Sensory TheraPlay Box February 2019 Review

Each box includes a motivational quote card which I always think is such a nice little bit of encouragement! They also included a booklet listing all of the items, their value and a brief description of them along with pictures. On the back, they include a nice thank you and their contact information.

Usborne Animal Doodle Wipe-Clean Cards - MSRP $9.99, Listed Value $12.95 (found here for $15.95)

I was so excited to receive this set of doodle cards! My kids and I love activities like this and the fact that they wipe clean means that there are endless hours of fun to be had. The cards are the perfect size for little hands, about twice the size of a standard deck of cards and they feature various activities such as completing a shape, adding details to an object, or even more creative cards that ask you to add your own shapes and designs to them. There are so many different skills that can be addressed through these cards in addition to visual and fine motor skills.

The cards are bright and colorful and each card is double-sided so that's over 100 different activities in total. They suggested punching a hole in the cards and storing them in a binder, but I have a friend who sells Usborne and she had given us  just a few cards on a single ring to take on the go and that has been such a nice activity to have stashed in my purse for moments when I need a little something to occupy the kids. I'm excited that now I will have a full set that I can swap out or even make several sets for each of the kids! My daughter had a lot of fun playing with them this morning and I know this will be something she comes back to again and again.

Yogibo Squeezibo Stress Mates - Retail Value $8

This cute little guy is actually a super stiff gel-like stress ball that is covered in a nice soft fabric on the outside. It sits flat and is a unique alternative to traditional stress balls. I like that it is just a bit firmer and doesn't really change shape like a traditional foam stress ball since it is filled with a rubber material. Plus, it's super cute!

Here is a closeup of his adorable fox face. He will make a nice addition to any desktop or shelf and come in handy when you're feeling anxious!

Play Visions Tumble Wonder Fidget Stick - Retail Value $9.65

I had to look this item up online to understand exactly how it works because I couldn't quite figure out how to use it! Once I watched the video, I still had a little trouble using it correctly, but my husband easily picked it up once he saw how it should work. This is definitely a great fidget toy for those who need to keep their hands moving and it can be a little challenging to get it to tumble. They also recommend tossing it back and forth between your hands to develop visual motor skills and bilateral coordination, both of which I think this would be great for!

You can see that my husband had no trouble getting it to move here.

True Balance Mini - Listed Value $14.99 (found here for $14.95)

This is one of those silly discoveries from this box that is able to challenge and stimulate the whole family. It's always fun for us to receive a toy like this that challenges us in a fun way. You start with all of the disks out and then you have to move your wrist to try to get them all back in a line. The disks rotate as you move it, which creates the challenge since their moves are incredibly unpredictable. This toy was invented to help those recovering from brain injuries, but now it can help anyone working on hand-eye coordination, concentration, fine motor, or even their balance skills.

Hyper-Flex Stretchy Mice and Cheese - Listed Value $9.99 (found here for $8.07)

This is a toy that is similar to the banana slugs we received last month. This block of cheese with two little mice is equally gross but very fun for developing fine motor skills as you try to wedge the little mice in and out of the various holes. My son loved this when he saw it and my daughter was slightly creeped out by the wiggling tails of these little mice. The texture of jiggly, soft rubber makes it a different tactile sensation and the block of cheese can easily be squeezed to produce some fun sounds due to all the holes or simply as a stress relief. This little rubber block of cheese easily collects dirt, but it says that washing it with soap and water and adding a bit of talcum powder will restore it to its original condition.

Screw-Its Pencil Toppers - Listed Value $4.99 (found here for $1.99 + $6.99 shipping)

These little pencil toppers are the perfect quiet fidget toy for a classroom! The pieces wind up and down and spin and feature nice, bright neon colors. They aren't particularly sturdy so I wouldn't recommend them for a child who mouths things, but they are great for someone who just needs a minor fidget toy to help them focus.

Verdict: This month was a great Sensory TheraPlay Box full of a variety of different toys to aid in developing fine motor skills or anxiety management. There were so many unique items that really appeal to kids and I am particularly happy with the Animal Doodle cards because they provided the whole family with some fun as we worked on them together. It was a great way to develop the fine motor skills of my kids while also working on their visual and problem-solving skills. While this box is especially geared towards those with anxiety and sensory-processing issues, I still think this is a box that pretty much anyone will enjoy! This month the total value of our box came to about $57.61 which is just over the $47.34 cost of the box ($39.95 plus $7.39 shipping). While that isn't much over the cost of the box, the curation of such unique items holds a lot of value for me!

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!
