Target Beauty Box – Women’s Maxing & Relaxing February 2019-Mud Mask FrontTarget Beauty Box – Women’s Maxing & Relaxing February 2019-Mud Mask Back

SheaMoisture Coconut & Hibiscus Mud Mask Packette, FULL SIZE! – Retail Value $2.99

This mud mask is made of coconut oil, shea butter, hibiscus flower, and songyi mushroom extracts and other natural and organic ingredients. Perfect for dull skin, this purifying mask cleanses and hydrates skin leaving it soft, bright and deeply nourished.

I took Target's tip and cleansed my face with the Urban Skin Rx Cleansing Bar from the Recline & Unwind box so that the mask could better penetrate my skin. It feels like only a tiny amount of product in the packette but it was more than enough to cover my face. The mud mask has a pleasant smell and didn’t take long to start drying. The recommendation is to leave the mask on for 10 minutes but I washed it off a little sooner because I wasn’t sure if the tingling feeling was a good or bad thing. I had plans to go out that evening and didn’t want to risk any negative reaction. My skin felt fine and slightly softer after but not visibly different in any way.

Eden Body Works Coconut Shea Hand Cream, FULL SIZE! – Retail Value $4.99

This coconut-scented hand cream is made of coconut oil, shea butter, and vitamin E and does not contain any irritating dyes, mineral oils or parabens. Apply this soothing hand cream to rough and dry hands to leave them soft, smooth and supple.

This hand cream is awesome! The coconut scent is fresh, clean and subtle which I really like. The cream is much thicker than I expected. I took a bit of effort to get it all rubbed in but it left my skin looking visibly more hydrated with just a hint of shine. This is perfect for the dry winter months to combat ashy hands and elbows.

Carol’s Daughter Almond Cookie Bar Soap, FULL SIZE! – Retail Value $2.97

This mild bar soap is made with almond oil and oatmeal to soothe, cleanse, gently exfoliate and soften skin. Gently massage your body with the bar to leave skin silky-smooth.

This bar soap smells amazing! The other thing I noticed right off is how big it is. It’s bigger than a standard size bar of soap and almost double the size of the African black soap including in the Recline & Unwind box. The soap lathers easily and a little goes a long way. The lather is thick, feels luxurious and left my skin feeling so soft. I’m a fan!

The Lip Bar Metallic Lipstick in Cosmo, FULL SIZE! – Retail Value $12.00

This multi-use lipstick is made with nourishing oils and shea butter. It can also be used as a highlighter or eyeshadow and has a rich hue.

I’ve heard such great things about this brand and was super excited to try this lipstick. I love the unique packaging and thought this red might go great with my skin tone. Unfortunately, it's not the red for me. But, there is still lots to love! It went on smooth and felt really moisturizing, the color is deeply pigmented and it has just the right about of shine. I'll try this brand again in another shade that better compliments my skin.

The Verdict: The products in this box are great! With this being a Black History Month exclusive box, I love that the box includes clean products from black beauty brands. The Carol's Daughter Almond Cookie Bar soap and Eden Body Works hand cream are my favorites. They are contenders to be a permanent part of my beauty regimen! The lipstick isn't the right color for me but the quality is impressive. I can't make a fair judgment on the mud mask because I didn't leave it on for the full time but it did smell great.

This box cost $14.99 and has a total retail value of $22.95. That is about a 35% savings and fair value on its own but not a good value compared to other Target Beauty Boxes. Most Target Beauty Boxes cost $7 but I have seen other exclusive Target beauty boxes sold for $14.99. For the exclusive boxes, I expect to receive mostly full-size and high-quality items and I expect the box to be a great value. All the products included in this box are full-size and high-quality. Adding an additional 1 or 2 products would have increased the overall value of this box.

To Wrap Up:

Can I get this box if I sign up today?: Yes, as of publication, this box is still available!

Value Breakdown: At $14.99 for this box, here’s what you are paying approximately per item:

  • SheaMoisture Coconut & Hibiscus Mud Mask Packette - $1.93
  • Eden Body Works Coconut Shea Hand Cream – $3.26
  • Carol’s Daughter Almond Cookie Bar Soap – $1.94
  • The Lip Bar Metallic Lipstick in Cosmo – $7.84

I didn’t see any of the boxes in my local Target when I was there last week but it seemed like they were restocking since one side of an aisle was completely empty. Maybe they are on the shelves now or either sold out.

Or they may be making room for the regular February box.

I wish Target would price these special boxes closer to $10 but I appreciate the fact they are experimenting with more boxes at all. I would especially love to see a natural beauty type box…my local Target beauty section seems to get better every year and I’ve noticed a huge influx of natural beauty brands, some I’ve not tried or heard of before.

I think they should price them lower or include all full-size products or more items.

When I was in my local Target the boxes were on a clearance end cap for $10. Just fyi for anyone interested, as the online price is still $15.

Did you not have the extreme burning sensation from the mud mask?? I had one of those packets that my sister had given me, and that stuff BUUUUURNS! My eyes were watering, that’s how much it burned. I googled, and it seems like it was a pretty common thing for this mask. I actually enjoyed the results (didn’t turn my skin red or anything) and tried to find the full size in store the other day, but no luck, and I’m not spending $2.50 on a single use packet.

Also, I keep seeing the title of the box and start singing the theme song for the Fresh Prince of BelAir…

For me, it was a strong tingling feeling not quite burning but it did worry me enough to wipe off the mask early. It didn’t hurt but I definitely didn’t want to risk a bad reaction.

Ok I had the burning sensation the first time I used the Shea Moisture mask and almost freaked out…LOL. It didn’t bother my skin and I felt comfortable enough to use it a second time and the burning feeling was less noticeable. Good to know that it’s a common thing with it. I actually have a jar of it that I received in a sub box..can’t remember which one.
I’d like to try the Carol’s Daughter soap and the hand cream. The lipstick is a little too red for me.

I like this box but not the price. If this goes on sale, I’ll buy it then.

I’d definitely grab this box on sale!

Thanks for the review.

Worst box ever…

Shatae

I don’t think it was so bad but the value wasn’t where I liked it to be.

Enid

I like this box. Maybe they’ll drop price later.

Shatae

If they do, I’d definitely grab it! I really enjoyed the products.

There doesn’t seem to be the usual $3 Target coupon in this box or in the other Black History Month Beauty Box. Is that because these are specialty boxes, or is Target doing away with the $3 Target coupon?

Either way, excellent review, thank you!

Reply ButtonReply

Lore

The $3 coupon is in the regular February box. The specialty boxes would be a better value if the coupon was included. I’ll buy only if the price drops.

Reply ButtonReply

Shatae

We’ll see soon since the regular February box was released yesterday.

Reply ButtonReply

Shatae

I’m not sure but none of the black history boxes had the $3 coupon.

I would have loved this box if it was not full of nut oils. Otherwise, it looks nice for those who dont have to worry about allergies.

Shatae

My daughter has but allergies too. The struggle is real!
