SlutBox by Amber Rose February 2019 Review

SlutBox usually comes with a zine every month but this time they've "gone green" and simply provided a small card with a few of the products and a web address to view the zine digitally online. I think this is a great idea and hope to it more in the future.

Empire Labs Clone-A-Willy Toy Cleaner, trial size - Listed Retail Value $5.95

Now that we all finally got that adult toy in December's box, here's some cleaner to help you keep it in tip-top shape. It's a MUST to clean your toys before and after each use to ensure there are no dirty things going into your sensitive areas. This bottle may not last a long time, but its small size will travel well and keep your vibes tidy.

Exclusive SlutBox "Yes MUVA" Handcuffs - Listed Retail Value $19.99

Whoa boy. This is actually the type of item I expect to see in SlutBox. Adult toys, sexy stuff, and makeup. It was only a matter of time before some handcuffs made it into the box. These, however, are shedding EVERYWHERE. The red faux fur is just coming off and is definitely what stuffed animals were made of in the 80s. They cover some low-grade metal handcuffs (as I assume all sexy handcuffs are) that are connected by some links of chain and come with a set of keys. There's also a pretty apparent safety latch that allows you to escape even without the keys which is reassuring. I've never owned a pair of handcuffs so I'm not sure what kind of quality to look for. These will certainly keep your playmate restrained but perhaps think about covering them in some less sheddy material. The fur also doesn't really cover all of the metal so if you're planning to have your partner a while, it may be a little uncomfortable. Good item, not so great execution though.

Custom MUVA OG Lashes - Listed Retail Value $11.00

Lashes are one of my least favorite items to get in a box, but I guess they make sense here. These were made exclusively for SlutBox but others can be found on their website. There's not a ton of info on these except that they are made of mink which, I'm not going to lie, freaks me out. The digital zine says they are made with cruelty-free mink but the whole thing seems weird to me, even as a meat-eating leather-wearer. What are most lashes even made of? Human hair? Synthetic material? I guess I'd rather have lashes be either one of those before they come directly from an animal. Not trying to start any debates here, as I know there are animal products in so many things, but... this just makes me uneasy for some reason. I'm not a fake-lash wearing gal anyhow, so I'll be passing these along.

Pjur Love Original Personal Lubricant, 1.02 oz. - Retail Value $13.99

Wow, $13.99 for this small bottle? Okay. This silicone-based lubricant is seriously slippery and the small size is kinda meh to get in a box like this, but I suppose it will travel easily. I don't know much about this brand, but it's made in Germany and is free of fragrance, parabens, and has a completely neutral smell and taste. With all the tiny lubes I've gotten from SlutBox over time, I could really be hiding these babies all over the house.

Appeal Cosmetics Bronze Pigment, 0.14 oz. - Retail Value $21.00

Wow- this "pigment" is aptly named! The bronze color I received is really bold and has a wonderful pigment. It goes on really easily and is packed with tons of sparkle. I kind of wish I had gotten any other color than this one, but it is really pretty. It seems like it can be used a variety of ways like eye shadow, or highlighter/bronzer. I'd probably end up using it on my eyes more than anywhere else. Even though it's a powder, it's superfine so it has almost a creamy feel to it.

Sustain Natural Ultra Thin Lubricated Latex Condoms, 3 pack - Retail Value $4.99 (found here for $3.99)

Cool- always great to see condoms in this box. I expect them and will always welcome them. It's actually a great way to try out all the different brands out there. This 3 pack comes from Sustain Natural and 10% of the profits support women's health organizations. They make several different kinds (as well as other women's health products like menstrual cups and tampons) but this box is the ultra-thin variety. I'll have to get back to you on how they feel...

Skin Chemists Youth Defense Rose Quartz Lip Plump, 0.27 fl oz. – Retail Value $24.00

I got this same lip plump back in July in my SlutBox. This time they've sent it as a mystery "past fave". I hate to sound rude but every time a sub box says they're sending a "fave" I roll my eyes a bit because they must just have an overstock of these, right? Not a huge fan of getting repeat items in a box that is under a year old, ya know? It's happened a few times already with this one. Ah well. I actually don't mind this product since it has peppermint oil for the minty plumping tingle that I like, but it is a gloss which my hair just gets stuck too when I wear it.

Verdict: This month was one of SlutBox's worst, in my opinion. As soon as I picked up the box, it felt light, and once I saw what was inside I was a little shocked. Trial size items that feel like freebies, some cheap cuffs with shedding fur, mink lashes I will never wear, and a lip plumper I've received before. The condoms and the bronze pigment were the best items in the box for me and don't really feel worth the $29.99 price tag of the box. Added up, the products totaled $100.92 but I feel like the prices are kind of inflated.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? It's a little unclear, but it seems like you'd get March as your first month.

From SlutBox:

This is why I left slutbox and went to Bawdy Bookworms. Bawdy does what slutbox should be doing. Huge pass for me, handcuffs and lube..seriously? It’s missing the usual pasties. Slutbox is a joke. Sad, they had so much potential. I’ll stick with bawdy I’m much happier there.

This doesn’t feel like a sub box as much as a monthly PR package to get Amber Rose talked about and one that some people are even willing to pay for. as for the free boxes they send to reviewers it seems like a hella cheap way to get her name out with goodwill attached even if she doesn’t deserve it since she coopted someone’s movement to profit off of otherwise they would have to pay thousands for an influencer to mention her name in passing or post her pic on instagram etc…

I think in one of your past reviews you said…..another month…another lube…

Dootsie Bug

So I jumped on it because the last two months have actually really impressed me. The toy came in December and the CBD gummies came last month. YEAHHHHHH big mistake.

I subscribed with the MUVAROSE code and I got another one of the lip products that could’ve been included in this box, a piece of rose quartz, a pair of pasties and the KocoStar lip mask. Even with that additional “$75 value” (how!?) it just doesn’t feel like a very nice box for the price. Cancelling.

If what I wanted was make-up I would subscribe to one of the hundreds of makeup choices. So disappointed. Glad I cancelled.

No pasties? :O

So you are paying $24 for what is basically a lip gloss. Not sure what makes it a plump. It seems like the more descriptions a company adds to a products name the more the company charges for the product.

I’m shocked. Just totally shocked at the low quality tiny amount of stuff in the box. I guess the worst thing is that this box could be awesome because of a great concept, it it’s so poorly executed… and somehow getting worse. Does anyone think for one second Amber Rose has any of this low rent crap in her slut drawer? Cuz I don’t.

How about the fact they have a silicone based lube and condoms? Why not condoms and a water based lube? Or silicone based lube and a toy? Yeah this just seems like free promo samples they received. No curation. Wow. Just wow, it’s like they’re not even trying!

Be careful when using silicone based lube with sex toys made of silicone or softer rubber-type materials. The silicone molecules can react badly to each other and cause your toy to degrade, making it unhygienic to use. You need to use water based lube with these toys. Silicone is fine to use with glass or hard plastic toys. Silicone lube is also completely safe to use with condoms.

This was my first box by them and I’ve cancelled. BTW, the handcuffs are especially cheap and flimsy, more so than most you would see in a sex shop. I love how this was the first pair you’ve had and you still knew they were cheap. lol. Unfortunately, I was charged for a second box before receiving the first due to the timing of my sign-up so I’ll still be getting next months box and at full price this time. Uggh. Great review though!
