My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Book Summary:

As the last child in a family of daughters, seventeen-year-old Janneke was raised to be the male heir. While her sisters were becoming wives and mothers, she was taught to hunt, track, and fight. On the day her village was burned to the ground, Janneke―as the only survivor―was taken captive by the malicious Lydian and eventually sent to work for his nephew Soren.

Janneke’s survival in the court of merciless monsters has come at the cost of her connection to the human world. And when the Goblin King’s death ignites an ancient hunt for the next king, Soren senses an opportunity for her to finally fully accept the ways of the brutal Permafrost. But every action he takes to bring her deeper into his world only shows him that a little humanity isn’t bad―especially when it comes to those you care about.

Through every battle they survive, Janneke’s loyalty to Soren deepens. After dangerous truths are revealed, Janneke must choose between holding on or letting go of her last connections to a world she no longer belongs to. She must make the right choice to save the only thing keeping both worlds from crumbling.

This book is shaping out to be a great read! Of the recent The Bookish Box YA selections, this is by far my favorite. I’m immediately captivated by Janneke’s plot, the backstory of her encounters with evil Lydian and her current relationship with her new master Loren. Goblins killed Janneke’s family, enslaved her and now she’s been under the rulership of Loren for the past 100 years. As a human in Permafrost ruled by goblins, Janneke has leveraged the skills taught by her father to survive. She’s built a relationship Loren who trusts her. He wants to turn her into a goblin and take her on the hunt to determine the new goblin king. But, does she trust him? Can you really be friends with someone who has held you captive? What does it mean for her to trade in her humanity and become a goblin? I can’t wait to find out!

The Verdict: I'm loving this month's book and I recommend it if you're looking for a good read. This book does have sensitive subjects. Be sure to read the authors forward and make sure there aren't any topics that would trigger you or you wouldn't want your young adult to read about. I also really liked the goodies included in this month’s box – especially the shower steamer and ring. As always, I love how Bookish Box sets a theme and carries it throughout the books and book-related items. All incorporated fairytales in one way or the other. And, finally, I’m consistently impressed with the diversity of partnerships featured in this box. They do an excellent job highlighting artist.

This Bookish Box costs $36.49 ($28.99 + $7.50 shipping to GA) and has a listed retail value of $78.99. Although I think the listed values are a little high, the total is still more than double the price of the box itself making it a good value for a newly released book and unique book inspired goodies.

I see a couple of fun things in this box. I’ve looked at past reviews and think I have to get next month’s with the time travel theme. Wonder is something will be Outlander?
