Dry Sheet Mask Top

Velvet Report Dry Sheet Mask – Retail Value $16

I like sheet masks, but this was not a pleasant experience for me. There are loops that go over your ears and this did kind of stretch the mask out and give it contact with my face, but it didn’t touch my chin at all, and the edges around the eye holes were super uncomfortable against my skin the whole time I was wearing it. I also don’t feel like it actually *did* anything. I mean, I followed the directions but my skin felt exactly the same after as before.

This is supposed to be reusable but I am grossed out by the idea of reusing sheet masks, I feel like it’s just asking for bacteria to grow and be transferred to my skin. And even if you do reuse it, it is $8 per use which is not a good price for a sheet mask. You can find Korean ones (there are some vegan Korean masks if you go looking) for a lot cheaper. This was interesting to try but it just did not work for me.

Vegan Cuts Beauty Box Review February 2019 - Delia Organics Lip Nectar Top

Delia Organics Lip Nectar (0.33 fl oz) – Retail Value $19.99

I did feel this was moisturizing, and it had a pleasant scent, but it did not have any staying power. One of the benefits listed on the product page was to moisturize your lips without a waxy feeling, but my own thought would be to use this for moisture prior to using a waxy product to seal the benefits in. This has some essential oils that contain antioxidants as well as act as natural fragrances.

Vegan Cuts Beauty Box Review February 2019 - Derma E Vitamin C Concentrated Serum Top

Derma E Vitamin C Concentrated Serum (0.25 fl oz) – Estimated Value $3.06 (buy 2 oz for $24.50)

This was listed on the information card as a bonus item. I do like this and it actually works pretty well (well, it absorbs quickly and doesn’t leave my skin sticky, anyway – the thing about antioxidant skincare is you can’t actually *see* it working but it should result in smoother skin with less discoloration when used consistently over time). Some Derma E samples we’ve gotten from Vegan Cuts in the past have been dried out but this one was still in good shape.

Vegan Cuts Beauty Box Review February 2019 - 103 Collection Antioxidant Facial Toner Top

103 Collection Antioxidant Facial Toner (1 fl oz) – Estimated Value $5 (buy 2 fl oz for $9.99)

This is a new brand for me. It is alcohol-free, which I do like for wintertime when it is dry outside. This has vitamin C (an antioxidant) and some B vitamins and also several anti-acne ingredients like willow bark (a source of salicylic acid) and tea tree oil. This didn’t have a strong scent and it also seems effective at removing those stubborn traces of makeup that my cleansing routine didn’t get.

Vegan Cuts Beauty Box Review February 2019 - Dr. Brite Berrylicious Natural Vitamin C Toothpaste Top

Dr. Brite Berrylicious Natural Vitamin C Toothpaste (2 oz) – Estimated Value $4.40 (buy 5 oz for $10.99, found here for $7.99)

I really don’t understand the obsession with fluoride-free toothpaste. (No, small children shouldn’t have fluoride due to the dangers of swallowing, but this shouldn’t be an issue for most adults.) I will only use toothpaste with fluoride because I really don’t want to deal with any more cavities. But, perhaps I will pass this along to someone with a child who is just learning to brush.

Vegan Cuts Beauty Box Review February 2019 - Pur Chrome Glaze High Shine Lip Gloss in Rebel Top

Pur Chrome Glaze High Shine Lip Gloss in Rebel – Retail Value $18

Always happy to see a full-sized lip product in a bold color. Especially now that I am done with my Invisalign and can wear something other than light pink lip gloss again (taking the Invisalign out caused streaks of lip product across my cheek…). Unfortunately, this didn’t have the best performance. It went on kind of streaky (blotting on a Kleenex helped) and feathered around the edges a bit by the end of the day.

Vegan Cuts Beauty Box Review February 2019 - Swatch Of Lip Gloss Top

Here is a swatch of the lip gloss.

Verdict: I calculated a value of $66.45 for this month’s Vegan Cuts Beauty Box. That is right around three times the cost of the subscription. I feel that the mix of items is representative for a typical month and does a good job of showing a selection of the full spectrum of vegan beauty items available. I also liked the mix of niche or independent and major brands. In terms of the actual items themselves, this was maybe not the best month for me, although the toner was a bright spot and I would be interested in exploring other items from 103 Collection in the future.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? You will receive the March box. Order by the end of the month to get that month's box.

Value Breakdown: At $22.95 for the box, you are paying approximately the following per item:

  • Sheet mask $5.53
  • Lip nectar $6.90
  • Serum $1.06
  • Toner $1.73
  • Toothpaste $1.52
  • Lip gloss $6.22

I don’t understand the whole fluoride-free thing either, and it can be problematic looking for cruelty-free toothpaste that actually has fluoride. I had bad teeth as a kid, along with years of braces, so I really don’t want to risk anything by going fluoride-free.

I was very excited about the toothpaste. We’ll use it for travel. We only use fluoride-free toothpaste. Fluoride is toxic. My husband and I and our two college-aged kids have used fluoride-free for years. The dentist tells us we have very clean teeth and take good care of them. No problems or cavities. My husband did a big research project on fluoride for school years ago. Nasty stuff. There’s two schools of thought on it… you are on one side, and I’m on the other. Just putting my two scents in. Thank you for your review and trying the products… now I’m afraid to try the sheet mask. 😉

Thank you. I have done a lot of research too, and found a great dentist who agrees.

Toxic in what amount, though?

Beccah

It’s toxic in any amount. It is one of the most toxic substances in the planet. Right up there with mercury & aluminum.

MrsLittle

Right, the dose makes the poison. Even water can be toxic in high enough doses.
